Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Anybody seen this yet? It looks very awesome, and from what I've heard, it's cleaner than the movie. And if you have seen is the special edition worth paying extra for and is there anything really objectional? Thanks.

My friend had pre-ordered this and got it from day one, and I would agree that it is excellent. As to the question of whether there is "anything really objectionable," I would answer no. About the three most objectionable things seen on the dvd was what could have been a bloody ankle (or were those curcuits, or both?) brief nudity of a robot seen in an inspection of a factory, and swear words.

That is what I thought, I merely did the list to show that there was little objectionable in the entire movie. Having listened to the soundtrack, I would also say paying for the special edition is well worth it just for that.

yah, I think I will buy the special edtion. I've been hearing that the soundtrack rocks and it seems to be just up my ally. I might pick it up by this weekend as of Bestbuy having a 20% off ALL ANIME TITLES until August 7th!!!

I have the special edition and boy is it great! That being said, this is a much cleaner (so far) series, and I am grateful for that. The graphics are amazing, especially the intro and on the mini tank tachikomas. The plotting seems well done and the 3D and hand drawn elements are intigrated together perfectly. The soundtrack is very good.

Very little blood so far (only the incident previously mentioned and a person who is injured in a terrorist incident). There are some exploding android heads in the first episode... but there isnt blood. Cursing wasn't noticable to me... but I wasnt watching for it , either, as I only watched the sub so far. Nudity is minimal, exccept for the aforementioned factory scene. Motoko's clothing is a bit skimpy.

There are some slightly disturbing deaths (car accident and a few androids commit "suicide") and some fairly emotional content (hatred, conflicting beliefs, depression). All funerals are Buddist or Shinto in nature that are shown. There is one incedent reguarding drinking and switching brains between people (male to female) but it isn't addressed in detail.

Final note... I want my own Tachikoma! They're hilarious.

Also something I noticed. I had first asked how someone could go about so many places in their underwear, and then the design of modern clothing of today as opposed to older clothing occured to me.

Umm...what exactly would you do with a sentient tank? I agree though on their hilarity, I liked the Tachikomatic Days at the end of each episode because they often served as an internal parody.

Spoiler: Wasn't the apparent "brain switching" merely a ruse to attempt to divert attention away from the fact that the fake Prime Minister was a switch of the brain from the man identified as dead so that he could succesfully smuggle the files out of the country due to his apparent identity?

Does this series get better after the first episode? I saw ep 1 last night and have t admit considering all the hype surrounding it's US release I was rather disappointed. Maybe I just don't like this sort of anime, because I didn't like the movie either. I thought it was "artsy" just for the sake of being so, with little meat to the plot beyond the special effects. I've heard the TV series is good so I'm hoping that it gets more interesting after ep 1. Also, since people have raved about Kano's score in this show, I'm assuming the music comes into play after episode 1 as well? The first one hardly had any background music to speak of, let alone a good score.

The next couple episodes have more of a plot to them, but my impression is that the series is really going to pick up around 5 or so. There are veiled references to incedents that the teams are investigating and that the other cases are taken because they may assist with the main cases that sect. 13 is investigating, but the next DVD isn't due for another month so until then this is pure speculation. The first three seemed to be establishing episodes, giving us data on the team and the dynamics within it, as well as the technology and tactics they use. The music does become more apparent after the first episode (though my 3 of my favorite songs are the opening, which is in all of the episodes and the two songs that are running in the opening battle sequence), though the stylings are most definately different from, say, Cowboy Bebop.

[spoiler=4th episode] There is evidence of a much stronger plot involving the hacker Laughing Man in this episode and since it is a cliffhanger it gives hope to the more plot based episodes. [/spoiler]

Correct, only one brief scene showing a nude and perhaps recently manufactured robot.

Yeah, after watching all 4 eps, this series did actually get better. I think I will like the "complex" (continuing) eps better than the "stand alone" ones though.

I noticed when comparing the DVD's use of the soundtrack, and the soundtrack itself, that they tried to make the music take a backseat to what occurs onscreen. I found that once I actually listened to the CD that it was very enjoyable.
