Yet Another Blow To Anime's Image

The real heart of CAA; discuss specific series, issues, and things related to anime here.

[quote="St. Peter"]First episode didn't seem too bad (compared to such lucious titles as Samurai X TrustBetrayal and Ninja Scroll). Firstly, I can't stand the main char's voice. Second, the ending theme is just a naked woman (strategically covered up, though.) Compared with Inkh's reviews, I don't think anything was edited, blood, urine and all]

I totally agree. Blue Gagger is something you couldn't pay me to ever, ever watch any more of again.

I actually watched the first 10 minutes of the first episode to see if it was edited or not. As far as I could tell, it wasn't edited from the descriptions I could see here, and I switched the channel about 10 minutes in out of disgust, only to catch the *ending* when I turned back when my clock read 1:00. (Note to self-reset and pound VCR clock)

Anyway, I'd say that the new weekday anime block is a total strikeout for the most part. Instead of adding more anime with engaging plots, deep characters, good technical art, or any of the above, we get FLCL (which I prefer to call Fanservice Lover's Crude Lowdown), Blue Gagger, and Lupin III. Yecch to all. . .

Hopefully there will be some better times ahead (like a less-edited version of Ruruoni Kenshin would be nice, hint, hint, or an edit of the first season of Irresponsible Captain Tylor-though I don't think they would dare to do that the way that series mocks the idea of military things and in our "war is good" culture that just can't be done without offending someone LOL)

I've been watching it. Most of the sex has been cut. There is fanservice from Marlene and an implied scene between Yuji and a Nomad girl.

Yeah, I'd heard that it was being almost paranoically edited by Funimation, even to the extent of removing a kiss scene that was relevant to the plot.

Meanwhile, FLCL got away with its third episode, sometimes referred to as a symbolic sex act, virtually uncut.

Ah well. . .attribute it to yet more inconsistent editing.

Gee MillyFan you really hate FLCL! Well anyway I saw like 5 minutes of Blue gender and I switched to Tech Tv I found Blue Gender Boring really Boring more Boring than A C-Span marathon. I felt like I was watching an american cartoon not anime. But I still don't get what your saying about the fan service in FLCL? I haven't seen any, Or mabye there are things you consider fanservice that I don't? Oh well thats all I got to say about Blue Gender. Yea The new Adult swim line up does kinda suck.

I've been watching Blue Gender. I don't really find it that horrible or offensive, and I don't feel that the sex or violence are gratuitous. However, I also agree with others that it just isn't that great. It's something to watch when there isn't anything else on, and that's about it.

Well, Shin Lupin III TV (the original Japanese name of the series CN shows) does have some great episodes, but the dubbers of it decided to do an update, and you get some pop culture referances, some cursing, and worse yet, added sexual innuendos. CN still has Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Big O 2 in their lineup. I actually liked FLCL, though I didn't like all of the content in it. Kikaider was great, but the 01 OVAs after it were terrible, especially after watching the anime TV series. I can understand how you don't like Blue Gender, but the mindless and harsh bashing of shows and stuff you dislike is pathetic (I'm not defending the show, but the childish making fun of shows is just lame). Not everyone shares your opinion.

The Toonami side has some good stuff, which is still great, despite some inconsistant and often poor edits. I do like Kenshin better unedited, though. I like Cyborg 009, but it gets bashed because of the art style, which is just lame. BTW, I still think this topic has gone on way too long and should be put to an end.

Wow. That's pretty harsh! Especially since I've been watching Blue Gender on CN and enjoying it, and I ALSO watch C-Span!! I guess it's the old poli-sci major in me that likes C-Span,b ut that doesn't explain BG! I must be just wierd! I had no idea so much was edited out, but that does explain alot of the choppiness. Bad writing explains the rest, though I still like it anyway. (not that it comes close to Cowboy Bebop or Trigun!)

well ive watched a bit,and aside from anything that might be ofensive, its just not very good.

i had a hard time caring about any of the chericters, the plot was pretty run of the mill, the mechs were nothng special, and the two main chericters just arent watcher friendly.

several time i wished the blue had just killed euge so i wouldnt have to hear him whine anymore.

also the blue arent a very consistant enemy....they win by sheer numbers..no wait they are almost unstopable..no wait mechs kill em fine..no wait were back to there being too many to stop.they kill people..no they eat people..no they kill and eat people and play softball on weekends.

normaly i dont nit pick about such things...but with not alot of story and chericter i hoped whould die to end my suffering....i had nothing else to do

all in all....cant say the show was very good

actually, I loved Blue Gender, didn't find anything wrong with it. I watched it for weeks, and the only thing slightly sexual was the two main characters, and it was interesting, not trashy.

If you watched the Cartoon Network version, you really should know that it was edited for content.

Well,i used to think about AJpan and its carttons, was "You reap what you sow,." produce a buncha sexuall anime people might be offended. stop producing sexuall anime and people will want to watch. (at least that's how it sould be.)

With that aside, personally, If a show has no good value, and is nothing but blood and sex, at least that's what im understanding about Blue Gendar, THere's seem sto be no way to justify watching it.

OF course I might be wrong about Blue Gender.

Hmm that might not have made a whole loota sense, but in my world it did, somehow....

Hmm... I think I'll grab Bleu Gender and all that garbage, then turn them into fleas. Harmless little fleas. Then I'll put them in a box. Then I'll put that box in another box, then I'll mail that box to myself, and when it arrives I'LL SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER! Muahahahaha! Brilliant! Yes, I am a big fan of The Emperor's New Groove. IMO, a very good movie.
