I picked up Volume 1 in the store the other day and noticed it was rated T+ (older teen), which suprised me for a Shonen Jump title. I was just wondering if the violence was the only reason for the rating, and if it would be okay for someone my age to get?

I last week I read Volume 1. I never saw the anime series so it's all new for me. I like it so far, but I'm just wondering what "oro" means. :D

I'll have to see when I can afford the next volume, though.

I love Kenshin! And yes, I'm about your age and I think it'd be okay for u to read, no prob. There is some blood and a little swearing (bad Sano) but other than that there isn't really anything. Volume four has a bit more blood than the others but i'm pretty squeamish and i was okay. I definitely reccomend this series. Kenshin displays a lot of christian values and for the most part it's clean. No fanservice or sexual content. It's also very humorous. Just flip through volume four before u buy that one but the others are okay. Hope u enjoy! ;)

My best friend's obsessed with Kenshin :shake:

I might look it up the next time I visit Borders (which will probably will be a year from now, even though it's just down the street)

It's Shonen Jump? Which means it's cheaper...YAY!!!

You don't have to worry about the "Son of God" Christian arc in Rurouni Kenshin. I read a review of it and the guy thinks that he's THE son of God because of something that once happened to him, but the arc makes it obvious that he's not. The arc is really about the underground Christians being persecuted in Japan.

Actually at first the "comic sequences" in Volume 1 kind of irritated me (the way the art-style gets simplified whenever something silly happens) but once you get used to it you can't really visualize the manga without it. I'm going to purchase Vol 2 soon.

Hmmmm.

Quick question.

Every now and then, in the manga, Kenshin says, when he's surprised, "Oro?". What does that mean?

Nothing much. ^^ The closest common Japanese version is "A-re?", which is just, simply, "Huh?"

It is correct that everything after the Kyoto arc in the anime is NOT manga-based. The Jinchuu arc is Volumes 18-28, and is only animated in some places.

Good. I sort of picked the expression up and was afraid it might mean something nasty.

I don't know exactly what Oro means, but it's most definitely NOT a swear/something nasty because Kenshin doesn't use bad language.

It is close to A-re?, that it is. (it must be Kenshin's version of it, heh)

Oh, it's happened to you, too? Don't worry, I also say "Oro?" every so often, especially when I'm clueless like Kenshin. ^^ I can actually say it exactly like Kenshin if I wanted to do so badly enough.

For those of you have gotten volume 1, wait until you get to around volume 16, toward the end of the Kyoto arc. The artwork is at its most detailed there. And, of course, there's Enishi to watch out for, volume 18 onwards. ^^

No not yet, as far as I know it's up to the 5th volume. However I think one can buy the DVDs. (This one's talking about only 5 manga volumes being out, that I am.)

I say Oro constantly. I can say it like Kenshin too. ^^x

Viz is releasing the Kenshin graphic novels fairly quickly compared to some of their other series actually.

Well, the reason that many of their other Shonen Jump graphic novels are being released so slowly is because they are currently being serialized in Shonen Jump magazine at about the rate of 2-3 chapters per issue and Viz waits until all of the chapters of each graphic novel is run through the magazine before each of the actual graphic novels is released. Kenshin is not serialized in the magazine and so, the graphic novels are released much faster.
It's a good marketing strategy and all, but I do wish they would speed it up a bit.
None of the series in Shonen Jump are anywhere near finishing, and three of the series are still continuing. It gets a bit ridiculous when you consider the fact that a manga like One Piece, at 30+ volumes and still going strong, will end in the US probably around ten years after it ends in Japan at the current US rate of release. :eh:

I can live with their current rate of release right now, but sometime in the near future they really should speed it up.
