Naruto getting liscensed? (someone please maybe sticky this)

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Thu Aug 26, 2004 5:19 pm

supposedly taken from narutofan.com

the following statement is a HOAX, it is NOT true. In case for anyone who happened to read this somewhere.

4Kids Entertainment has issued a brief press release today that they have finally won the license to Naruto after over a year of negotiations. The formal announcement of the license will be made at Otakon next week.

4Kids has announced that due to popular fan outcry regarding the planned edits to Tokyo Mew Mew, they will not be following through with plans to edit Naruto so that it was set in a secret valley in the southern United States at the turn of the century. However, to improve accessibility to younger fans, the show will be edited for content and some of the more difficult character names will be changed. While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, Larry McConnell (PR Representative for 4Kids) has given AnimeNewsNetwork the exclusive details that Naruto will be called Nathan and Sasuke will be named Sean.

It is expected that Naruto will begin airing on the Toonami block on Cartoon Network early next Summer. There are no definite plans to release it on DVD in the near future.

major hoax... 3 reasons

1. Nathan and Sean were names peope would joke about if it WERE dubbed, example: me and my friend

2. If it were publically announced at otakon, a lot of people would be and be booing and hissing like crazy, and it would spread all over. AND i would of heard about it. I went to Otakon

3. Someone knew how much we didn't want 4kids to liscense it, so obviously the person uses 4kids to make people angry

I believe that is 100% bogus, and quite obviously a joke. Sorry, I don't think this thread is important enough to all members of this forum to sticky it.

No announcement has been made on any of the major anime news in regard to this, take it as false.

Speaking of Naruto and a possible licensing, are they allowed to license programs that are still airing on Japanese television? I am not too familiar with the legalities in this area. Any insight is appreciated! :thumb:

Yes, they can. Viz has been distributing Inu Yasha here in the U.S. for over a year and it is just now completing in Japan.

i've read that before (it was posted earlier by someone I forget though).

Quite funny however it would be a nightmare if it did come true.

No, the names will be switched up much more diabolically - Naruto will be called Neji, Sasuke will be called Sarutobi, Sakura will be called Gai, Kakashi will be called Hinata...

And what's worse is the product placements - they've already settled on "cheetos-no-jutsu" for the transformation (henge), and "pepsi-no-jutsu" in place of bunshin no jutsu, and are looking at "pepsi one-no-jutsu" for kage bunshin no jutsu...

er, wait, that's much too silly.

This was an old prank played by one of the big Naruto fansites.

I laughed, but that's just me.
