Nausicaa any good?

Postby Ichigo_89 » Thu Jun 24, 2004 12:53 pm

I hear the manga is like, a masterpiece, but I have no idea. Also, does the movie play on region 1 DVD players? Is the movie any good?

At this point, if it did play on a region 1 DVD player it would be a bootleg. Disney has the distribution rights to Nausicaa. It was scheduled for release on region 1 on August 31st. However, last week that release was put on hold indefinately. That announcement holds true for My Neighbor Totoro and Porco Rosso both which were supposed to be released on the same day. Again, no future release date was given. From my understanding, Nausicaa is a classic.

Yes, Nausicaa is classic, and whenever Disney gets its train back on the tracks-- you'll really enjoy seeing it. You should see it, but you should wait until Disney releases it. I am------ AND IT'S KILIING ME!!!! AHHH!!! ;)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. Make sure you read some content reviews before you dive into Akira. It's pretty intense and definitely not for the kiddies.

First of all, I'm not a kiddy. And second, I've read many of the reviews for it.

Oops. Um, didn't mean to step on any toes. I just thought I'd double check that you knew what you were renting/buying. I know some of the rest of us have gotten anime before and been upse because we were unware of the violence or fanservice. Happens to the best of us. Didn't mean to offend. Once more, sorry.

What?

Aside from perhaps Princess Mononoke, all of Miyazaki's movies are pretty much family-oriented in the first place. Personally, I thought that Disney has done a great job on the dubbing of Studio Ghibli's movies so far.

Yea, I gotta agree with MasterDias. Most of miyizaki's movies are for everybody. Furthermore, I thought the disney releases of Miyizaki movies have been really tastefully handled. Especially Spirited Away. I was more than impressed with that one. The voice acting was, IMHO, great and the theater release was very generous considering the less than half-hearted theater performance of Princess Mononoke.

Naussica is real classic work. IMHO, it sets the standards for Anime and animated features. If Disney ever decides to release it, I will own it, and I'm sure it will be better quality than the version I saw. I saw it more than 10 years ago as a fan-sub and fell in love with it then despite the lower quality you come to expect from fan sub/dub work.
