I'm pretty sure its not illegal to post pics off websites as long as you dont take credit for them.

It is definatly not illegal to post pictures cos it comes under the "Fair Use" policy in copyright laws :)

I read something in the copyright website http://www.copyright.gov today that basically said fair use is a very vague subject not included in the original laws governing copyright laws, but exists only in court cases... Sorta like "separation of church and state" except that the latter has constitutionally violating connotations to it when it it is used in most cases...

That is, of course, only for the US... It's different in other countries...

Anyhow, Gainax has been known to hunt down people using eva pictures and sue their tails off... Well, that's what I've read anyhow... I was wrong one other time in life...

i emailed them about that quite a long time ago, when i was making my site dedicated to Evangelion. they linked to a FAQ informing i could use only certain images. and yes, they are the most common images you can find around. the fact is if it's not used deliberately for commercial uses, and especially if it's just stored in the computer for private use (face it, all the images i have could have been scanned off all my merchandises anyway, just that i don't have a scanner [edit] i realised i do have a scanner. just haven't used it for a while.) would be acceptable on Fair Use Rights. it's still vague though, so if they want to discuss this matter they can happily do that with me. although if i were in their positions i wouldn't start sueing; i'd start advertising about newer products for LorentzForce to buy. i think they'd get more profit that way...
