bakuretsu tenshi

Bakuretsu Tenshi (Burst Angel) was recently licensed by Funimation. Somebody called it 'a spaghetti western with giant robots' and that is probably the best description possible. I saw about 11 of the episodes, and I have to say, it's the best bad show I've ever seen. The plot is crap, the characters have no depth, and the OP song is so bad it makes my ears bleed (well, okay, not that bad). BUT! it's so stupid and hilarious (mostly hilariously stupid) that it is possibly the best show to come out of Japan since Gunslinger Girl (which, btw, is nothing like Bakuretsu Tenshi.) It centers around the life of four female bounty hunters in future Japan (the website puts the date at '20XX' :eyeroll:) who, ya know, hunt bounty heads. They are your sterotypical tough girl, leader girl, whiner/captured every other episode/mechanic girl, and computers girl. They also have a cook named Kyouhei who doesn't serve any real purpose in the show. The show is rife with fanservice, but it's so... unrealistic and relatively tame (only one panty shot in the whole show, no sexual innuendo to speak of) that it is much more funny than titillating or offensive. It's nice to watch a show like this every once in a while and let your brain turn off.
