The King of Theifs -- Volume 1

Postby Kenchii » Wed Jul 30, 2003 5:23 pm

Just got done on reading this enjoyable manga. Its from Tokyopop. It has adventure action & comedy. It is very good. Some fair warning. Jing, the pirate tends to stick the middle finger often. Which I thought was not good (exspecially it was rated 7+).Otherwise its good.

The title Tokyopop uses for the manga is The King of Bandits Jing. I looked in it and it looked pretty good, but I didn't know about the middle finger thing. That think about Kir changing into a gun sounds pretty cool. I hope the middle finger in Japan doesn't mean the same thing it does in the US.

The middle finger DOES mean the same thing ^^;; It looks interesting anyway, I love clean inking ala Toriyama (and I can slightly spot Toriyama influences in the style). Hmm.... wonder if I should get it...

I have the first vol. of that manga and I admit the middle finger thing did throw me off when I was reading it, cause they had it rated for like young children. I wonder how they rate those things anyway. ^^; I liked the art though and for some reason the backgrounds and stuff reminded me of the Nightmare Before Christmas. Don't ask me why. I guess I'm just weird like that. lol I'm interested in the anime for this series as well. I know the first dvd has been released. I've been thinking of getting it, but I'm still debating

Pet Peeve #248 is people who use their middle finger to point at things.

There's a Ranma 1/2 episode where the Casino King gives Ranma the birdie (the dub tries to gloss it over by saying, "I've got one thing to say to you!" -- nice try anyway [I forget what the sub says]).

I thought about picking up the manga--I like the art style--but I haven't done so yet. I have seen one episode of the anime, and I enjoyed it. I'm planning on renting the anime as they continue to release it in the US.

I saw an episode of the Anime (included in NewType USA)... I don't know what the Manga is like, but Kir was a bit of a horny-toad in the Anime... he even complains when called off to battle that he was "just about to get some".... but beyond that I loved the Anime.

Will have to look for the Manga around here (maybe Borders has it)... I'm just about done with Angelic Layer (I've been keeping it in my work truck for when I go out to lunch or if I'm stuck waiting on someone/something).

I read some of the first volume in store and I loved what I read of it. I didn't see that middle finger thing when I read or skimmed through it, but I'll take your word for it being in there. I would rather it not be in there, but I doubt that it's in there as often as you make in sound. Even if it is, I still wouldn't mind reading more of Jing because of the good stuff in it. This is one fun ride.

BTW, I have never seen this manga or anime listed as King of Thiefs (thiefs is a misspelling of Thieves, BTW). It was either Bandit King Jing, Jing: King of Bandits, The King of Bandits Jing, King of Bandits Jing, or Jing: The King of Bandits, but never King of Thieves.

From what I read, I found this to be an enjoyable manga. Kir is a bit of a perv, but his attitude and hijinks lead to some funny, non perverted humor. Kir is there for humor and to be used as a weapon, not to be a role model. He reminds me a bit of Brock in Pokemon. I also like the silly humor in this from what I read. (BTW, I don't like perverted humor, so don't get the wrong idea)

If it weren't for the fact that I'm already collecting other manga series and have a severe shortage of Shojo, I would probably be buying a volume of Jing, but since I plan to get other stuff, no Jing manga for me. I do plan to rent the first volume of the anime from Netflix, though.

On second thought, I might get Jing after all since it's only seven volumes. Volume 2 of Jing is supposed to come out on August 5th, but the borders near me got it early. I didn't look in volume 2, though.

Went looking, saw Vol. 1 today at Suncoast Video and Walden's books.... passed it up this time for One Piece vol 1. Maybe next week... might have to read through it a little closer.

Whasup everybody!
I finally get to post something after like 2 months. :)
The thing is I just moved to FL, so we're still in search for a new computer.
What does this have to do with the Jingster?... :eyebrow:

Anyway, I've seen the manga and it looks pretty cool! I like the cranky/lazy/...friendly bird sidekick, specially since Jing uses him as a gun!
I think that the guy who draws Yu-Gi-Oh also does Jing, as you can tell.

-Gotta get that manga!

the japanese has a different sense of morality, like the middle finger thing. :eyebrow: the japanese language doesn't (technically) have any bad language they just pick up some "things" in western culture which they think its cool for every body.

I picked up the first volume. Read it all except for the last story... got distracted by a Christmas present of Trigun manga...

I have not seen the Jing anime... I want to now... the manga... It's just fun!!!
I picked it up because I saw a little Tokyopop preview of it... and I liked the art style. It's a cartoony art style, but... a cartoony kind of style that I actually like. Just... very fun style.

I like Kir! Yes... "Brock as a bird" is a great description of him! Except he might be even a little more pervy... I love him, though... so funny... and the Kir Royale rocks. (Knew someone who watched the anime and was telling me how the Kir Royale looked like an Angel Arm... judging from the manga, it has a VAGUE resemblance... I like how Kir's tail kind of fuzes with Jing's arm and looks like... vertebrae).

One aspect of it that... I really, really like... and just because I'm odd... ALL THE SKELETAL CREATURES!!!! I love... bones. Go to my main website and you can see my bone art. I like... animal bones, animal skeletons... I found those skeletal creatures just fun! You know, like the fish that Rose' catches in the second part of the first volume of manga who quips that he's not good to eat but is high in calcium!

I saw Jing definitely flip someone off once... and not-so-sure on a second time... When he was riding the dragon up to the tower in the City of Theives, if you look carefully, you can see him flipping off Cognac. There's also a page-spread where he is in the ghost ship casino where he's just standing in a cool pose and his hand is out.. and it looks like he's flipping the reader off, but I'm not so sure... could also be that he just has his fingers in an odd position and it's not meant to be an actual flip off.

But.. yeah... I wanna get the second volume of manga... other mangas.. and see the anime now. I like the fantasy-feel (as I like fantasy), and it's just.. fun.

Jing 5 is out in Feb. Will my bookstores get it before March? Probably not, but theoretically, it comes out in Feb.

I love that manga!

Oh, and as a heads up, there is a shower scene near the beginning of Jing 3
The Forsworn War of 34

I have the first four Jing vol! it's awsome, yeah that certain casino piccy (vol1) was sorta....o.O;; if you know what I mean. It has some very random stuff in it, and the drawings remind of Dr. Seuss but that's okay cause I like it like that! :hits_self
