The Death of an Era?

Is it just me or has the genre of anime containing Pokemon, Digimon, and Yu-gi-oh lost popularity? I mean, it's still there, but it isn't in your face like a few years ago, where everywhere you turned there was a Pokemon this or a Digimon that... I personally never understood the appeal of these things... They had no plot! (Start episode. Fight bad guy with collection of fighters. "Surprise" plot twist and lots of big talk. Continued next show) Anyway... Tell me if you think this genre is dead and if you ever cared for it in the first place...

Yes it's a good thing in my opnion that it's dying. I don't know if after school programming could of taken another pseudo anime monster derivative.

I definitely think it's dying; all fads do. I liked most of those shows at one point or another, but I far preferred the original Japanese versions due to bad cutting and dubbing jobs. Some of the original versions actually did have some plot. ^__^

I'm glad it's dying.

But if it was reborn for an older audience, with an actual oh-my-gosh plot, it would be cool.

I wrote a fanfic for Pokemon with suicide in it... And people using their pokemon to kill people and do something other than just "get the most powerfull pokemon." Never finished it, but that would be interesting... That's sorta how I see one of the Plot threads in Final Fantasy X, to be honest. I choose you, FyreDawg, er, Ifrit!

Pokemon was a repetitive but a fun show to watch sometimes....

"Don't worry, Brock, you'll find many other girls to reject you!" -Ash

Digimon had a well written plot.

Yu-Gi-Oh was an original take on the fad.

Duel Masters is most likely going to be a shameful ripoff of all of them.

Duel Masters is junk.

The only redeeming part of Pokemon is Team Rocket. They are so funny they rock.

Yu-Gi-Oh! is so lame. Playing a TCG to save the world...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight....

Digimon was better. I wish I had seen it more. MagnaAngemon pwnz j00.

Yah, it's definately dying fast. Digimon is dead, Pokemon almost is, and Yugioh is getting there.

Pokemon: This show wasn't too bad when I was 9, but it's still total crap! Brock was the best character in that show. (so funny how he could never get to the ladies... sorta like Kir from Jing.)

Digimon: When this first came out, I thought it was SO cool. Then after the first season, I thought it was SO stupid.

Yu-Gi-Oh: I was actually hooked to this after it premiered, but I'm so glad I never bought any of those horrible cards... But Yu-Gi-Oh is just too horrible to last long. The movie looks like complete CRAP! I mean, that's not sufficient animation funding at all. It hardly looks a bit different from the TV series on the commercials! Just goes to show you that Yu-Gi-Oh isn't as popular as it used to be....

I still like Pokemon, still like Digimon, think Yu-Gi-Oh is useless..yeah......(did you hear there's going to be a live-action YGO movie? *runs*)

Digimon is neat. I love Seraphimon...and Magnadramon...

I don't think Pokemon is stupid. The third movie was awesome (I cried), the second movie was interesting, the first movie was kind of cheesy, the fourth movie was very cool, and the fifth movie was, again, awesome. The show is kind of repititive, but it's funny; the movies are what I like.

You mean the "tournament" type of anime involving collectibles? I don't think it's really dying. If it is, it's a pretty slow death. There's still Beyblade, Daigunder, and the others whose titles I can't remember (there was one that had something to do with little cars) and those I've completely forgotten. But then, I've really never cared for them very much. ^^;;

Well, I'd say that it probably is dying out, but you think about it, it's really incredible that they've stayed around so long.(I would point out that I think that Digimon was slightly different than Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh in that it wasn't a tournament style show. Digimon was more about saving the world than beating gym leaders. Just my two yen ;) ) I mean, theses shows really were formula shows: Ash tried to defeate combatant/capture pokement. Team rocket tries to prevent Ash from doing the above while trying to take off with Pikachu. Team rocket ends up flying into the sunset. Ash conquers all. (That last step doesn't occur on two part episodes. They saved it for the next half just to keep you guessing.)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Digimon is a lot different...better storyline, better characters, it's sort of a superhero-ish show.

Pokemon suffers from way to many filler episodes. The main reason was to drag the show out as long as they could till the next games were produced. This makes it into an unfortantely repetitive show, it's saving grace being Brock's hormones and Team Rocket's antics.

I remember watching the entire first season of Digimon, and thoroughly enjoying it. (As a matter of fact, this is one of the shows that got me INTO anime.) I stopped watching it shortly after the second season began, just didn't have the time.

I've only seen a couple of the US Yu Gi Oh episodes, and am interested in this series. I can't comment too much as I haven't yet seen the whole thing, but I'll probably check it out in the near future though. (I'm not watching the US version though.)

I kinda liked Pokemon at first. I was a Team Rocket fan XD but I quit watching it real quick because it was just too repetitive.

Digimon I've never seen.

Yu-gi-oh makes my brain hurt. o_< I mean...I seriously tried to watch this show and I just couldn't take it. plot = meeeh. dubbing = horrible horrible horrible. cards = mildly suspicious.

I hope the fad is dying out. ._. it's not one I was ever too fond of.

I used to watch pokemon every day ... then it got moved to wb and I couldn't anymore. Digimon's first season was fun though. And Yu-gi-oh is cool since it's anime that I can watch with my little siblings. The plot isn't too bad and the characters are funny. I suppose the fad might be dying out but if so it's going slowly because the my cousin and little brother along with all their friends in the just under ten age bracket have loads of pokemon, digimon, beyblade, and yu-gi-oh junk... I mean toys.

Lol my cousin used to be a Pokemon fanatic after it came out. Then he switched to Digimon then switched to Yu-gi-oh lol. He's finally realizing just how one dimensional and lame those shows got. Well I'm starting to really introduce him to good anime now.

YES! That show ROCKED! The theme song was AWESOME too! I can still remember it almost exactly.... That has to be the only decent monster collecting type of Japanese show out there. It was SO COOL! I used to religiously watch Monster Rancher, Cyber 6, and Sherlock Holmes In The 22nd Century. Ah, Cyber 6 was a great show....

Pokemon: Eh...iffy. I liked it at one point (didn't we all? LoL), but I guess it's just time for it to die. Nintendo's beating a dead horse.

Digimon: I'm actually still a raving fan, believe it or not. Give me Digimon season 1 or 2 and a Daisuke plushie and I'm a happy fangirl.

Yu-Gi-Oh: I enjoy this one as well. Er...the manga at least, so I won't have to sit through the hacked up WB version with the terrible dub voices. =X

The shows as a fad are dying, yes, but there are always fans that keep it alive.

I can remember all of the first 150 Pokemon very easily, but when Nintendo decided to introduce 150 MORE, they kind of lost me. I mean, some of the new designs are so uncreative. It's starting to look like they're just slapping different body parts together while making up names.

Probably 450 if I'm not mistaken. (Assuming they introduce 150 new creatures each set of games, multiply 150 X 3.)

I never quite understood it either. Actually, the first time I saw Pokemon I thought it was funny, but then after about ten or so episodes I didn't like it as much. Plus my mom didn't want us children to watch it.
