Metal Gear Series

Postby Tommy » Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:37 am

Haha Rocklobster. That's right. I beat you.
This poll belongs to me. :P

Anyways, due to the fact I just recently found out a friend of mine is going to lend me his PS3 so I can play Metal Gear Solid 4 in a couple of weeks, I was inspired to replay the Metal Gear games.

After re-experiencing the franchise, I am curious to see which Metal Gear game you guys prefer the most. I'm assuming most people would vote for MGS4 or 3, but it would be interesting to see if anyone favors a Metal Gear game moreso than MGS3 or 4.

So this thread is for discussions of plot, character, and advice on if someone's stuck.

Just a general warning, if you are stuck at a particular part of one of the MGS games, put your requests in spoiler bars even if aspects vital to the plot are revealed, just as a precaution.

Speaking of which, in Metal Gear 2 for the MSX (Ps2 release on Subsistence):
I reached the part where I'm supposed to meet a female soldier who stops in front of a restroom. I forget what to do because I recalled that she enters the restroom immediately but she continues to aimlessly walk around. Can someone help me?
So let's get this thread started for one of the best franchises ever crafted.

I voted Snake Eater, but I seriously adored Gun Of The Patriots.

Snake Eater. Maybe I'll expound later.

And Portable Ops + was just so dumb.

I had to vote Snake Eater. The End boss fight was the most awesome thing ever.

Why's Portable Ops + dumb? It's just for online play. Speaking of which, I gotta get back to playing it. I lost Old Snake :{

The Ac!ds are a lot of fun too, even if they can frustrate me to no end. I still don't understand how the bad guys get 5 turns each before I can finally move again D:< RPG, turned based type things aren't my forte, but I love 'em.

Portable Ops + Is dumb because they took Portable Ops off the shelves of like every store and put + instead... when + doesn't even have the original storyline.

I don't know why they took the original game out...

*scratches head* I dunno... I have both games.

So they took Portable Ops off the shelves real quick and put out the expansion?

Yes. I think most stores simply thought that Portable Ops + had the original story, so they quickly swapped it...

I had to buy the game online to get the actual game, as every single store (to this day even!) only carries Portable Ops +.

lol, I had no idea. I got all my PSP crap from Amazon anyway, seeing as how the nearest place to buy video game stuff was three hours away.

Yeah, I had that problem.
I got the plus version by accident because the price sticker covered the word "Plus."
However, the next day, I found a copy of the normal version after digging for like an hour and got it for four bucks so I kept plus.
Haven't touched it though.

It's already the best one.

Metal Gear Solid. Short, yes. But it was drop dead gorgeous on the PSX. Sniper Wolf still wins as saddest moment in the whole series.

Snake Eater at a very close second. (Still getting through it on my first play through)

MGS4... I think the story in MGS3 was slightly better, but MGS4 was a much better playing game, and the story was still really good, and wrapped everything up quite nicely.

1. MGS4
2. MGS3
3. MGS2
4. MGS1
5. Portable ops
6. MG2
7. MG1

So, except for portable ops (which was still awesome, mind) I've liked each new game better than the last.

Yes.

Yes you are.

Acid, Acid 2, Snake's Revenge, and even Ghost Babel aren't canon (though I hear Ghost Babel has some canon things in it, don't know as I never played it, the game itself isn't)

Not knocking you for enjoying it, though. I'm sure there are Higurashi fans who are really going to enjoy Rei, and I enjoy some of the Naruto fillers... Oh, and I'm actually quite fond of the episode of Sailormoon R with the dinosaur in it.

Ac!d can be very fun, and while it's not connected to the main series, it works as a side story.
I'd obviously much rather be playing Portable Ops when I have my PSP but Ac!d can be very enjoyable.

I'm not sure which game I played through more times, Sons of Liberty or Resident Evil 4, but both are up there at the top of my most replayed along with Megaman X3.

I voted Snake Eater though.

I recently (6-7 months back, so not really recent, but close enough) bought the Metal Gear Collection. I promptly played through MGS (enjoyed it, wasn't overly taken by it though), played through Substance (very much enjoyed the additional parts to the cutscenes and the other extras), and have yet to get around to playing Subsistence.

And sadly I have no PS3 so I can't play MGS4. I went over to a friend's house to play it one day and instead we played Sould Calibur 4 lol.
