1 1 Hi, I've been waiting until I had at least 100 posts to do this.

Me: someone to have a life to be devoted to scholarly activities
Myself: slightly insecure, somewhat extroverted.
I: I want to do something with my life to make the world a better place. I have wanted to change the world, at least some small part of it in some small meaningful way. If I believed nothing else for 13 years, I would do just that. I'm a little less certain of that now.

What I want to major in: economics-enough options with it that it is good for an indecisive person like me, I can work in business and take calculus-

Favorite movies: Legally Blonde, Core, The Count of monte Cristo (I would still like it even if I had read the book), An American Rhapsody (a beautiful story about how a young Hungarian-American girl who comes to realize what it meant for her parents to leave Hungary), Surf Ninjas

TV I like: Gilmore Girls, Joan of Arcadia, I miss MASH, I used to regularly watch Nightline with Ted Koppel.

Books I really liked: Star of Light by Patricia St. John, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, The Street Lawyer by John Grisham, The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tam, Spy Line by Len Deighton, Off Camera: Private Thoughts Made Public by Ted Koppel

Random interest of study engaged in mostly in college freshman year: subcultures e.g. goth, punk, emo, etc. Why: to study social identity as a means of understanding social identity and who we are in groups. I used to feel out of place more. I am bothered less by that as I suppose I come to realize and accept who I am more. I still want to fit in and to be liked.

BTW: I was homeschooled, 1st through 12th.

Why Chien-Shiung Wu is part of my title here: She wa 1ted to learn about math, chemistry, and physics, so she did. She didn’t expect to be able to do anything with it because of the school track that she was on, but wanted to learn anyway so she borrowed her friends books and read them. Her father was willing to pay for further education for her. He even paid for her to go to grad school here in the U.S. because at that time women were not allowed to study physics in grad school. She got a Ph.D., did lots of stuff, helped design an experiment to test a hypothesis that won someone the Nobel prize, and taught at U.C. Berkley. Her students had nicknamed her the Dragon Lady. She died in 1997.

Homeschooled you say? I went to public school all my life so I don't know anything about being homeschooled. What is it like? Did you take tests? How were you tested? Were there certain subjects you had to take?

Being homeschooled was a lot like public schooling with a few differences. I had the usual math, science, english, social science,etc. I had to take these. I also had a couple of elective classes fitting some required type such as the fine art and foreign language requirements in highschool. PE without a school gym was a bit different.

My mom was my teacher. She had to turn in course descriptions about curriculum and grade sheets and such to our school. The school was basd in Corona and included families with students over multiple cities.

Walking to school for me meant walking to the front of the house. We were supposed to have a start time to the day, but honestly I wasn't very good aout that little detail.

In earlir school years, we had to take some kind of standardized tests. Like my brother, I took the California High School Proficiency Exam in 10th grade. This helped to prove that we knew some of what we would have to know.

The school year was broken into four quarters. Summer was a fifth quarter, but we never actually had summer school in my family. Each quarter had it's own grades that were turned in. I had tests throughout each quarter, but I never had anything like finals.

The school had various activities and some sports and things so that we weren't necessarily uninvolved, but I never got particularly involved there because I did not feel like we related to them as well. I preferred my church youth group in junior high and high school. I found out at my graduation the my gradutating class was in the low thirties. I think my class size was 34.

Thanks, I didn't know you were a Ruri fan. She's like the part of me the I don't express much-with the exception of calling people idiots. She was also the inspiration for the first line of my sig, but altered a bit from just calling all of us idiots. (I would not seek to call anyone or imply that anyone is an idiot with the occasional unfortunate exception of myself, thus this is the exception.)

I've heard the movie wasn't so great, but the Nadesico fan that I am, I still want to see it just once.

I think I neglected to mention that I really enjoy whenever I catch the show scrubs.

I've lived in a foundation home for amost 10 years and the moble home park we left was a very troubled neighborhood. Elements of that I think affect the way I see things even today. I am glad my mom kept me from knowing everything that went on. Youthful naivety can have its place. (I recently went to the autoinsurance people with my mom and went past old familiar territory. Talk happens. It always amazes me what a difference there is now. I am very grateful that we moved.)

Hey, you said you liked the Count of Monte Cristo. The old one or the remake? It's been ages since I've seen the original. i've seen the remake recently. It was good, but I would have to say the best version I've seen was a French made miniseries staring Gérard Depardieu. I've never read the book, but I would guess this one sticks the closest to it.

Anyway, nice to meet you sheherazade! -What does that name mean, anything special?

Scheherazade is the princess from The Arabian Nights. I don't know what the name means, but she was spared her life when the king would marry and kill his wife repeatedly. She was spared because the king would always want to wait until the next day so that she would finish the story she started telling him the night before. She kept starting new stories and eventually the king fell in love with her. I used Scheherazade as my name on a different website a while back, so I thought I would use the same name. Alas, I had forgotten the c. Sheherazade it is.

Sheherazade is the central focus of the legendary One Thousand and One Arabian Nights. A collection of 101 stories that legend tells us Sheherazade told over 1001 nights. Like Sheherazade said, she would leave each night's story on a cliff hanger (or a promise of a better story, depending on who you talk to) so the king would spare her life for just one more day so he could here the finally. After 1001 nights (approx 3 years) and stories like Aladdin and the 40 Thieves, the king finally relented and spared her life for good. It's a great story.

BTW, according to "Meaning Behind the Names," it means "person of the city" in Persian. I've seen it spelled SHAHRAZAD, SHEHEREZADE, and SHAHRIZAD, but never SCHEHERAZADE - that's a new one to me.

Cool. That is kind of like how it was for me. How do you like chemistry so far? I thought it was ok in high school, then I took it in college and it is one of my favorite classes. I like chemistry.
