You always remember your first Doctor.

So I was wondering, for those that enjoy Doctor Who, who was your first Doctor and who was your favorite? Which was your favorite episode? Favorite enemy? Favorite companion? Also, if you've been keeping up with it, what do you think of Matt Smith as the Doctor?

As for me, I would catch glimpses of the 9th Doctor (Chris Eccleston) as my dad, who's actually a pretty big Doctor Who fan sinc the 60's, which is so nice, because now I have some one to geek out with at home about this, would watch the show from time to time when I was in high school, but I didn't really understand or anything so I thought he was just watching the usual Sci-Fi channel horrid cheese tv. Then the 10th doctor became more visible in my house. I thought he was cool but again would just lol at the cheesy costumes of the daleks or the other villans. THEN a wonderful friend of mine who knew I like to get freaked out and hate dolls/things with a face that aren't suppose to move showed me the Blink episode during the 10th Doctor (David Tennant). LOL That got me watching, but since it didn't have much of Tennant, I was kinda like, "Meh, I'll just start with this new doctor that everyone's getting all urked about." So, Eleven is my first Doctor. I've also gone back to the original original. The First Doctor from 1963. I'm in the middle of the the 5th story. I like it...but I wish it had waaaay more Doctor; of course I am still starting out at the beginning so I hope I'm just getting ahead of myself.

As for my favorite epiode, it's a tie between 4 from the new series: The Eleventh Hour, Vincent and The Doctor (Made me cry. lol), The Lodger, and The Big Bang.

My favorite enemy, I think, would have to be the Daleks. I find them adorable. lol I want to make them. (Papercraft! Yay!)

My favorite companion...well I have only just started and the ones from the first doctor and Amy Pond are the only ones I know...out of those four...I would have to say Amy Pond. She may make dumb choices a few times but not as much as the older ones.

And as for Matt Smith, I quite enjoy his, "I'm crazy and sorta have a plan and really hope this works... YOU TRUST ME RIGHT? OH WELL, I'M TOTALLY GOING TO OWN THIS! HUR HUR HUR. GERONIMOOOOOO!!!"

My first Doctor was Jon Pertwee but my favourite was Tom Baker, and in the new series - David Tennant.
My favourite episode is possibly Blink but there are a number of quality episodes - (pretty much anything penned by Steven Moffat). I also enjoy many of the Tom Baker stories but it's been ages since I've seen them, so I can't put titles to them (there are now 769 Doctor Who episodes!)
Favourite enemy? Probably the Weeping Angels.
Favourite companion? Donna for having an interesting personality, Amy Pond for her looks and unique character. She's not just a pretty face.
I enjoyed some of Matt Smith's work as the Doctor. He's not my favourite but he's very good most of the time. He manages to portray the Doctor in his darker moments and also manages to come across as both ancient and wise and young and naive. Matt's a bit of a nutter.

I've heard Tom Baker is a favorite for lots. Aaaah! I want to watch them all to have a better opinion on the doctors! D: lol Very time consuming though. I also like how Amy Pond can be as nutty as the doctor, especially in the last episode of series 5.

I only just got into the show, so I guess my favorite Doc would have to be Matt Smith.

Favorite episode: Probably either a weeping angel one, or 'The Pandorica Opens', which is the last one I've seen... I've got to watch 'The Big Bang', darn it. XD

Favorite villain: The Weeping Angels. They're just so awesome.

Favorite companion would have to be Amy Pond. Obviously. There's not much selection for me. XD

I know the Daleks are the most revered monster in the Doctor Who canon but I think they're overused and not the least bit scary (at least their salt and pepper shaker outside shell). The inside though? Yeah, a little creepy.

I've seen episodes with the first Doctor and I thought they were rather crap. The companions were interesting enough but the stories were educational and the Doctor was a crabby old fart, not the least bit likeable. Also, they had the obligatory cave man story that every 60's series seems to have - boring!

I've seen some of the other classic Doctors but they seem to pale in comparison to Jon Pertwee and especially Tom Baker and David Tennant. The rebooted series is some of the best Doctor Who you'll find. If you haven't seen much start with Season 1 (the reboot) and work your way to the end of David Tennant's run. There are quite a few gems in there.

I have only seen the reboot series 1 and 2 and part of 3, so I am a pretty "young" fan, comparatively, but I like the 9th doctor, Eccleston (who was the first one I ever saw) and the 10th doctor, Tennant about equally. Maybe even with a little preference to Tennant.

Villains is easy, as the Daleks take the cake every time. How can you not be amused by that robot voice with just a touch of hysteria? It is like they are always set on edge and the least little thing will set off their insanity and cause something horrific to happen. The best scene with them yet has to be when they encounter the Cybermen in the reboot series 2. Robot trash-talking at its finest.

Favorite companion is difficult, because I don't really care for any of them. If forced to pick I would choose Rose's successor, Martha Jones, simply because she tends to do useful things instead of standing around and screaming for the Doctor to save her. Case in point: when the Doctor asked her to turn on an x-ray machine during a near-death encounter, she keeps her cool well enough to grab the manual for the machine, look up the power on process, and perform it. Rose would never have been able to do that.

Favorite episode? Haven't found one that truly stands out yet, but I generally like the season finales.

And as for Matt Smith, I quite enjoy his, "I'm crazy and sorta have a plan and really hope this works... YOU TRUST ME RIGHT? OH WELL, I'M TOTALLY GOING TO OWN THIS! HUR HUR HUR. GERONIMOOOOOO!!!"

My First Doctor was Christopher Ecclesston. My favourite is Tennant, and my favourite episodes are either Blink or the two parter Human Nature / Family of Blood.

My favourite enemy were the Daleks, but they got overused to the point that I am now quite indifferent towards them. That said, I kind of like the goofy zipper-in-the-head quality of the Slaveen, though.

As for companion, I rather liked Catherine Tate's no-nonsense attitude, so she's my favourite. The other companions just smile and nod, but Tate's Donna Noble at least challenged the Doctor's ramblings.

fave episode: Any Daleks encounter, also like the Trial of a Time Lord arc. And I'm probably one of the few who will say that.
BTW, does anyone know where I can get Region 1 DVD's of this series at reasonable prices?

Grubb, you're talking about the rebooted series, aren't you? Because otherwise those are Seasons 27-29 (I think).

Rocklobster, yes, Ace was pretty good. She was one of the stronger female companions. She even had a character arc throughout the series.

My first Doctor was David Tennant and he still remains my favorite Doctor, though Matt Smith sits in the comfortable second place and Tom Baker in third. The first Doctor Who episode I saw was the "Satan Pit" (that is the episode name you are looking for, btw, Grubb). Not the best episode to start at, but rather a brilliant episode nonetheless.

This sums up my feelings on my favorite companion quite well.
While I did enjoy the cute love story between Rose Tyler and the Doctor, Donna seemed to one of the few companions who actually understood the Doctor the most and could see eye to eye with him (even though she was only a Temp from Chiswick. XD) She also brought some light-hearted humor to the show. "Partners in Crime" is an episode I always enjoy.

Oh yeah, and Amy is about ten times better than I thought she would be when I first saw the previews of the 11th Doctor's season, so she deserves a mention.

I would be doing a majority of the series a disservice to pick a favorite episode, but I will humor you all. "The Big Bang" was cleverly done, but because I love the 10th Doctor so much, I would have to pick the two parter "End of Time".
Another reason I like this set of episodes:
[spoiler] I've never liked The Master when he had made appearances in the previous seasons, but I felt this episode gave him some redeeming value and really put into perspective what the friendship between him and the Doctor once was. Plus, I like redeemed villains. They always have to die, though. Whyyyyy? 8C [/spoiler]

The weeping angels are by far one of the most well done villains/monsters (hence why people love them and their stony scariness), but my favorite would have to be the Vashta Nerada (despite the episodes with them being my least favorite). Stay out of the shadows. o:

Two words: River Song. I'm probably in the minority, but I cannot bring myself to like her yet (even after the 5th series), she just annoys me. XD;
That aside, the story in Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead was nicely done in all other aspects. I did especially like the ending to that two parter (about being "saved" and whatnot).
And yes, the Weeping Angels always seem to trump everyone. Who knew they could come out of TVs? D8

Just watched "Blink" for the first time tonight, and I can safely place that as my favorite episode ever. I also see why the Weeping Angels are so popular, they are amazingly freaky villains. Like others have noted, they fill the "scary villain" quota the way the Daleks never will be able to. I still like the Daleks better, though. They just exude classy villainy.

Oh boy, a(nother) Doctor Who thread!

My first Doctor . . . the one clearest in my mind is Tom Baker. When I was like five or six years old, I used to sit in the living room and watch DW reruns with my mother. I had no idea what was going on, but it was different and weird and fun. I don't remember much, but certain iconic images, sounds and music remained lodged in my head long after I'd forgotten what exactly they were. I did see some new episodes back then, I have some vague memory of Sylvester McCoy and one bit ofdialogue from one episode.

Favorite Doctor: of the classics, Peter Davidson (post-Adric). Of the new, David Tennant. Sadly, I've not yet seen beyond Season 4.

Favorite companion: Classic - Ace. Modern - Rose Tyler. Also, I really didn't think Adric himself was so bad. Just for some reason, he seemed to bring out the worst in the Doctor.

Favorite adversary: You gotta love the Daleks, but for my money The Master is the best baddie. Anthony Ainley was such a classy "evil mastermind" type.

They have no gimmicks, no cheap superpowers, no twisted desires for social embetterment. They are just a straightforward, classic evil with a meglomanical twist. They are cunning, ruthless R2-D2's crossed with the Terminator. They embody the spirit of the Nazi's (the greatest of all villains in media) through their desire for racial purging. Finally, they have that awesome voice. While they aren't scary, they are still dangerous enough to give you that "oh crap" feeling every time one pops up on screen, and they have a long and bloody history with the Doctor that carries a lot of emotional baggage along with it.

The Weeping Angels are great menaces or beasts or dangers, but they aren't villains.

Okay, I'll give you that one but in my books Daleks have been overused to the point of boredom (if you've seen the classic series at least). But that they were based on the Nazi is both frightening and incredibly appropriate. Exterminate!

Fav episode: I don’t know, it ranges between ones that creeped me out completely like Blink and Midnight and just plain fun eps (even though they have sadness too) like The Girl in the Fireplace and Love & Monsters. Special mention to Family of Blood 2-parter. But honestly I can’t really choose, these are just examples. I could say anything with David Tennant. XD

Fav companion: Donna [spoiler]Although I was a little sad that even at the end she still thought of herself as a nobody. She seemed to get over this during her time with the Dr and in the end it was like she had no character development at all. Doctor-Donna was awesome though and it was really sad what happened to her. [/spoiler]
I must say I like Rose’s spunk though and how fun she is and just goes with everything if it sounds like fun. I don’t have anything against Martha Jones, I like how she goes on fighting even when she’s left the Dr. I even quite like Jack Harkness too. Also; Wilfred Mott. I love his unwavering faith in how wonderful the Doctor is. Oh boy, I seem to be having the same problem with companions as I have with episodes. XD

Fav villain: The Master (he’s such a fun little psychopath) and the Daleks (for the reasons ich mentioned)
Creepiest villain (sorry I can’t lob them in with fav): 3-way tie between the Weeping Angels (was home alone when watching this episode and fully expected to see one outside the window which is reflected in the glass of our TV cabinet), the Empty Child and the monster from Midnight. Special mention to those French robots from The Girl in the Fireplace, I nearly jumped out of my chair when it appeared next to the bed. Ticking clocks, nononono.

I agree with Goldy that Doctor Who has definitely made me wary of inanimate objects. We have a local shopping centre with statues of children in a courtyard type area and I ALWAYS keep an eye on them when I go past. I’ve yet to see them out of place though, so I think there’s usually enough people around for them not to move. I think they’re actually made of bronze, but I’m not taking any chances.

My fav partner ws Donna Noble.XD She was funny, witty, and spunky. I agree with goldy on the fact that Donna was the only one that was eye to eye with him and understood him the best. Yeah my fav enemy... its hard to choose. The weeping angels were awesome...but the Master was awesome as well. He was insane. The actor did such a great job. Besides bringing The Master back, there was a special short with David Tennant and the fifth Doctor (Peter Davidson) called "Time Crash". Throughout the reboot series, they do make some references back to the previous Doctors' series, but most people don't catch it unless they've been watching the series for a while.

Actually, a timelord can regenerate 12 times, thus the 13th Doctor would be the final one (if they stay true to the fact that was established in the previous series's). Although, whether this will be the fate of the Doctor or not is up for debate. For one, back in the Forth Doctor's time, The Master broke through this regeneration "rule" (thus why we have him in the newer series), and two, Stephen Moffat is now producing/writing the series, so he can make the story go however he wants. XD

I loved "Doomsday", but yes, it was very sad. Heck, I watched it fairly soon after I started watching Doctor Who, and I still teared up. ;o; Loved the music at the wall scene, though.

Now here's something that always bugged me. What was up with the varying lengths of classic dr. who eps? At first, it was a half hour, then a full hour, and finally an hour and a half? And now the current one is back to one hour each ep, or so I hear.

hey mega cool! I didnt know you were a fan. I havent seen the originals either. well...I saw a few of the first eps. Thats it though. What got me into it was the reboot. My dad told me and my sibs about it. He was a Doctor Who fan when he was young.^^
