Kaleido Star and Comic Party??

Postby blue elf » Mon May 03, 2004 8:39 pm

I saw the first eps. of each one on dvds from Newtype and liked them both. I've read reviews for the first 2 Comic Party dvds at animeondvd.com, but I was wondering have any of you seen these series and what are your opinions? Reccommend or not?

I highly recommend Kaleido Star. It was produced by Gonzo, and there's a quality in the art and story flow that is only done by Gonzo. I've seen the first disc, and was impressed at how clean, i.e., meaning no cussing or fan service, it was. There is one thing I must warn you about, if it would be a problem for you, and that is the spirit of the stage, Fool, who appears for Sora's eyes only. He's a little statue who speaks to her, because she's been chosen as a performer to do this fantastic aerobatic manuever, that no one can do. He is the comic relief in the series, but also, he uses tarot cards to predict the future, of which Sora can change by what she does.

So, I'm not sure how you feel about Fool using the cards, but other than that, it has very endearing characters. Sora is both tough and sweet, determined and a likable main protagonist. Her friends and the secondary characters all have personalities that you want to understand, and not feel, "oh there's that character again, someone shoot him." So all in all, it's a great series, of which we're planning on buying.

On Comic Party, my daughter bought that series, and it's a crack up, yet with an interesting heart. If you love manga, drawing manga, or reading manga, it's a great anime to watch. I think it's a 13 and up, because there might have been a small amount of language. Other than that, I don't remember anything bad. It's very funny, though, and if you like anime that makes you bust out laughing this is worth a buy. I think Rev.Doc and myself wrote a more in depth review on another thread about Comic Party in this section, you'd have to find it, but it's here in the Anime section of CAA somewhere. ^_^

I prefer Kaleido Star out of the two of these, but I'm sure I'll buy both, since they're both very clean and have fun stories.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Here's the link to the previous Comic Party thread: http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=7339

I'm also intrigued by this series, but I think I'll wait for the boxed set that will be released in July.

Comic Party is good. Very funny.

Kaleido Star is one that I have read a number of reviews on which pointed to it being a good series. In fact I just sent off an order today and volume 1 is on it. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for the info Miss Chloe.

Is Kaleido Star realeased in its entirity? Sounds really cool. Is the only bad stuff language and so tarot card usage?
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Man, am I behind. I couldn't help it. I wanted to rent the first volume before I committed to buying anything. But yeah, I'm definitely buying Kaleido Star. The series has been released up to volume 3 I think. Another volume is supposed to come this month and another next month. I'll do some quick researching and check back with y'all. Oh! I hope they make it a box set!

I've only seen their Newtype previews so far, but I definately got a favorable impression of them both.
