I'm having an anime party pretty soon, and I'd like some suggestions for activies and movies. Please keep the movies PG-13 or below. Thanks. ^^

anything by Hayao Miyazaki should be great (Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, etc.) for activities you could do cosplay or maybe drawing contests.

you could get some pocky and serve them... umm you could make rice balls:) or you could just eat rice... ummm

for movies, hayao miyazaki stuff definatly!

for activities, you could play cards... i'm thinking "rich man, poor man" (played in fruits basket), you could also do charades with an anime theme.

if you know some Japanese, you can play Shiritori:

Shiritori is a Japanese word game in which the players are required to say a word which begins with the final kana of the previous word. No distinction is made between hiragana and katakana.
Example: sakura -> rajio -> onigiri -> risu -> sumou -> udon

The word udon loses the game, as it ends with a syllabic n. (Japanese words may not begin with a syllabic "n".)

Usually, only nouns are permitted.

In some variants, dakuten and handakuten (see Hiragana) are ignored. Thus furo can follow suupu.

Get hold of some jpop/rock cover bands in your area, if there are any. ^^ Keeps things from getting boring.

I think you should watch Millenium Actress. It's so great it it's just plain old PG. Good old, friendly PG. Furthermore, the animation is stunning, and the story it great 2. If you have any questions about, feel free to ask away.

Still, as others mentioned, you can't go wrong with a Miyizaki. But if you want to keep it under PG-13, stay away from Mononoke.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I had a DBZ birthday party for my son a few couple years ago. I hid foam balls with stars around the yard and the kids had to find them. Had a pin the tail on Freeza. My wife thought I was wacked as I was planning all this. Perhaps I was but my son (who was into DBZ at the time) got a kick out of it.

Yes Monoke is PG-13 so it would be acceptable.

If it's an all girls party, get some pictures of anime boys ,and think of creative ways to have fun with them.i'm sure the girls will find one pic to fall in love with   You can play pin the tail on the bishie  just kidding. When i had girl parties I would do scavenger hunts.you could make the hunts anime themed.Get some good dance cds.i agree that you should dress up in cosplay.

Actually, I reccently saw the first hour or so of Mononoke and thought it was fine. Animated violence doesn't bother me. Definatly J-pop/rock CDs. RICE BALLS! POCKY! The party's on the 20th, so I think we need to shoot for short-term stuff. So far:

Entertainment -
Princess Mononoke
Metropolis
Manga ( I have a ton)
Spirited Away

Decorations -
Bishies (lol)

Activities -
Rich Man Poor Man
Cosplay (?)
Treasure Hunt

Food/Drink -
Sake! (j/k)
Riceballs
Pocky
Think happy thoughts.

there's AWESOME Japanese candy (I mean it's sweet nectar) called melon gummy, kiwi gummy, etc. made by Kasugai (king of Jap snacks). They've got like 35-40 individually wrapped gummies in a bag and they are incredible. try them

Two words:

ANIME CHARADES.

One person gets up and imitates a certain anime character. The rest take turns guessing who the character is. To make it easier, have a hat full of anime names in a dish, so the guessers at least know the anime the character is from.

Fr. V and I have gotten together the last few years for an anime marathon. We spend a day watching either all of one anime series or a lot of randomness. Escaflowne was really good, but we watched the whole series and not the movie.

Hmm. . . wait. . . you meant movies. Umm .. . the good ones have been mentioned, I think. Well, if you are for Inuyasha then the movies should be a good choice.

Lets see, games? Anime charades would work. Or even who can eat a pocky the fastest. .. .j/k.. can't think of any sorry.

Definitely go with some sort of tea for refreshments. Oolong tea is exceptional, and so is green tea so long as you avoid american versions. The japanese ones are generally better. :)
