The Blues Brothers declared a Catholic classic

Postby MomentOfInertia » Tue Jun 22, 2010 7:58 pm

In a stunning move by the Vatican, the classic Dan Aykroyd-John Belushi comedy film "The Blues Brothers" was declared a "Catholic classic" alongside more pious films such as "The Ten Commandments" and "The Passion of the Christ."

Rest of the story at:

(It's a news site so, all associated warnings are implied, I'm being paranoid about this but as I am new here I'm being cautious.)

Not the most family-friendly movie but, I like it, it's definitely my favorite musical.

I'm not entirely sure how to feel about this, but for the sake of simplicity, I will go with my first instinct, which is "This is awesome."

Well, that's pretty cool, I guess. But now I'm waiting for the endorsement for "Sister Act"!

All I can say is, it's a good day to be Catholic!

Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.

Jake: Hit it.

...you must begin a reading program immediately so that you may understand the crises of our age... Begin with the late Romans, including Boethius, of course. Then you should dip rather extensively into early Medieval. You may skip the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. That is mostly dangerous propaganda. Now that I think of it, you had better skip the Romantics and the Victorians too. For the contemporary period, you should study some selected comic books.

I'd forgotten about this, and I'd forgotten to comment.

The news bit is definitely weird and unexpected. XD

I've seen the movie, and I like the nun. Also, "'Curl up and Dye' Hair Salon" is the most awesome name for a salon ever. XD

I love this movie. Especially the Penguin's immortal line "And don't come back until you've redeemed yourselves."
Just don't count on the sequel getting the same kind of recognition. It's not good. At all. Even John Goodman couldn't save the movie. Just stick to the original.
