Don't know why I haven't posted this yet but
here is the vod from the last session. Now that I've taken care of that, it is time for us to sit down and have a little chat about some changes going on on Twitch. If you are not aware, Twitch has most likely been purchased by Google recently (you can read an article about those rumors
here ) and there have been a number of changes going on that seem to have confirmed that, at the very least, something big is going on behind the scenes. Justin.TV, which Twitch spawned off of, has been closed by its management and Twitch has also announced some changes to how they are handling vods on their site. You can read about those changes in the following two blog posts:
Blog 1Blog 2For those of you too lazy to read those blog posts, here is a brief summary. The first blog details Twitch's partnering with a company called Audible Magic to crack down on licensed music and audio used in saved vods. This does not affect live broadcasts but will cause any section with audio under Audible Magic's jurisdiction to be muted with no way to get around it. The second blog details major changes to how Twitch will be storing vods from this day forward. Before, they used to store past broadcasts for about 3 days unless you choose to save that broadcast forever and had no restrictions on the length of any highlights you created from those broadcasts. Now, they are increasing the length that they store past broadcasts from 3 days to 14 days but are removing the option to save them forever and are restricting highlights to no longer then 2 hours a piece (highlights made before this update will not be changed).
So what does this all mean and why am I making a post about it? I'll start with the why. This post is an explanation for anyone who starts watching our RPs later (or goes back) and encounters some of these changes and wonders what happened. For the most part, neither of these changes are going to affect much. The change outlined in the second blog is just going to give me more work in creating highlights. I will be posting them in parts from this point forward since we typically go over two hours each session. The change outlined in the first blog is a bigger deal and is the real focus of this post. We have, in the past, used some audio at moments that is indeed licensed. So there is a very good chance that some of those vods will end up with massive sections muted out as a result. I will be going through the older videos soon to get prepared for whenever we move back to my campaign so I should be able to tell if and where we have lost audio in our sessions. If there is a video that has had audio removed, I will try and see if I can upload it elsewhere like Youtube but these are pretty massive videos so this may be a problem I just won't be able to fix. This shouldn't be a problem in future sessions since Andrew and I will likely just hunt down some appropriate audio that's royalty free or something and use it instead.
So if you are watching one of the vods of our old sessions and suddenly here the audio cut out, that is likely the reason why.
