Soul Eater

Postby Momo-P » Sat Aug 23, 2008 2:47 am

Recently started watching this and was quite surprised at how good it was. Has anyone else seen it/heard about it? The best thing I can use to describe it is like...

Bleach meets Shaman King meets FMA meets The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Plus a character with great importantance actually is a Christian later on (which seems to suggest that God and Jesus are ultimate authority in this world), but that doesn't explain why the Grim Reaper still exists (not to mention why he has a son). Basically it won't win the award for being the most religiously accurate, but then again it's just entertainment too. ^^;

Either way, I found it to be fun and just want to see what anyone else thinks?

It has really good animation and I'm definitely enjoying the style. I've also picked up the manga. I'm starting to wonder about how the rest of the anime is going to be paced and how it's going to end though.

It's a fun series. I'm sure plenty of people are put off by the heavy Halloween theme of the whole thing, but having a basic Good vs. Evil plotline, even in a distinctly non-Christian scenario, tends to redeem a show for most Christian fans.

None of the good guys are sugar sweet or perfect. They're just humans, with faults and troubles (even if they're apparently not actual humans. I have the sense that both 'Meisters' and 'Weapons' are more low-level Shinto-style 'kami' than human.) The bad guys, though, are truly bad. We don't bother trying to understand them. They're agents of Evil. If I just want to be entertained, that's the way to go.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

I was watching Soul Eater, but my laptop died and I had to reformat, so I lost all my eps. I really enjoyed what I saw, so I really need to get back on downloading the eps again. Beautiful art style, though - probably the best I've seen from any anime.

I've been keeping up with it. It had slow start, but it's quite enjoyable once it gets going. Although, I really hope they don't insert any more Excalibur filler episodes...

Okay, if the Soul Eater you guys are talking about and the Soul Eater I've been watching/reading are the same......(Which it prolly is)

Isn't the fanservice a LITTLE overboard? 0_o
Just wondering...

But, I do like the art style.
I personally like the story also.

1000% agreed. The original with Kid and Black Star was rather hilarious, but once the plot got going, I didn't want any filler type episodes.

Well I don't read the manga (probably will though since they're bringing it to the US in October), but...eh. I dunno.

The first three or four episodes of the anime were the worst IMO. It was a classic case of "new series, so we better show fanservice to hook them". After that though? I...haven't seen much at all. Blair wears a top that reveals some cleavage around episode 16 or so, but I'm a girl so it really doesn't phase me. The only time it'd really bother me is if the fanservice was constant, but thankfully it's quite low compared to some shows I've seen. ._.

If anything, Black Star's stupid "I WILL SURPASS GOD!" speech is what irritates me more. He's only said it a few times, but every time he does it, it's just one of those "ya, ya, ok, moving along" moments. I understand he does it because he's suppose to be overly confident and all about himself, but it's still irritating to listen to. Thankfully he has some redeeming qualities about his character, so I don't totally hate him, but Kid's definitely my all-time favorite though.
