otakon, who will be there?

The real heart of CAA; discuss specific series, issues, and things related to anime here.

I *might* get to go. I'm planning on going. It's strange, since I live a lot closer to Anime Expo than to Otakon (I live in Arizona). I wasn't able to go to Anime Expo this year because of lack of money, but I might get to go to Otakon because my online boyfriend, who lives in Philedelphia, has a tradition of going to Otakon with his nephew and wants to fly me out this year. So far, I'm planning to go, since he is paying the way.

If I do wind up going, I will be cosplaying Hikari from Haibane Renmei - with a Halo Mold (styrofoam gold donut-looking thing on a stick)... So, look for a girl with a long browinsh velvety skirt (I'm doing Hikari's Winter outfit), little wings, a doofy halo sticking up from her head, and a styrofoam gold donut-thing on a stick. Some people cosplay Haibane, but, I don't think it's a cosplay that's terribly common yet, so... I might be distinguisable...

Also, I want to cosplay Rem Saverem from Trigun (just be in a white shirt, jeans, black wig, holding fake red geraniums... and wearing a little SEEDS pendant necklace I made) and Vash from Trigun (I doubt anyone will recognize me as Vash, though... lots of Vashes at cons). My Vash coat has been signed by Youske Kuroda, though - got that at last year's AX - so, if you see a bloned girl with a signiture on a panel of her Vash coat, that's probably me.

However... I do have a cosplay I'll be doing, if I can make it work, though I'll probably only do it breifly becaue my neck will hurt... I don't think ANYONE has ever done this cosplay before - PLANET GUNSMOKE. I made a landscape-diorama thing to be worn on the head. It's a styrofoam base stuck to a bicycle helmet, painted in desert colors, desert rocks glued to it, a lightbulb for a "Plant", and little character figures I made out of Sculpey clay. If I can get that thing on the plane or figure out how to mail it to my boyfriend marked FRAGILE before the con - I will be VERY distinguishable wearing that.

So, if you're at Otakon and you see a blonde idiot wearing a Planet Gunsmoke landscape on their head - I almost guarantee you that's me, so shout out "SHADSIE! HAIBANE SHADSIE!" and I'll come right over!

It's too late for me to sign up this year without paying a laod of cash, and anyway I want enought time to make/buy a cosplay costume. Tidus20 (my brother) makes the most fitting Naota ever, and by Otakon next year, he'll be twelve, just like Naota. I followed him around the mall calling him Naota-kun the entire day, just to annoy him. ^^ I want to get a cosplay costume off eBay because there's a lady who makea and sells Chii costums for a living. Sounds nice.
Think happy thoughts.

You know in the second episode, where everybody is sitting on the porch outside the Nandaba house? Well, for some reason, it displays the name and age of the person onscreen. Naota's said 12, Haruko's said 19, Mamimi's said 17, and Naota's dad and grandpa both had question marks.
Think happy thoughts.

That's Otacon. The name is indeed, however, based on the anime festival Otakon (pronounced oat-a-kon).

I don't think i'm dressing up as anyone this year.......i haven't come up with anything original enough (or cost effective enough) to pull it off.....yet....

i know the guys i'm going with (christians as well) are cosplaying the Aqua Teen Hunger Force......which should be a riot.....hehe...

so if you see a spikey-haired guy walking around with a giant milkshake and fries.....that would probably be me..........=)

A spikey-haired guy at an anime con... that narrows it down.

Here's a question: once we meet up, where we gonna go? Can any of us drive or is there somewhere we can walk to?

I think the convention is next to a bunch of places we could walk to, driving may be hard because of how crowded it would be, besides that the cars will be probably be parked far away...and we may loose our spots. I don't know exactly where we would go though.

If you live in maryland it might be best to take the metro and stop off at the Charles St stop and walk straight to the convention center downtown. it's near the harbor

Guys, I'd just like to remind you all how dangerous this is, espically keeping this thread in mind http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=9753

While some people here seem very nice, the truth is... you don't know them, and what if someone is watching this thread, and goes to Otakon pretending to be someone from CAA? This is very very dangerous.

thanks for the heads up (even though I'm not going) anime cons can be a creepy place . . . I went to one once with my bro and it was strange.

yeah, I that did come to mind. Thats why it may be best to just stay in the convention center. You don't think anything would happen in a crowded place like that do you? Unfortunatly I guess it's always possible. Thanks for the concern :)

I would love to be able to cosplay, but sadly, I'm not. *sniffles* I have vowed to one day cosplay though. ^_^

Dude, at Katsucon this year, me and my friends saw a guy dressed up as Trogdor! It was so awesome. We all stopped and gave him his kudos, and he's like, "Wait, wait, lemme do the S!" It was great. ^_^

Thanks for the concern, Vyse. I'm a little apprehensive myself, but I'll be with my friends, and I don't think we'll be sticking around for long, cuz not all of my friends are on CAA. ^_^
