Calling All Fans Of Avatar: The Last Airbender!!!

Postby steenajack » Thu Jul 15, 2010 11:59 pm

I have some great, wonderful, imortant, and absolutely spectacular news for every single Avatar: The Last Airbender fan out there. Check out the links:

Wikipedia:

In the News (They are a bit older, but relavent to the topic):

http://www.ugo.com/tv/new-avatar-the-last-airbender-series-possibilities

Last week, we brought word of a rumored new Airbender series -- Avatar: The Legend of Korra -- thinking, "hey, Avatar fans will really get a kick out of this!" Instead it opened up a world of questions from the dedicated followers of the animated epic.

Here's what we know so far -- according to the folks at Avatar: The Last Airbender Online (and thusly confirmed in an interview with Racebending.com), The Legend of Korra will take place 100 years down the road from the current continuity, focusing on Korra, a Waterbender who will be trained by Aang. Original series creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko will be on board to helm the new series, but other than that, we're still waiting on when and where the new series will be officially announced (one would assume San Diego Comic-Con, but Dimartino told Racebending.com he hoped it would be sooner), as well as the details.

After posting our original story, the comments blew up with some pretty solid questions, for instance:

* How can there be two Avatars? Does this mean Aang has died and will be Korra's Spirit Guide (a la what Roku was to Aang)?
* Will we learn the future of Aang? Did he wind up settling down with Katara? Did they have a family?
* What will be the main conflict this time around?
* And lastly, how much of this can really be believed? After all, no one has gone on record with any hard facts (short of the title of the series, which has been confirmed)?

Some interesting queries for sure, and certainly some conversation/debate starters. That "comment" option is down there for a reason, Airbender fans -- let's hear what you have to say!

http://www.ugo.com/tv/avatar-legend-of-korra-details-at-comic-con
We've only got an official schedule for the first day and already this year's San Diego Comic-Con is on course to completely shutdown the Internet with breaking news and announcements - and we're hoping one of them is related to a just-shy-of-officially-confirmed new Airbender animated series.

Our comrades over at Avatar: The Last Airbender Online have compiled all known information about the rumored series titled Avatar: Legend of Korra, which is believed to take place one-hundred years after The Last Airbender and focus on the titular female Waterbender, who Aang would take under his wing.

According to Airbender Online, series creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko are on board. The only question remaining is when and **ahem"" where the new series will be announced. The logicial conclusion is SDCC. Dimartino and Kinietzko recently told Racebending an official announcement would "hopefully" come sooner than Comic-Con but we're getting awfully close.

What do you think Airbender fans? Are you ready to meet the girl who would be the new Avatar?

So.....What do you guys have to say about this? I know I'm excited. MORE AVATAR SERIES!!!!

Exciting news, all-around! They commented that Korra was a water bender, then turned around and speculated on her being the Avatar. I'm thinking maybe that won't be the case? Maybe she's legitimately just a water bender.

I could be (and likely am) completely off, though.

Since Aang started out thinking he was 'just and airbender', it's entirely possible that Kora could start out as just a waterbender... until someone told her that she was the Avatar and started training her.

Though I honestly wonder about her being Aang's student- all the benders were shown to live out their lives with normal lifespans, and 100 years later would mean that Aang would be pretty darn old.

Since it's called "Avatar: The Legend of Korra" and Avatar: TLA was known as "Avatar: The Legend of Aang" in other countries, it might be safe to assume that we're dealing with a new Avatar.

I've known about this for a few weeks now and there are some pretty interesting theories out there. My favorite has to be that the world is getting to a point where the Avatar isn't important anymore, whether that be through technology or other circumstances. They already did a war story, so hopefully the conflict will be something else. Also, if it's really taking place 100 years in the future, that means no airbenders (if they're all really dead, which I don't think they are, lol. But then again, it'd be kind of lame if they weren't 'cause it would deaden a good chunk of Aang's character development). No airbenders would make it very difficult for a new Avatar to learn airbending, and if Aang is dead then it would be near impossible. Of course, Aang could always end up like Bumi and be super old or something.

Also, I don't like the possibility of the original characters being dead. It makes me sad. :(

Of all the directions they could've gone in to make a new series, they're going with one I would've liked the least. Anything about one of the past Avatars would be awesome, or something that takes place a few years later so the characters are a little older. Oh well. I have confidence that the new series is going to be good.

Just to play Devil's advocate, regardless of what they did with the plot, they'd pretty much have to add that title on there for advertising reasons - just to tie the show in to the previous series.

SWEET!!!! I have been waiting for something from the creators of Avatar for a while now! This is awesome. I can't wait. I like the concept...very interesting. The only thing I would worry about is the fear of it being a rehash of last airbender just with different characters. Though, with how stellar the writing was on the previous series I can't imagine this one being bad.

I am also wondering how this new series will pan out. Aang would be really old by 100 years down the road and couldn't be alive if this girl is the new Avatar (reincarnation cycle, and all.)

I'm interested to see what happens, as more news about this comes out. I wonder what the plot of the story will be.

I would also like to hear how the original characters' lives turned out after the events in the first series. What happened next?
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I'm curious about what happened next for the original characters. Such as
what happened to Zuko's mom? And what about Toph and her parents?
Yah, I was kinda worried when they said it would take 100 years into the future. I wanted to see more of the Aang Gang....still, this series may be very good no less. ;3!

That would be cool.

Yeah, but what about the action, I loved the fighting, they have too keep that.

There could be airbenders, they could be Aang's descendants, (reading too much into things) Since genetically airbending seems to be a dominant trait, unlike water or earthbending (fire too?), therefore most of Aang and Kataraa's kids would be airbenders. So if Aang and Katara have a bunch of kids and they are all airbenders, then they have a bunch of kids (each), a hundred years later there could be hundreds of airbenders with out undercutting Aang's character development, though we'll likely only see four tops.

However, no sky bison unless, ether Appa lives for ever, or they found a Mrs. Appa in some other iceberg.:forehead: Which would be ridiculous.

Also, I don't like the possibility of the original characters being dead. It makes me sad. :(

Me too.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing what they do with this. I hope it's really good, though they have quite an act to follow, don't they?

I've watched most of Season 1 so far. It started off a little weak but grew into something much better rather quickly. I enjoy the humour, action and fun of the series. In Australia, it's called Avatar: The Legend of Aang.

*crosses fingers* I was hoping they would focus more on Aang, but I guess I don't mind a new avatar, so long as the plot is believable when compared to the previous series.

I like where this is going a lot. Steampunk Avatar was among my favorite theories of those I read and it's cool that's Korra confirmed as a female waterbender and the next Avatar. Since she's a teenager, this new series will likely be a bit more mature than the previous one.

It might not have existed in his time. If the world is more technologically advanced in this new series, then a city like this could've been built more quickly.
