I have never participated in this thread and I'm not sure why. I've gotten a lot from the book equivalent and it's not like I don't play games.
Currently playing:
Desktop Dungeons (a surprisingly fun indie game, basically a 10 minute rogue-like)
Mario 64 (beaten, but with only 75 stars I haven't even seen a bunch of levels)
Plants vs Zombies (basically done, I think, but I haven't tried Survival Infinite yet)
Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled (better than reported but the encounter rate... it's best to just set the game aside sometimes)
Partially played but set aside until I finish other games/projects:
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
La Mulana
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Lufia II
I also technically have unfinished replays of Cave Story, Mario RPG, and Chrono Trigger, but I only play those on rare occasions for the sake of a change of pace or relaxation.

Anyhow. I'm not far yet. Only to the Kero Sewers.
Sorry if this is old news for you, but the #1 thing I wish I had known earlier: Mario's basic "Jump" attack increases its base attacking power by a fraction of a point every time it is used. There is no limit to this except the max value for attacking power, so it's potentially the most powerful attack in the game. Using this excessively is kind of fun, since bosses weak to the jump element can go down in one hit.
