Yeah, I don't get the deal with the tunnel in the original...I like the new movie more but I like the Oompa Loompa songs from the 1st one.
"Who is this?" they said to Me
'That the wind and waves obey
Come, let's hang Him on a tree
That His reign should pass away'
But here I am I say to you
Though you turn away, it is My will
To love you for forevermore
Peace be still, peace be still

Fight Club comes off as the biggest example of this, and although I haven't seen it, I hear Ben-Hur is far better as a movie as well. Same with A Clockwork Orange. Same as book does not always a better movie make.

QFT. Novels are not holy and infallible. In fact some of them suck. XD So sometimes the movie is better than the book. Like The Green Mile. Not a bad book, but it works far better as a film. Also, I thought the V for Vendetta movie was way better than the comic (but that's just me).

Back on topic: The only problem I have with the old movie is the beginning. It kind of sucks. But once they get to the chocolate factory, it's all uphill.

As for the new one, am I the only one that was irritated by the Oompa Loompas (or should I say "Oompa Loompa" since they were all the same freaking guy)? I didn't like the way they executed that at all. The songs were bad and having one dude digitally duplicated 87 times just seemed (to me) like an excuse to say "HAY CHEK OUT KEWL SPESHUL EFECTS".

The songs in the new movie were just awful, but somehow they're superior because "they're truer to the book."

The "songs" in the book were...not suitable for a film adaptation. They were pretty long-winded and really more like poems than songs.

I'm gonna have to say that both versions have a special place in my heart. Even so... I did like Burton's take on Dahl's book. They're both about even in their own ways, but Burton's comes out just ahead.

I just saw this today.... it would easily win my vote for best version if it was a real movie...

To me, Gene Wilder was/is/always will be Willy Wonka. Depp did a great job in his portrayal of the character, but I think that Gene Wilder came the closest to the original book version of Wonka.

I read the title as Best Villains of Willy Wonka.

Now that would have been a thread worth posting in.

Yep. Mel Brooks makes pretty funny movies most of the time. Spaceballs will always be my favorite.
