I saw it. I've never read the manga or seen the anime before...it looks pretty interesting. And it's pretty good...considering it's FoxBox. It's too bad someone else didn't dub it...

It definately makes me want to know more about the series.

It was alright. I don't know if they skipped the origin on purpose or if it was that way in the japanese version. The story on this episode is not the first one in the manga.
The dub was not as horrible as I thought. It may very well grow on me in time.

However, (oh horror of horrors.) The Theme song was BAAAAAAAD. I mean, whoah.

Yeah, the theme song was pretty bad. xD Agggh, what is Fox Box doing to our shows??? T_T

Some of the voice acting really grated on my nerves, too. Luffy's wasn't too bad, though.

Man, that opening was terrible. All of the other 4kids openings have usually been better than THAT. And, the weird thing about that is that there was a 4kids preview video on a website that had a dubbed version of the first Japanese opening, leading many people to think that 4kids was keeping the original.

Anyway, according to an edit list:
the violence was toned down,
they took out Luffy hitting Coby,
shortened Nami kicking that one guy in the groin,
changed the "barrel of rum" to a "barrel of water,"
changed Zoro to Zolo,
changed the Marines to the Navy,
changed Devil Fruit to Cursed Fruit,
changed Pistol to Blast in Luffy's move,
and altered a little bit of the dialouge.

Those are the major changes. I seriously wonder what they will do when the serious becomes more violent. I'm hoping Funimation will sub-license the series for uncut DVDs.

It was alright. I don't know if they skipped the origin on purpose or if it was that way in the japanese version.

That was how it was in the original anime as well. Luffy's origin isn't until after Zoro joins.

But man, I can't stand that opening. Especially compared to the original one.

yeah I was like... what is this? :shake: when the theme song came on. I also don't like luffy's voice I think it makes him sound younger than he should. Anyway it really wasn't as bad as I thought, in the beginning I was expecting this deep low narrator voice, maybe kinda errie,... you know the one who explains the orgin of one piece before the song... but instead it was like this really happy guy. anyway the dubbing wasn't as bad as I thought, but I do really hope someone will lincense it and they will make some un-cut episodes.

Gah, missed it. I was recording it, but my sister deleted it because she thought I was watching it. :bang: Do you think the episode will be repeated anytime in the near future?

Every board that I visited today, they said that the theme song was one of the worst. What made it so bad?

The terrifying moldy bread incident! In elementary school, Yomi's leftover bread started rotting inside her desk! you can't imagine what happened! Not only that, but the mold had a will of its own, it was terrible! Barricading ourselves in the science prep room, we used spirit lamps and engaged in combat! Then I realized it!! If we only had the bottle of mildew remover from the bathroom, we could destroy them!!

F-Zero was on. Tokyo Mew Mew/Mew Mew Power is strangely absent from the lineup, but I imagine that they will replace Wink Club with it once WC finishes up its season or whatever.

I don't know about the near future, but after they show so many episodes they will start showing reruns.

It was a rap that had terrible lyrics, was hard to understand, and it didn't even fit the show. All four of the Japanese openings (We Are, Believe, Hikari E, and Bon Voyage) are light years better than that.

The dub openings of Shaman King, Pokemon(all half-dozen of them), and even Yu-gi-oh are all better than the dub opening of One Piece.

From what I hear...they seem to have ruined it....I've seen ALL of the original Japanese openings and endings. I liked all of them. And the narrator's voice in the Japanese version was VERY deep and eerie.....I really dislike altered versions....>.<;;;; Ewwwww....

One Piece was doomed from the second it was nabed for airing in a Saturday MORNING block rather than something in the afternoon or evening. And I agree about Luffy's voice, the guy sounds like he's 8.

Still, I've never been very impressed with One Piece even in it's manga form, so my expectations for the show were pleasantly low.

My friend and I were at my house and we caught th elast 5 minutes of it. We were like

"what the crap...." and akward silence and some girlish giggling at how wierd Luffy's voice was.

I have a friend who really loves the One Piece manga and well...he saw it on FoxBox. I don't think he's recovered yet.

XD I really, really don't like what they do to anime when it's put in Saturday Morning. Well, except for maybe Digimon, although there was some weird translation things in that one as well.

The anime itself was pretty good, but the voices are horrible.

4Kids: "Let's give this character a southern accent!"

Me: "Why?"

4Kids: "Because! So... shut up!"

Me: ... :bang:

I hate 4Kids.

I thought the theme was outrageously funny. But, then again, I think cell phone commercials are funny.
Yeah, I'm that opinionated.

So otaku, but not...
