6th Harry Potter Movie moved to next Summer O_o

Postby ChristianKitsune » Fri Aug 15, 2008 9:35 pm

Soo... I'm pretty sure this is old news for you guys, and I'm not sure how many of you will actually care? (how many of you guys are fans of the movies?) But the majorly anticpated 6th Harry Potter Movie, which has been slated to come to theaters Nov. 21 has been moved to next summer, July 17th...

Source: http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/ap/20080814/121875864000.html

I know this is probably old news, but I wanted to hear your reactions to this... I fully plan on eventually watching all these movies soon, as well as reading the books. (I just don't have the time)

I think it's a WIERD move on Warner Bros' part, and that they are only concerned about the cash-cow rather than you, the fans... (of course the movie industry IS about money, but still...)

Soo yeah? Opinions?

This move is bittersweet to me, because a movie I've been looking forward too for about a year moved up three weeks to take it's spot. (YAAAAY) (People have been complaining that it was that movie's fault for this, which is TOTALLY untrue...) But I know that this move has really upset fans of BOTH movies...

Seriously, WB WHY!?

HP's move to next year...was very stupid on WB's part... because isn't Transformers 2 coming out in July of 2009 as well?

I didn't know that. Dang...I am in an event on Facebook about the movie in November. That stinks...I really want to see it.
I've read all the books (read them all last summer --yep, all 7 in 2 1/2 months) and have seen the movies out so far (thanks to an old roommate).
I wonder why they did it.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I think it's mostly because the summer's a great time for movies. They do very well in the summer. And there are more fans of HP here than you may know, CK. Despite their reputation (which is unwarranted, IMHO), the Harry Potter books have lots of Christian fans.

I never said that no one didn't like the book because they are Christians or not, RL XD I am just not sure how man fans of the book are also fans of the movies.

I just read this on FoxNews.com and it's kind of an interesting theory as to WHY this is happening:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,404681,00.html BEWARE CREEPY DANIEL RATCLIFF IMAGE >_<

I'm not sure how true that theory is, (it seems a BIT far fetched, I'll do a little more research to see if I can find anything on other news networks). but WB is saying that they just think the film will do better Next summer...which is stupid.

After all the hype and leading up to the "Teaser Trailer" They do this to the fans...it's not fair...

I get my movie three weeks earlier, but I still feel bad for the fans... and a lot of fans of both movies are being affected by this. :/

As much as I'd like it not to be true...I have a feeling that second report is right. There is absolutely no reason for the movie to get pushed back. These movies have been released both in the summer and around Christmas and in both cases they did great. WB is scared because Daniel did a stupid play and they think it'll ruin their money making.

Man, whatever. I hope to God in heaven they can get it released a bit quicker than that. It's just stupid...

This is unfortunate. As a person who has read all of the books and seen all of the movies, I can honestly say that I enjoy the movies much more than the books (which is a first for me).

Yah, I'm not sure about the play thing myself..(although that is the CREEPIEST picture I've ever scene >_<)

I'm not a MAJOR fan of HP, but I just really feel bad for the fans who have been waiting a year and a half to see it anyways, now it's two years...(from last summer to next summer)

I'm not a die-hard fan but they were very enjoyable books. The 2nd, 3rd and 5th movies were also quite good (especially 3 and 5).

Its ironic tht the teaser premiered only a few weeks ago and says "November" right at the end. They better start pulling the preview and making a new one, or people are going to be confused.

Equus... First thing I ever heard about it was that Dan Radcliffe was naked in it... Then I read the description of the play on wiki... Disgusting... There are some lines I won't cross with my media... Watching a (simulated OR real) rape, dealing with bestiality, and incest... Add that to the other animal abuse, and the fact it was taken from a real story that was simply about a guy who abused horses, but they added all the religious and sexual stuff to make a more "interesting" story, and... yeah...

It seems Dan is going through what many (mostly female) child stars go through... he's trying to break out by doing something decidedly non-kiddish.

Oh, and I was really getting excited about this movie until that WB announcement... Now I just want to protest WB... I think they're postponing it because they think Twilight's gonna take their thunder... Twilight is a teen book... Harry Potter has a MUCH broader audience... They shouldn't have to worry.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

100% Agreed. I couldn't believe that story myself. What was weirder was that, while based on a true account...like, 99% of the story is made up. All he did was overhear some 17-year-old blinding some horses and suddenly made up some stupid story about sexual attraction to horses and all this junk. I think the guy himself had some...problems.

Well I haven't even HEARD of Twilight. Not saying I want the movie to bomb, but...*shrugs* I don't know how well it'll even do to begin with.

If it's good, regardless of HP, it should still gain an audience. Word of mouth and all. If it's just..."ok"? Then again, regardless of situation, it'll still be the same.

I've also heard another reasoning that WB is only doing it out of greed. Since the writers strike, next year's batch of movies won't bring in as much money. So what are they doing? Holding off Potter so they're assured a huge haul next year.

Ya. Because we know they're so broke right now with TDK. Considering they've already advertised it as Nov (and the movie is fully finished, the pres of WB or whoever has even seen it and said how great it was), they should just be men about it and release the movie like they said.

As much as a huge fan I am of Twilight... I really can't see that movie stealing HP's thunder. It's being produced by a very small company, Summit Entertainment. And as much as I think (hope) this movie will be amazing... (because of how true the movie is too the book I've heard) I just don't think it has the fanbase, or the HUGE company that it would need to knock HP off it's horse. Summit would be happy if the movie makes 70 million, ecstatic if it makes 100 million... it didn't take that much to make after all. ^^

So it annoys me when HP fans like to bash the Twilight movie, its fans, its author and Summit...because it's not Summit's fault...they took advantage of a REALLY stupid move on WB's part. (seriously? A whole 9 months? O_o ) Which was REALLY smart of Summit, because that weekend is a lot better than the December 12 weekend... and they did it so the fans of the book could see the movie earlier... and NOT because they wanted to steal the Giant's thunder...

What people forget is that there are fans of BOTH books that were looking forward to BOTH movies...and so a lot of the fans of Twilight are just as upset, but they are also happy because they wanted to see the movie earlier and they can now...

Twilight is a romance movie... and though it has A LOT of fans, to think that it could even outshine HP6 is...really farfetched. It can probably give it a run for it's money...but it won't beat it...

I've also heard another reasoning that WB is only doing it out of greed. Since the writers strike, next year's batch of movies won't bring in as much money. So what are they doing? Holding off Potter so they're assured a huge haul next year.

The reason you menitioned is probably the most likely...but XD the Equus one makes at least a little more sense... but either way, it's still angering the fans. Because it really was such a stupid move...

Well ya, I mean...the movie is done. Finished. Fine. It's bad enough to make you wait, but that long? I know some HP fans are almost being jerks about it "it's just a few more months, get over it!" but that's almost a whole year's wait.

Well most of the ones I've run into have been upset as well, but I've also seen a handful (mostly on LJ stuff) that are acting like we have no reason to be angry. I understand disagreeing with the hard-hardcore ones (yanno, who like...want to kill WB and junk), but most fans are just summed up into "NOOOOO!/This sucks, I hate WB/A WHOLE YEAR?!"

Also I recently heard something I totally forgot of. What about the elderly fans? Surprisingly, HP actually has a very large adult fanbase...I know one of the movies I went to had lots of like...grandparents in the crowd! You kind of forget about it, but one woman mentioned how she might not even be alive much longer. In that case, I felt extremely sad for her.

O_o sorry, I find it annoying how people are like "I'm not going to live much longer and I wanted to see HP6..." I find that EXTREMELY annoying... because, ITS JUST A MOVIE ^^; Those people who are like that, seriously need to spend time with their families, not worry about when a movie is going to be released. :/

I'm sorta with the crowd that is like "It's not big deal." YES it was a stupid move on WB's part, but there's nothing anyone can do to change it... and crying and moaning about it won't help anything. In fact, it makes the entire fanbase look silly.

Plus, I'm sure this movie will be WAY better now that it's being delayed, you know?

yah, you're probably right XD. Let's just say I USED to be on the more upset people's side...but man I've read so many annoying and immature comments about this...it's just started to get me irratated at the entire situation.

Seriously, people are actually threatening the Author, the actors, of the other movie over this. It's RIDICULOUS.

I'm sorry that WB did this to its fanbase, yes. I'm sorry that the fans have to wait another year...but the fans are showing how immature they are by reacting this horribly...and i'm losing all the sorry and respect for them that I once felt... :/

Sorry if this sounds rude, but... You do know the movie isn't going to be worked on anymore, right? They're going to sit on it. It will be EVEN FURTHER away from the release of the Deathly Hallows book (though closer to the Deathly Hallows movies), and Potter Fever would have died down even more, meaning people aren't going to enjoy it as much, and the movie itself will not have changed.

So, no, it won't be better due to the delay. If they were going to shoot more scenes and use them to build an extended version that, say, included the Gaunts, then I'd be for a little delay, particularly if they planned on showing the extended version in IMAX... Just sitting on it? Stupid.

yes, I have heard that...but what if it's AN EXCUSE? what if it was screened and everyone hated it or something? What other VALID reason besides the money would there be to set a perfectly good finished movie back, knowing the fanbase would probably obliterate something... seriously...

I know it's finished, but maybe there is some work that could be done on it.

There is only so much you can do with a movie without bringing the actors back. If this were a game, then delays could be to work more on programming. A movie, though... The only thing you do in movies after you're done shooting is post production, and I doubt there's some huge effect in the film that will take 8 months extra to work on, nor does it take 8 months to edit a film... It may be 40 hours of editing work for every hour of movie, but that's still only 2-3 weeks of editing (I'd be happy if it was 3 hours, to be honest) Even if they were going to bring Dobby and Kreacher back, they'd have to have shot scenes for them to interact with Harry and other actors, so I'm thinking nothing like this is the case...

It's just money. They figure (maybe even incorrectly) they'll make more money then.
