Toei's Japanese Spider-man to air on Marvel.com

Marvel.com will be releasing a subtitled episode every Thursday of the show under the title "Japanese Spider-Man". Supaidaman was made back in 1978 by Toei with permission from Marvel and was very much in the vein of the Tokusatsu or Special-effects shows in its time like the original Kamen Rider, another Toei production. Supaidaman had an original story and had pretty much nothing to do with its American origins except for the name and the suit.

The story of Supaidaman is very 70's Tokusatsu about a motorcycle racer Takuya Yamashiro who is given the power to become Supaidaman and is able to control the spaceship "Marveller" that can transform into a giant robot named "Leopardon" to fight seek vengeance against the Iron Cross Army.

I want to see this very badly.

For those who haven't seen it, a bit of background is that this Spider-Man TV series is what started Super Sentai (localized as Power Rangers in America). There had been costumed superheroes and giant robots before, but the two had never been combined until Spider-Man. This is why the Sentai series Battle Fever J was classified as the first "Super" Sentai despite being the third of the series behind Goranger and JAKQ. It was the first to have a giant robot (not just vehicles).

This series is VERY cheesy. Extremely cheesy. Also disappointing is that apparently only a few episodes into the series, the suit for Leopardon was stolen or lost, and as such all the footage for it after the sixth episode or so is recycled footage.

Looking forward to this. I never thought I'd see an official sub of this series.

That made me laugh so hard.....I wanna see this. The best part was when the samurai cut the cat into.....talk about bizarre! My room mate and I watched it over and over because it was so funny.
