That a very thorough review, Hitokiri! Great job ;) I read the whole thing, and from what I saw of the show (the one off of Toonami) and what I've heard, the review is correct ;) Keep up the good work and keep giving us good anime reviews!

Great review, Hitokiri. Yeah, Outlaw Star is classic anime. It has all the elements you find in a good action anime. Gene is perfect, playing his role as the hero and Melfina is sweet. I really enjoyed Outlaw Star, but it has been a few years since I've seen it. I might check it out again some time after reading your review. ^_^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

That is the downside of reviews, Shao. Reviews, as objective as you make them, are essentially based on perspective. Two, maybe even three people wrote those reviews, each with a different sense of "rating" and "age limit". That's why reading the actual explanations for each limit is important. While we try to do our best to standardize things, we have to leave room for other intepretations. In other words, if we relied on just the staff to write reviews, we'd have a very limited quantity. But to expand and let members write reviews means a variation in what defines what limits. And even then, just because I write a review and think, "this is only suitable for 16 up", someone else with a different set of standards and perspectives may read it and think "wow, that wasn't so bad".

I heard about Episode 23, and man it ticked me off. Especially since it really was no benefit to the series. Y7 version, I love you!

So there's not much of a standard then? Clearly, Outlaw Star is more offensive then Trigun, considering that the reviews are accurate, then of course the CN Trigun version is reviewed here.

"Clearly outlaw star is more offensive than trigun"--well that's not exactly a fact, Shao. That's an opinion. What you may consider offensive others, including myself, may find only slightly questionable. As I stated, that's the downside of reviews--everyone interprets things slightly differently, and even if we narrowed it down to just one staffer writing ALL the reviews, you would still find those that disagree with what is mentioned. The best thing we can do, and what I and the staffers have always tried to do, is merely list objectively all the possibly questionable instances in a particular series and let people judge for themselves if this is ok to watch or not.

Actually to be honest, I disagree with reviews being based on cut versions, if somtehing is going to be reviewed, it should be the uncut version so we can know the worst of what to expect, this is why I'd like to see mutiple reviews for the same anime allowed.

Most of the time, we prefer reviews done on uncut versions precisely for those reasons, Vyse.

ahh the reviews I have done thus far have been based on uncut versions and only if I have seen the entire series more than once. I didn't consult which age limit was given to Trigun or Cowboy Bebop and I felt that was a suitable age limit for Outlaw Star.

Sorry if this caused so much controversy!!

Good man, thats TOTALLY the right thing to do, I only think a series should be reviewed if the person has seen it in its entirity, if a series hasn't been completed, then the review should only be for the season(s) the person has seen.

It's pretty much impossibly to review a anime..anything for that matter if you have not seen it in it's entirety and orginality to properly point out whats wrong with it.

Say I only seen half of Outlaw Star...I might not include Hot Springs on Planet Tenrai. Well...then the person reading this review will miss out on that (if he or she doesn't try other sources at all) and when he or she goes to watch it, they watch that episode and then get all mad and come on the internet and bash and thrash me all bout cause I left out that part cause I didnt see the entire series and then that person blows up my computer and the shrapnel pokes my eyes out and I then run blidnly for a few minutes only to run off a cliff that suddently appeared out of nowehrre and then I combust in flames....................

thats why I do my reviews the way I do. I value my eyeballs.

Well, that's the general idea behind the reviews - I almost always insist that the review be based on an uncut version. This one is just an exception. Also, if the review only covers one season - it's required to say so. I also add that exceptions are clearly marked either in the review or in the thread (unless I was having a total brain cramp that day). Before we add reviews to the database, we double-check which version the review based their writing on.

It's my goal that a CAA review be 100% accurate and trustworthy, and the reviewers share this goal as well. Please don't overlook or take this fact for granted, because many people work hard to make the reviews happen for this very goal.

In this case, I was aware that Hitokiri has only seen the cut version, but many people were wondering about the CN version itself - so putting up his review is better than having nothing up for Outlaw Star at all.

Also, while Hitokiri did write the review, I'd like to remind everyone that it was a staff member (in this case, me) that approves the review - therefore we become responsible for the accuracy as much as the writer. If you see a blatent error in a review, let me know first, please (PM works best, as always) because I'm the one that can fix it. Then I will go to the writer and let them know. There's no sense in jumping down a writer's back, especially when they don't have the option to directly edit their posted review.

The only reason why I watch anime is to have a good time...to be entertained. I don't usually look into a anime an dhave it change my life.

So in others words, no Outlaw Star doesn't serve nothing more then a good time but it's still a good anime despite all the fan service which I don't mind at all, I can easily put up with it. I dont want to get into a rant on my viewpoint of fan service.

now one anime that we could do without is Pokemon.
