Heroes Producers Fired

NBC's Heroes fired co-executive producers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb, who had been with the show since its first season, on Nov. 2 in a surprise shakeup, Variety reported.

Sci Fi channel wrote:The two were known to have led the day-to-day production operation under the direction of creator/executive producer Tim Kring, the trade paper reported.

Heroes has struggled in the ratings in its third season. It's understood that Alexander and Loeb were let go because of the network's frustration with the creative direction of the show, the trade paper reported. The show is also said to have been grappling with hefty budget overruns this season, which are going well beyond its already sizable $4 million per-episode price tag.

Representatives for NBC and Universal Media Studios, which produces the show, declined to comment to Variety. (NBC and Universal Media are owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.)

As a Heroes fan, you'd expect me to be bummed by this news.

I'm not. I'm hoping this decision will hasten the demise of this wretched monstrosity of a show that should have ended with its first season.

Well, in a word, I'd describe the series as "wallowing" – as what a pig does in mud.

It seems to me, new characters are only added so established “bad guys” can kill them with out reducing the main cast so the “good guys” can continue getting nothing accomplished.

They aren’t even doing a very good job of what “classic” heroes do – that is simply defend and maintain the status quo.

Perhaps this will be a good change for the show.

Jeph Loeb...maybe he should just stick to working with Tim Sale on Batman comics.

Naturally, this happens just after I start watching and get caught up with the current season. For those of you keeping closer tabs on this, do we actually know what this means for the continued program at all?

I believe they replaced them with Bryan Fuller--but don't quote me on that.

@Termyt: Yes, it seems that there is actually very little heroism in Heroes. Maybe Tim Kring was aiming for an ironic title. Or maybe because "X-Men" or "Watchmen" were already taken.

Well, as they say, we get the Heroes we deserve.

Too bad Tim Sale is busy working on *drumroll* Heroes.
