It's sad, too, that...

*sigh* I've given up on buying anime... dvds these days are just too expensive! I hope you manage to get it, though.

In my Target (live in SF Bay Area) there are Fruit Basket DVDs for about $20. There isn't much of a selection (where I live there are only Chobits, Yugioh, Fruit Basket and DBZ), but it's a lot cheaper than the usual $30.

It's a great series. What's nice is that its 26 episodes are spread out over 4 DVDs instead of 7, which makes collecting the whole series a lot easier.

MUST...have...second...season...of...FRUITS BASKET!!!

Hyper, aren't you? And for once I understand the "lubb" since I remember my Japanese...for once...repetitive words...ah man. CRCT does have an effect on you...anyway, for anyone who doesn't, there is no 'v' in Japanese. It is said as 'b'...meaning 'luvv' would be 'lubb'.

Anyway, those two friends of Tohru's...are they lesbian? Is it hinted at? I remember reading about a hinted homosexual relationship somewhere...I think it was in a review.

Having seen the series...

Does the show ever outright say there are lesbian or gay relationships? No.

Could you read into it and gather the same information? Maybe. It's like a lot of other anime titles...you could read into it and derive all kinds of nasty stuff if you really, really looked. But if you take it at face value, it's not really there. Yeah there's some weird characters (I'm thinking of Ayame at the moment) but there is no outright declarations of anything.

Hmm...really, I should read into it before asking here. But do research online for anything concerning Anime is delicate...there's some bad stuff out there. And I'm afraid of spoiling the show for myself. I'm on the second volume of manga, and I haven't finished it yet. Sry, though.

No, I'm not hyper. I would be but...so tired and I just got braces and I'm trying to finish a book review....But my LUBB comes from my "Korean accent"!! When I talk to my mommy I say, "I LUBB you mommy!!" instead of "I LOVE you mommy!!" because the Korean language doesn't have "V" either!! I guess Korean and Japanese are similar. Oooh, like "shin" and "jin". Shin means faith in Korean but it means trust in Japanese...or was it Chinese? Oh I don't know...!!

Oooooh, I LUBB you Shigure!! I lubb you soooooooooo much!!

Shin in Japanese means, 'heart, core; center'
(Ken means 'sword'...just using this as an example. Kenshin equals Heart of Sword)

No, they aren't lesbians. I don't want to spoil what happens in the manga after the anime, but basically we find out that Uotani Arisa has a definite interest. You could be sick and read Hana's concern for Tohru as lesbian love, but that'd be pushing it and I definitely don't think that's the case.

There is one character that's hinted at having had homosexual interests, and there are two characters who joke about it being gay, but they're almost certainly not, as they both have female interests. You can never take what these two say seriously...

It is an excellent series, that's for sure. I'm with SManBeyond - a second season would make me very happy, but at least they're translating the mangas!

Fruits Basket is my favorite anime of all time (I've seen it...4 times now I think) so I'm a little mini expert, plus I have friends who get the manga from Japan that I manage to squeeze information out of .

Yup Uotani does get a guy who likes her in the manga, I won't give anything away about him though, even though I really want to. Third, when asked if he would do a second season, the producer of Fruits Basket said "no." :bang: Jerk face. We can hope though, especially with the maga coming over here!

Ok now SManBeyond when you are talking about the two characters who joke about being gay I assume you mean Ayame and Shigure. Shigure has a girl? :eyebrow: Who? Unless you are referring to his silly little "high school girls" song.

I have the first manga and it's one of my favorites. According to my friend Elizabeth in England, it's the current "popular" manga/anime. Like Inuyasha here. Someone here let me borrow the second manga and I read half of it in one lunch period.
Well, from what I know of Shigure, he both teases and tries to help the people he really cares about. In this respect, I would count his editor as a potential interest, as he seems to get a little too much fun out of teasing her.

The girl I was referring to, however, is Shiraki Mayuko, Tohru's teacher. She and Shigure date each other for a while before she becomes Hatori's interest. It seems that Shigure cares for her in that he wants her to be happy, and thus he pairs up Hatori and herself. He also enjoys teasing her, such as in Chapter 71 when he accompanies Tohru as her guardian to a discussion about Tohru's future...
Oh yes! I new that. :hits_self Or maybe it's more like "I should have remembered that." How many chapters are there in the Fruits Basket manga anyway? Last I heard they had taken a break because the creator had gotten hurt or something, but maybe that was just a rumor.

It's still going. 91 chapters as of right now. Chapter 92 will be released in Japan on May 1.
