Hmm, I'm not sure I do. I am not overly attached to the Batman series (or any other American comic series, for that matter), so I have no strong feelings about character designs.

Just got back from seeing it a second time and it was just as good as the first. This will defiantly be a first day purchase for me when it comes out on DVD. Which probably means I'm going to have to reserve it.... >.>

For what its worth, I don't have anything against Zeta Jones, but I don't think she would make a good Catwoman at all. I still say Tilda Swinton would do great.

To be honest, I dislike the character of Catwoman quite a lot. I would much rather see Penguin and Riddler in the third film. And I think Depp as Riddler and Seymour Hoffman as Penguin would be a very good combo. My only fear with Riddler is that if they do more of a dark twist to it...it may come off as similar to Heaths Joker.

I love Catwoman... mostly cause of Michelle Pfeiffers portrayal but ya. Her and Harley Quinn are my two favorite villains... and then the Riddler.

I don't know if this is obvious to everyone else, (I'm not really familiar with the comics) but I think the next female role will probably be a character from the comics/shows since I don't think they'd do another "not based on any comic book character" female "lead". That is of course if they do make another one.

So the options are Talia al Ghul, Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, as the more well known ones.

Who Is Batman's Next Foe?

As the Internet rumor mill heats up about a possible foe for the next Batman film, writer David S. Goyer (who got a story credit for The Dark Knight) told SCI FI Wire that it's possible the villain may not even be one you've ever heard of.

"There's no reason why we necessarily have to use the same three or four that are still around," Goyer said in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego last month. "I mean, Batman's got a wide variety, [a] rogues' gallery. Certainly we used two in the first movie that hadn't been in the films before."

Goyer, who wrote the script for Batman Begins with director Christopher Nolan, was referring to Ra's al Ghul (Ken Watanabe and Liam Neeson) and Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy).

The Dark Knight, written by Nolan and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, features Batman's most famous enemy, the Joker (played memorably by the late Heath Ledger), and a second well-known nemesis, Harvey Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart).

And Goyer's comments come as Web sites speculate on which well-known villain (The Riddler? The Penguin? Catwoman?) and which actor (Johnny Depp? Philip Seymour Hoffman? Angelina Jolie?) would play him/her in an inevitable third film in the most recent incarnation of the Batman saga.

But there are plenty of others: Villains that Batman has faced in the DC Comics alone include such familiar and obscure names as Anarky, Bane, Batzarro, Black Mask, Blockbuster, Calendar Man, Catman, Clayface, Cluemaster, Deadshot, Firefly, Hush, Killer Croc, Killer Moth, the Mad Hatter, Man-Bat, Maxie Zeus, Mr. Freeze, Mr. Zsasz, Poison Ivy, Hugo Strange, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Ventriloquist and Scarface, according to Wikipedia.

No decision has been made yet on whether to move forward with a third Batman movie, though it's likely one will come together eventually. "It's really up to Chris to decide, and he has not decided whether or not he wants to go back to the well again," Goyer said. Having finally seen it, I can comment. Rather than trying to jump into a dozen conversations, I'll just give my thoughts in brief:
[spoiler]Overall an enjoyable and well-made film. It's nice to see a film populated by such solid actors playing characters with some depth, as well as something that assumes its audience has a basic level of intelligence.

However, I wasn't awed. Ledger's Joker did a pretty decent job, but I felt his mannerisms were a mixed bag: some suggested absolute psychosis, but others were just distracting or gimmicky. They did nail the character, especially in repeating his backstory, and he fit very well with the overall atmosphere of the film, but his performance didn't strike me as brilliant.

As I said, I enjoyed the ride. But at the end I realized that there were a lot of loose ends. Having the Joker's last scene be inverted laughter is alright, but it feels strange that Two Face just gets knocked off a building, the Chinese money launderer gets burned off camera, and then to jump around at the ending. There were a whole variety of details that seemed off to me as well, but I'm willing to let those pass along with the Joker's supernatural ability to instantly wire anything with explosives.

Did anyone else feel like certain parts of the film hit the audience over the head pretty hard? Things like the ending lines felt jarring compared to the subtlety of the general film. I did appreciate the wordplay surrounding "the hero Gotham needs versus the hero Gotham deserves."

I knew I should have seen this at matinee: going to a normal showing (ie with more people) furthered damaged whatever shred of faith I have left in humanity.[/spoiler]

I think they were defending the viewpoint that catherine zeta jones isn't classy not the viewpoint that she shouldn't have the role as catwoman.

I think she is both classy and would make a great catwoman!

HOWEVER

after seeing the suggestion of bryce dallas howard on this forum and seeing the suggestion of gwyneth paltrow on another forum I am started to ACTUALLY consider both of them.

At first when I saw those names I wen "HUH?????" But after thinking about it they both MIGHT actually be able to pull it off.

I mean I thought the same thing about ledger when I first heard he was playing the joker.

I can imagine Bryce dallas howards catwoman being much more serious and really being able to make the audience connect with her. It would be different but it might match Christopher nolans theme.

I can see gwyneth paltrows catwoman being kind of sassy and DEFINITELY classy. Again it would be different but I don't think its totally out there!

Does anyone else think these actresses might work or would it be TOTALLY out there??
