Saikano anyone seen it?

Postby emoanimechild » Sun Jul 18, 2004 3:33 pm

I heard about this in an anime magazine, and i saw it in the store today. I guess the action/romance theme caught my interest. I like action anime but I'm not to sure about this one, it looked like it could be pretty sad. I was thinking about getting it, but I don't want to buy it if it's just going to depress me. :( I was wondering if anyone else has seen this or heard of it and had any info.

I've seen the first DVD (episodes 1-4 I think) and it does seem a little sad, but not depressingly sad. I thought it was good enough to warrant me checking out the second DVD, which I haven't gotten yet.

yeah I figured it would have to be at least semi-sad I just wanted to know how much, or if it was even worth buying. Thanks for the info :)

I've seen the first DVD and will probably watch the second DVD tonight. I think this one has the potential to be depressing in the long run. Probably not as depressing as Grave of the Fireflies, but a downer nonetheless. Still, it is an interesting twist on the boy-meets-girl love story theme...

He wants them to learn to walk and must therefore take away His hand; and if only the will to walk is really there, He is pleased even with their stumbles.

Healing hands of God have mercy on our unclean souls
once again. Jesus Christ, Light of the World, burning
bright within our hearts forever. Freedom means love
without condition, without beginning or an end. Here's
my heart, let it be forever Yours, only You can make
every new day seem so new.

Nail pierced hands they run with blood
A splitting brow forced by the thorns
His face is writhing with the pain yet it's comforting to me

In addition to it being depressing, I think there's also gonna be some themes of child abuse. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure the boy friend was abused. Furthermore, there's a part in the trailer where we see the girl (don't know what her name is ;)) with her button up shirt open so that we can see her bust (there was a purpose for it, but it was her bust none the less).
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I think ADV's releasing a manga too. I'm pretty sure of that. . .

yeah I didn't know about that....

the story well truthfully I haven't heard much, but from what I got it starts off with two highschoolers who are finally going out, but then the guy finds out that his girlfriend has been made into some sort of great weapon. well I'm not to sure if thats correct but someting along those lines. it was the picture that caught my attention. I really didn't have much time to read in either the magazine or the back of the anime. I was in Suncoast :)

I liked the storyline idea, but I haven't had the chance to look at it. I will if I come across it, though. (I rather like depressing stuff at times...)

If it's as depressing as Now and Then, Here and There, then I'm definitely watching it.
