WHY do you like anime?

Postby elmode1337 » Thu Jul 08, 2004 5:55 pm

Im not really sure WHY I enjoy watching anime and not enjoy regular shows in the USA as much. I think its because anime, at least most anime has a storyline while shows here you dont need to know what happened before that episode. why do YOU like anime?

The storylines are enjoyable, the art is amazing at times, there are loveable characters, etc....

Plus, there are bishies. And everbody's happy, especially me.

The terrifying moldy bread incident! In elementary school, Yomi's leftover bread started rotting inside her desk! you can't imagine what happened! Not only that, but the mold had a will of its own, it was terrible! Barricading ourselves in the science prep room, we used spirit lamps and engaged in combat! Then I realized it!! If we only had the bottle of mildew remover from the bathroom, we could destroy them!!

The big guy in your sig... just kidding. Though there are a few US shows I like(Stargate SGI, though that whole Assention crap really messed up Daniel Jackson as a character. Why didn't they just give him a honorable death :waah!: !), anime has a greater depth to it. Though some of the best animes really don't have a plot for most of it, like Cowboy Bebop.

I like anime because there are som an many intelligent plots. It's sorta hard to find a truly engaging story that spans 26 episodes here.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

1. The plots are interesting, a little of everything: drama, action, mystery, comedy.
2. The characters are interesting and I find that I can relate to some of them.
3. I love the art--it's like cartoons and realism at the same time.
4. The humor, I really like the exaggerated expressions of the characters.
5. There's a world of unusual creatures that are wonderful and cute.

This might sound extremely weird but, I get kind of bashful when I watch anime. I don't know why, it's like I'm not worthy enough to watch anime shows. I feel kinda embarassed when Roger Smith or Vash is right there on the television monitor looking at me. :red: Like I said, it's an unexplained feeling.

I like it because the characters are so real, and yet they can look so unreal. I mean, can we honestly blow snot bubbles out of our noses while sleeping or have big disconnected X's form on our heads ( :stressed: ) when we're stressed out in the real world?

I think NOT (and if you can, please don't go on some cheap TV show and let everyone know about it). :shake:

You can do so much more in animation. (well movies are catching up now a days).
anyhow you have great stories wtih super cool scenes that would have to be CG in live action. and the expresions can be exaggereated in anime, it makes for some funny expressions. the continuing story in a lot of them is a hook to keep watching.

I watch anime instead of watching real shows because I think that reality shows are pretty plotless, and american cartoons don't have as much depth in the plotline and characters...plus the art isn't that good...

Plus there are such a variety of anime (action, comedy, tragedy, angst...) Yea, I like that...^_^''

I like anime for many reasons. Manga gave me my fiancee. The bishies. All the different art styles are fun to see. The fact you can get a show with a developed plot in animation. List goes on. Jigen is one of the reasons, though. That beard is beyond strange...

Your fiancee? You're 12! (although I suspect that was a joke  )

I don't really think you can compare American cartoons with anime. They're just different, resulting from different cultures. Most American cartoons are (and always have been) either the slapstick comedy kind (think Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, etc.) or the action hero ones, like Superman. These are both great, but I prefer anime because like others said, MOST anime shows aren't episodic (Azumanga Daioh is the beloved exception), they have deep engaging plots that often confuse my head off and I adore the art style. I also find Japanese culture very interesting so its fun to see bits and pieces of it through anime/manga.

Well, for me I like it because it's a breath of relief. Usually the US Cartoons come in two categories. Childrens (Bugs bunny, powerpuff girls, etc) and Adult (all of Sealab, King of the Hill, etc.). The children shows can be a bit more silly and well, childish (not that that's a bad thing), then you move onto adult cartoons and it can get pretty bad. Whereas in Anime....they have a large spectrum of anime for all different ages. Another reason I like Anime so much more is how expressive they can be. Seriously....when Daffy gets mad do you every see those + marks form? no you just see heavy breathing and him turning red. Sorry, all bugs and daffy fans. Another reason I like Anime.....BISHIE'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^ Okay...I've said enough. I'll shut up now.

My mom still reminds me of the days when I would lie in front of the TV set on Saturday mornings in my PJs watching cartoon after cartoon after cartoon. (I know now you have that horrible image burned into your brains). Anime makes me happy, makes me feel like a kid.

Animation in general has a lot more freedom than live action, so that's a plus. On top of that, anime has a much larger focus. They'll cover anything in anime whereas Americans think of animation as mostly for kids. I still don't enjoy a lot of kid's anime - Duel Monsters, Rave Master, just about anything that makes it to Fox Box, Kid's WB, or Cartoon Network, but all of that is a lot better than the stuff we make here.

I've always liked watching cartoons. (hey Doc - you remember Speed Racer? Battle of the Planets? Star Blazers?) I like anime because a lot of it tackles plots I'm interested in. I never had to give up my cartoons. (Not that I would have - I still love Scoob and the gang.)

Yes, but I go back even further than that to Astro Boy, Gigantor, Amazing Three and Kimba The White Lion when they were first played on TV in the U.S.

Well first of all its the amazing and original storylines... then its the really nice animations. anime also give a more in depth description of the main characters which is very good.

the only non-anime series that i ever enjoyed watching was spider-man

Anime is awesome not only because it emphasizes story and character development, but also because it often supports traditionally Christian concepts and values - values like collectivism (good of the group before the good of the individual), self-sacrifice, politeness, humility, honor, personal discipline, respect + protection for women and the weak or poor, respect for authority, and recognition of personal unworthiness. Of course there are plenty of exceptions to this. But American media often degrades women, marriage, and sex, promotes a 'MY needs/wants come first' attitude, makes fun of religion and authority, and is chock full of 'violence is fun' and 'other people don't matter' messages. Watch a Rurouni Kenshin movie and an American action movie like 'Payback', 'Total Recall', or 'Speed'; watch 'Azumanga Daioh' and 'South Park', and you tell me why America has a much higher crime rate than Japan.

In short, American movies and TV make me feel uncomfortable when they don't make me disgusted. Japanese film and television, while certainly far from perfect (*cough* hentai *cough*) is usually a much better choice than the majority of comparable American media.

I like anime because of the very interesting story lines and the wonderful animation that is in most anime. I also like that it isn't always centered around being too funny or too adventurous and has some depth to it.

I love anime for its great story, art styles, and its believeable and relatable characters. US shows just dont have much story and the art style isnt that great, and it sucks how the US is now trying to imitate anime.

Anime/good animation is my passion. There are so many reasons why I like it, but prolly the main reason is the animation itself. It's just so stunning, amazing, detailed, breath-taking, and inspiring. Absolutely uncompared to anything in this world.
Anime is also usually very reflective and almost peaceful. It can make you say, "WOW!! HOW DID THEY DO THAT?!!", it can make you cry(face turns red) it can inspire, it can do alot! It's more than just some "cartoon", it's a piece of art for all ages!!
The stories and characters are also great too! Anime has crazy hilarious reactions that only anime can deliver. I've seen american anime wantabes try, but it never delivers quite like the real thing. I just love it! I've been watching anime for a decade now, and it still continues to captivate me. I'll never get out of it.

Maybe I am a baka, but I like anime because I really like the japanese language which means I almost exclusively watch subtitled anime.

Simply put. I found out that I could tell the difference between anime and real life. Video games made me numb to reality and anime is easier to distinquish from the real and the unreal.

Another reason is that I chose anime/japan/japanese/etc as my hobby. 2nd only to God.
