Saddest moments in Anime (there are bound to be spoilers)

Postby CDLviking » Fri Apr 02, 2004 10:46 pm

What do you think the saddest moments in Anime are? What are the real tear jerkers for you?

Cowboy Bebop
When Faye watches the video of herself saying, "Don't lose me," when in fact she has lost her from her memory. Then when she leaves the Bebop to go home and there's nothing left.
Now and Then, Here and There
When Shu stops Sara from killing her child.
When Boo and Soon die.
When Lala Ru fades away while she asks Shu if they can watch another sunset someday.
Tenchi
When Ryoko "dies" after helping Tenchi get to the palace to rescue Ayeka.
Those are the big ones for me.

"Haibane Renmei" is a very sad-toned anime all around. The ending left me with a great sense of hope, and it has a few cute comedic moments, but mostly, the anime is very wistful in tone.

Saddest moments:
Episode 6[The end of Episode 6 where the Haibane girls go out to the woods after Kuu took her Day of Flight... and Rakka finds her cold halo and scattered feathers on the old shrine. Then poor Reki looks up and says *Everyone leaves me.*

Episode 7[Where Rakka is cleaning Kuus abandoned room. That's just sad.
Episode 8. This doesn't need a spoiler. The whole episode is sad. I'll just say that.

Then, of course, the Trigun spoiler heard around the world:
Wolfwood's death in Episode 23 along with his confession. The first time I watched I cried more over Episode 24 because Vash and Milly were so sad over loosing him and were crying. Episode 25 is also very sad with Vash having to come to terms with having killed Legato.
I'm too lazy to write spoilers, so I'll just name the anime titles:

Here and There, Now and Then
Grave of the Fireflies
A Tree of Palme

This one isn't anime, but it's Japanese so I'll include it:

The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Same with technomancer, i don't think i have enough strength left to fuss with the spoiler tags, lol (attending anime conventions tend to take a lot from me XD) :

-Haibane Renmei
-Fushigi Yuugi
-Flame of Recca / Rekka no Honou (i thought i was going to burst into tears right then and there)
-Ayashi no Ceres (some scenes from the manga...they didn't give them much emphasis in the anime)
-Ghost in the Shell: Stand-alone Complex (the scene lasted less than 3 seconds, but it was enough to move me)
-Klonoa (ok, it's a Japanese game, not anime, but the ending was still very touching)

i'm certain i'm forgetting something (or maybe i'm just hardhearted, lol). i'll come back when i remember.
*Insert witty saying here*

I completely forgot my Trigun moments.

Other than what has already been said
Lost July, when she realizes that it was Vash who comforted her after July had been destroyed

Out of Time, when Brad dies and he looks at his hands and remembers how small they used to be compared to Vash who hasn't aged at all. The AMV to the song Eden makes this moment even sadder.
Here are mine, the ones that really made me cry or got me misty-eyed:

Rurouni Kenshin
When Kenshin says goodbye to Kaoru to go to Kyoto and face Shishio; and when Kenshin slowly breaks down and finally dies in Reflections.
Vandread
When Shirley, Bart's little friend, dies, and Bart really takes it HARD.
Fushigi Yuugi
When Nuriko dies
Now and Then Here and There -- most of the things that have to do with Sara, poor girl.

Texhnolyze -- it's too sad to spoil at all, especially since I don't think anyone here knows this anime yet. ^^

Haibane Renmei
Kou leaves them, and Rakka goes depressed
Gundam Wing
Heero says goodbye to Relena, smiling at her and finally accepting his feelings for her, before fighting Zechs at the end of series
And that one for Cowboy Bebop you keep mentioning.

There are a few others I'm probably forgetting right now.

Here are mine:

Trigun-
When Wolfwood dies in episode 23, and in an earlier episode (I'm not quite sure which one) where Vash is remembering how he and everyone else got to the planet, and Rem sacrifices herself to save all the people on the ship
Vision of Escaflowne-
When Folken dies (I think it's either episode 23 or 24) and before Hitomi keeps having visions of him dying and she warns him of it. He goes and confronts Dornkirk anyway, and then dies exactly like in Hitomi's vision. Far away at battle Van (his younger brother) feels that Folken is dead.
Fruits Basket-
When Tohru visits the main house to speak with Hatori and accidentally transforms him, then there is the whole flashback about his fiancee and how Hatori had to erase her memory, and she never knew how in love they were
And the response

And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
