I've never seen Excel Saga-- mostly because I was told that ending was so bizarre that your brain would suffer melt down. Plus, if I'm not confusing it with another series, a couple of the last episodes are super fanservicey.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I don't like it. the humor just wasn't that funny to me. plus, too many sex jokes and anime in-jokes that only the most hardcore of hardcore Japanese otaku would get. and too much stuff that just wasn't funny. more problems: on ADV's dvds, you have to pause the DVD to read the little culture notes that explain the jokes. they usually kill the joke.

It's one of those shows that you have to see with a crowd, or at least 5 friends. The first couple episodes were hilarious, but then went down from there. But I can't speak for more than half the show, as I've only seen up to the 13th episode.

I'm a pretty big fan of the stranger shows and I definitely like the comedies more than anything else, but I found Excel Saga lacking a bit. The comedic timing was off and I felt that the action and comedy was too forced, didn't feel natural. I understand there' nothing natural about the insanity of Excel, but it should feel like the characters themselves are comfortable in their own roles.

Anyway, as usual, I'm probably over analyzing, so take it for what it's worth.

Yes... Yes you are... Um, yeah. I loved the show. It is almost all referencial humor, so it requires you know the things it is refferencing. For instance, in episode 17, they do an incredibly hillarious Sailormoon parody, but it's only really funny if you watch it in Japanese and if you've seen Sailormoon in Japanese... The seiyuu for Excel is the same seiyuu as Usagi/Sailormoon. Also, episode 4 made fun of dating sims... That was another great episode.

Most of the show up to ep 15 or so is cleaner than people think, but 16, 18, and after that gets pretty sexual... Oh, and episode 26 is beyond fanservice, it's violently offensive and pretty disturbing. Fanservice is one thing (there's a good deal of visual suggestiveness and such throughout the series) but this wasn't a service to any fans I know, unless they are really screwed up in the head... Avoid the last ep at all costs...

The latter portion of the series aside, the beginning is incredibly funny and I may buy individual DVDs of this show up to ep 17.

IIRC, Ep 26 is more of a OVA. And the story ends in ep 25, so no need to watch 26.

If I remember from Newtype's review (poor review guy) the last ep was called "Going Too Far".
Think happy thoughts.

I don't think Excel Saga should be compared to FLCL. At least there's meaning to the madness in FLCL. Think of Excel Saga as the "Naked Gun" of anime.

I have all of Excel Saga. I thought most of it was very hilarious, and I've seen a lot of different anime series so I was able to get a lot of the jokes. I was also really surprised by the ending, I think they did a good job of pulling a plot out of thing air to fill out those last few episodes. Episode 26 was pretty freaky, but it still had a few hilarious moments. The opening sequence of it rocked. "Excel, the musical!" LOL!

I loved it. I thought it was very funny. Ep 26 is like the rest of the anime (being a spoof of something) yet it was a spoof of hentai...I would buy the series but I don't want episode 26. Aside from that I thought it was awesome ^_^ \/

At first I was happy because I was getting the jokes. But then I remembered how much bad anime I had to sit through to get all of the references and became morbidly depressed.

Its not htat most jokes in excel saga are not funny because most are.

I rufuse to wtch the series are pick up the books.
Story: I bought the first Manga and was reading it it wastnt to bad till I hit the christmas chapter. Their was a whole page were they called Jesus a fake and said he was a theif and a lot of other sacralegious things I mean they wrote very bad things in their that really offended my beliefs.

So I pledged that would never read the manga nor watch the show ever and I got rid of the book.
