OK, before this cow gets milked any further (funny though it is) . . .

I totally dig Asian horror. Ju-On (remade Stateside as The Grudge) scared the mess out of me. I need to rent Ju-On 2 sometime.

I'm afraid to see Ju-on. The grudge in america was kinda flaky in my opinion but the japanese version looks pretty intense.

Benn, either your grasp of human biological maturation is frighteningly tenuous at best, or you think the age function is a suggestion. In the spirit of Glasnost, I shall politely assume the latter.

And my favorite Asian film is Park Chan-Wook's Oldboy.

I watched the Korean movie My Wife is a Gangster 3 (조폭 마누라 3 - Jopog manura 3) and I loved it! It was so hilarious!

Now I want to watch the other two movies in the series.

I'm not as big into Asian cinema as you'd think, but I'm certainly open to the idea. The movie Moon Child amuses me greatly: J-rock vampires FTW.

MoonChild amuses me as well. It suprises me that they did't cast Gackt as the vampire since Gackt proclaims himself to be over 400 years old in real life. XD

Sheenar, that movie looks really fun. Thanks for mentioning it.. I'm gonna have to watch it.

I'm a fan of cinema just in general, but I took an asian cinema class that was a lot of fun back in college. It also introduced me to the wonders of Bollywood. Even if you don't think you'll care for the genre, check out Diwale Dulhania Lajengye (sp?). It's magical!

Toku movies count as Asian movies too! I really liked Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai, and Kamen Rider 555: Paradise Lost was pretty rad too. >.>

You have to realize that not all of us takes every thread seriously,

and that's always half the fun. As for Asian movies, have I got a list for you. :grin:

I'm a big fan of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, whom many Hollywood filmmakers (Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Sergio Leone, Quentin Tarantino, and others) consider to be one of the best. His best movies (that I've seen) include:
• The Seven Samurai (inspiration for Samurai 7, the Magnificent Seven, and to a lesser degree A Bug's Life). Possibly one of the best movies ever made.
• Yojimbo (Inspiration for Fistful of Dollars, as well as the abysmal Bruce Willis movie Last Man Standing)
• Sanjuro (sequel to the above-mentioned movie)
• Throne of Blood (a toned down, minimalistic samurai version of Macbeth)
• Kagemusha : A movie financed by George Lucas... of all people.

I'm also going to mention Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress because many people seem to like it; I tend to find it boring beyond words.

Another director I like is Park Chan Wook. He's best known for his ultra-violent but excellent revenge movie Oldboy, but he also directed a more thoughtful, much realistic and tragic story about the segregation between North and South Korea called J.S.A: Joint Security Agency which is also a pretty good movie.

Another Asian filmmaker is Jackie Chan, and I'm specifically going to ignore his work done in Hollywood because they're are considerably mediocre compared with his Hong Kong efforts like Project A, Armor of God, Operation Condor and many others.

Nate's post reminded me of the classic "man-in-suit" stuff. The Gamera movies are awesome. And King Kong vs. Godzilla. Best MIS movie ever.

I'm with Bigsleep on the Kurosawa movies. Great films.....Yojimbo is probably my favorite....great lines in that film. I've seen all those except for "Kagemusha" (it's on my Netflix). Another one to add to that list is "High and Low", which is an awesome Japanese film noir of sorts (at least, that's what it's described as).
The most recent Asian movie I've seen is about 10 years old.....it's called "Samurai Fiction". It's not the best movie, but it's a fun homage to older samurai movies (being filmed in 97% black and white), with music and acting by Tomoyasu Hotei (an awesome Japanese guitarist, "Battle Without Honor or Humanity").
I also really like Godzilla movies :-D

Ah yeah I forgot about Kurosawa films. I love them! Even though I've only seen two. Seven Samurai, and Hidden Fortress, both of which I loved. I tried to watch Yojimbo but maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it the day I watched it? I dunno I got like 20 minutes into it and I was like "This is kinda boring." So yeah.

Never take a guy who uses the word pre-pubesent seriously.

Especially when the only place he's ever heard the word was in a comic book titled "Mildly Pre-Pubesent Kung-Fu Gophers" (it's a real comic i swear!)

Also, what would you say is better... the anime series Samurai 7 or the movie The Seven Samurai?

I like Samurai 7, but Seven Samurai is an endlessly better. Indeed, Samurai 7 is at it's best when it distances itself from the original movie; when the series tries to recreate famous scenes (particularly dramatic scenes) it fails because it can't just top the raw power of some of the original performances, particularly Toshiro Mifune's Kukichiyo.

I've had to let myself get pulled in....give it a chance. The stories that are told in Kurosawa films are always worth it. I remember I felt sort of the same way the first time I watched "Sanjuro", but I gave it a chance and the second time I watched it I totally loved it.

Well, if you are into romantic comedies, you should watch Seducing Mr. Perfect. It's a Korean movie and really good ^^. The leading male (handsome, might I add) apparently is 'Agent Zero' in the upcoming Wolverine movie.

So far...I've loved just about every movie I've seen from Korea (granted I've only seen like...three...so yeah...). Old Boy...yeah...if you can handle the content watch it...that's all...

I have a lot of recent favorites by Akira Kurosawa. Donnie Yen is a recent favorite of mine who I really like. He has a lot of great fight scenes if you like Kung Fu movies. He did a real good movie called Yip Man, about the life of the grandmaster of Wing Chun Kung Fu.

Oh man, I watch tons of asian movies. There's a big soft spot in my heart for asian action and martial arts flix, not to mention asian romantic comedy.

The most recent asian movie I've watched was "Detriot Metal City" the live action version.
