Favorite non-Gundam Giant Robot anime

Postby rocklobster » Thu Aug 21, 2008 6:39 pm

When it comes to giant robots, most anime fans think of Gundam. But there are other giant robot anime that have nothing to do with Gundam. So, what's your favorite Giant Robot anime that has nothing to do with Gundam? Mine are:
Rahxephon
Code Geass
Voltron
Big O

Escaflowne is good, even if it doesn't count. Other than that, all I can think of is Full Metal Panic. Though, I haven't seen many giant robot save for the Gundam series.

I haven't seen many mecha shows nor many Gundam series for that matter, but I think I'd say I enjoyed Eureka Seven the most.

You mean there's Giant Robot anime that's not a part of Gundam!? ^__~

Code Geass, Eureka Seven, and Towards The Terra but I don't think that's really a "mecha". Voices Of A Distant Star was great.

Though awesome, TTGL is far too derivative of older series. I'm not surprised it wasn't mentioned.

Full Metal Panic! for sure. XD And Eureka's 7 good as well... I feel like I'm forgetting a lot of series(s? D:) but it might just be because there's so many Gundam ones. XD Uh... if Gunbuster 2 counts, from what I've seen of it, it's pretty awesome. >___>;

...seriously, am I forgetting others!? XD I feel like there's more asides from the ones that've been posted. D; Oh, silly Gundam for taking over the mech side of my mind. ),:

I'm sure to many people this does not count, since it isn't Japanese but.... Sorry but I have to go with The Iron Giant. I thought it was great.

I'm also a bit Megas XLR fan.

Okay, does it have to be 'Real Anime'? Then it's gotta be Patlabor.

I love Megas too, but I've seen The Iron Giant too long ago to really remember it unfortunately.

Definitely Eureka Seven, no question. ^__^ <33 And though I also love Code Geass... I dunno... I connected a lot better with the story and characters of Eureka Seven, I suppose.

No Gundam, eh? :(
Evangelion will always be my favorite....probably.....though Full Metal Panic! is really REALLY fun (I'm on episode 13 I think) and I think it's just plain hilarious. I need to see more mecha anime, because I like them so much......Big-O and Escaflowne are next on my list....but after that....hmmm....

You know... E7 is just a more optimistic Eva where they robots surf. That occurred to me while watching it awhile back.

I haven't watched any mecha anime recently apart from Gundam, but back in the early 80s, my favourites were:

- Gordian
- God Mars (i.e. Rokushin Gattai)
- and Golden Lightan (now that I think about it, this actually influenced my belief in a God concerned with justice)

Oh hey, God Mars. My fiance's seen that but he said it kinda went to crap in the end.

I've been, err...watching Daitarn 3, but I can't really say it's a favorite yet. I'm only on episode 6. XD

Excluding Gundam? Is that to say no one would have an opinion outside of Gundam? No Gundam title cracks my top 5.

Patlabor's the best of any.

Others that also rank higher on my list:
Macross
Full Metal Panic
Galaxy Freulein Yuna
Nadesico
Bubblegum Crisis
Voices of a Distant Star
Dominion Tank Police
Luna Varuga (ok, that's technically a monster, not a mech)
Panda Z

OK, 8th OS Team would sneak into that list at some point if I tried to rank them. It's better than some of those listed.

Aaaaaw... I like Gundams. *sighs deeply*

Well, I guess the only other mech anime I've seen was Transformers, though I can't, for the life of me remember which series it was. Oh well. TT_TT
