Hmmm...My favorite art styles...I love Evangelion's stlye, especially the manga. aBE's stuff is good. Nadesico has great char art...Not the manga though.

Basicly most all the art in the Animatrix really gets on my nervs...Except a Detective's Story. Which has great art.

I like the art in shows like Excel Saga, Super GALS! and Rurouni Kenshin. I don't like the art in Reign.

And it varies greatly with shows that the art is in between. ;)

I like Hikaru no Go, Rurouni Kenshin, and for manga I like the way Nanaji Nagamu (Parfait Tic) draws, except how she does profiles. But otherwise I really love her art. Umm... I don't like styles where the guys have small heads and really wide shoulders (Like in Marmalade Boy, although I enjoy the story). I like most shoujo-styles, though. Cutesy animals don't bother me (not since Azumanga Daioh! XD), but it really depends on the animal. I mean, as long as they aren't cute-ifying horses or wolves, I'm ok.

As for pretty animation, I think .hack//SIGN has some gorgeous animation and manages CG effects well. For bad animation I'd have to say Yu Yu Hakusho - even though it's an older anime, sometimes it's badly drawn. I like the art style, just sometimes it seems like the anime could have been drawn better.

I absolutly love the art style in Mahoromatic the most.:thumb:
I like the crazy/cartoonish styles like in FLCL to, and the more realistic anime styles as well.

But I dont care for the overly realistic art styles, or anything that focuses a lot on muscles, i.e. stuff like Marvel comic's style.

I cant stand the artwork in Rein/anun flex/world record ect.

I also dont really care too much for the powerpuf/dexter/samuri jack style either, but I can tolerate it.

CG stuff doesnt bother me too much, I liked BlueSub 6 and most of Gonzo's other works, but it does take some adjusting to.

I suppose it depends on the anime's theme. For more humorous anime, I really like TRIGUN's style, although it worked for seriousness well. For serious, I'd definitely prefer Cowboy Bebop's style. I think we all wish we could draw like that.
I also like Dual!'s style, and it's good overall. Tenchi's style is also a good, simple style. Samurai Jack's style is great, but I don't wholly like what they do with it (too silly).

As for dislike...I really don't like FLCL's style. It's as messed up as the show. I really like most styles, there aren't a ton of bad ones.

Hmm, no one seems to have taken the bait Gypsy. Maybe they just had more pride-banana, cherry.

As for waht I do like? I'm not big into remembering names, etc of artists or whatnot, but I really liked the artwork in RahXephon[bot all the artbooks cept the black and white import sketchbook] and Gasaraki. I loved Big O[and also, even tho not anime, the whole animated batman\beyond styel. i just love those jutting chins-all men should be that over the top masculine. i sure wish i was]

As for what i don't like? 70-80' stuff. I am finishing up Robotech, and no offense, but man, the art makes me want to laugh. Also, Miyazaki rendering of the human body: it is way too real! I watch anime for pointy ears\noses, slanty eyes, improbable hair styles\colors, etc, not to watch some schlock like me :)

Rrgh. It's JHONEN VASQUEZ!! Sheesh. I actually like the style. Probably my most favorite style though is that of Program from the Animatrix. If there more of that stuff, I'm sure it would sell like hotcakes. Just...awesome looking animation. I hate shojo/bishojo or w/e style. Anything of that sort is *BLEH*

I like the old-school Tezuka art style a lot.
I also love the Go Nagai stuff, just because of how horrifyingly ugly all of the characters are.
I really love the way the FLCL manga was drawn.

As for dislike...hm...

Actually, there aren't any animation styles that I dislike.

I dislike Reign: The Conqueror. I can't stand Peter Chung Character Designs and art style. But I knew that Reign was going to be bad, since Petter was the one that made Aeon Flux and I couldn't stand the art in it too.

Another art style that I don't like is, 3D cel shading, like Appleseed.

Another dislike art style is the art in Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea (the movie) I have mix feelings for the art work in it. I love the cute art style in Escaflowne TV, but I felt they just kill the movie by making the the art style too dark and moody.

Dislike: DBZ (=X sorry DBZ fans), Reign (eeew), and...I don't remember the title of this one exactly but it was something along the likes of Baki the Grappler. x_X;

Dislike: Escaflowne's manga art style. that was SO HORRIBLE compared to the anime! I also despise any Japanese animator who tries to go 'American' in their style. Ick.

:wow!: You really hate them? I love the way they're drawn. I can't describe it but I love it. The eyes can be big like alot of anime but not nearly as much as most. I'd have to say that style as well as that of Samurai X are my favorites. Both have incredible animation and I love the styles.
As for ones I don't like, I can't seem to think of any anime really, but I can think of a whole bunch for American cartoons.

Oh boy. Where do I start. Actually I have yet to meet with an anime style I don't like. The only exeption is the older animes from the 80s and before. Some of them are good but for the most part I preffer the more modern styles.

Anyway my favorite style would probobly have to be Stellvia right now. That show has the most beautiful artwork and style I have yet to see in an anime. I really like Gundam Seeds style. R-Kenshin is good to especially the movies. Clamps animes, Chobits and Angelic Layer also have exeptional artwork.

My least favorite style would probobly be DBZ. No offense to DBZ fans but I don't care for the style much.

Stuff that turns me OFF:

- Crud that looks like flash animation. (Samurai Jack, Powerpuff Girls)
- 'Ugly' style stuff: SpongeBob, Ren/Stimpy, Rugrats.
- Chee-ZEE 3d shaded stuff built up from primitive shapes: Bob the Builder.

OK so most of that isn't anime. So specifically within anime, mostly what does it is eye design for me. But anyways:
- Baby-headed characters like in DBZ and Akira.
- Ghibli/Miyazaki. Smells too much like Disney. At least one character looks age 6 - 10 and his or her head is shaped like a pear or a potato.
- Shoujou stuff where eyes look like spinning CD-ROMs. (Gakuen Alice Kodocha, Kotobuki Ran.)
- A certain style of eyes in which the perimeter is very round and the iris is mostly dark, especially if the characters mostly brood or mope about: Kenshin Samurai X/Seishounen, Haibane Renmei, FLCL, Lain, Abenobashi Shoutengai, PlanetES. I just don't like the eyes.
- Bo^7 (Bo to the seventh power is Bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo.)
- Characters approaching 11 heads tall: Utena, old Starblazers Harlock, and that Whatchamacallit-5555 to Daft-Punk
- Mecha-robot-assembly and 5-colored senshi teams. As cheezy as their live action counterparts! Stop it!
- Lupin III, Yawara, Urusei Yatsura.
- Initial D, Zi Pang, and Yakitate Japan.
- ALL cats and most catgirls.
- Shows which are mostly or all-chibi: Hamtaro, Mini Goddesses, Bottle Fairy, Tenshi ni Narumon, those half-sheep CG critters.
- Spikey-haired dweebs when there are few cool-lookin' long-haired characters (male or female) around to balance things out.
- Those elfy looking kiddies in Advent Children.
- Scruffy, low res shonen: Naruto and One Piece.

Stuff I LOVE:
- Beautifully rendered CG ships of the line in 'Last Exile' and 'Raimuiro Senkitan.' LOVE that 1890's - 1920's look!
- 5-sided and 6-sided eye designs of the mid-90's to present: AMS, Tenchi, Battle Athletes, Noir, .hack//Sign, Madlax. Gatekeepers and GK-21. Crest/Banner of the Stars.
- Certain rounded, arched eye designs like Stellvia, Love Hina, Vandread, Azumanga Daioh.
- Detailed Jidaigekki stuff: Hakkenden, Kai-Doh-Maru, Harukanaru Toki no naka de Hachiyoushou, Otogizoushi (the first half.) Some Basilisk characters too. Hundred Stories. Milleniem Actress. Bleach too!
- Starship Operators. Except for the sleazy smoker, loved the character designs. The ships and strategy was a little lame, though.
- Gankutsuou. No one should need drugs - watch this eye-candy instead. Bizarre, Baron Munchenhausen/Time Bandits sort of backdrops, and the weird way people's clothing moved. the pattern stays still as the charachter moves about. BTW, the book is STILL better!
- Scryed, and the jewel-like eye designs of Kiddy grade.
- Great police uniform details in Silent Mobius. SNappy seifukus in Mai-Hime
- That one angelic-looking character with the double halo and the eastern-looking balls of flame in quadrature on the halo; she's in Aquarian Age.
- Long, McDonald's-arch sized pigtails: Hoshino Ruri (Nadesico OVA) Sakajikawa Eri (School Rumble) and Triella (Gunslinger Girls.) Long enough to be used as lateral control surfaces when running or tumbling down stairs.
- Hair bangs that go 'pweep!' - School Rumble! (Much cleaner than Mahoromatic, which I bailed out on within the 1st ep.)

I can barely stand Ai Yazawa art (Nana). Guys' necks aren't that thick, and their ears aren't that small and their shoulders aren't that broad. Get some art lessons, please. Draw some one attractive.

I love the style used in Rurouni Kenshin. It's totaly stylized art but characters really don't look that improbable. They don't have eyes that look like "spinning CD-ROMS (heh)" and it's very clean, and doesn't look like it was all sketch out.
Cowboy Bebop anime is the coolest. The characters are still realistic but still stylized.

Some Shoujo eyes are cool. Tanemura's and Yoshizumi's are my favorties so far. But like I said, Yazawa is bleh. CLAMP's older manga always ahve drawn me in. Like Wish or X/1999. I dunno. It just looks cool.

I'm not the biggest fan of total chibi-ness. Hamtaro is cute but, eh.

So in the end I like good art over crappy art.

I like the "old-school shonen look where a lot of the guys have super-long bangs and spiky hair, and when a guy has a scar going across one eye, or hair over one eye, tha's cool! Ummm, the best example I can come with is Macross, man, Roy Fokker's hair was awesome.

The kind I really can't stand is the "flowery shoujo"-type stuff, the kind where the guys look really girly, and freakishly skinny with super-long necks, and they look stoned all the time, and the girls usually aren't cute at all. that style just bugs me.

Well, yeah, that's my two cents.

Let's see...

I love the art styles in shows like Bebop, Trigun, and Ruroken. However, I think the Rurouni manga (latter volumes, I don't like Watsuki's early styles) does a much better job with the art than the TV show did, since the style seemed to kind of...change in mid-Kyoto Arc.

I loved CLAMP's artwork in Magic Knight Rayearth (manga), but I was a tad dissapointed by how messy the style had become in Tsubasa Chronicle, even though I do love that series.

Gundam Seed's art style was good, but I didn't like how flat and boring it seemed to be. I guess it just wasn't really detailed? I dunno, but it didn't appeal to me, hah!

I like the art in the FLCL anime, buuuut....Haha, I don't know how long I could read the manga! The art is like...scribbles...but, I guess that kind of fits for FLCL. Haha!

And then there's One Peice. Uuughghgh, I hate the art in One Piece! Hahaha! It's just too...not...good...in my opinion, at least.

Anyways, I think my VERY favorite art style is found in Air. That anime is so gorgeous!! Everything is SO perfect, and the same goes for Full Moon wo Sagashite, even though I definitely like the manga's art better than the anime. MGLN's art style is really cute, too! I guess I'm a bigger fan of the shoujo styles, even though I do like several of the shounen styles, too. n.n
