I know I was playing games before the SNES came out. I imagine it was Super Mario Bros. I also remember playing (on an Atari) Pac-Man and some game where you got attacked by lizards that shot blood out of their eyes....but I think Super Mario Bros. was my first because I called Atari "Nintendo", so I had to have been familiar with Nintendo and Mario.
And to the above poster: I hate that level; it's probably the worst (except for 8-3 w/o fireballs)
Now, Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan).....that's a frustrating game.

Yeah, my dad had an Atari 2600, but I don't think I played it until I was a little older. It's not easy to use one of those old-school joysticks when your hands are little bitty, haha.
I kinda feel sorry for the people whose first gaming experience was on the N64. XD I hated my N64 because there were no decent games on it, except for maybe Ocarina of Time. I had that game, but it got stolen. The game I ended up playing the most was Namco Museum, lol. Eventually, I sold my N64 and all the games I had.

What about the original Smash Brothers? That was a more than decent game.

The first game I played at home was Pong. That may have been the first video game I ever played, but I might have made my first trip to an arcade before then.
That was followed by Pacman on the Atari 2600.
My father used to take my brother to the arcade on weekends when we'd visit him. I was very young, so he's control whatever it was and I'd fire the guns. The game I remember most playing that way was Time Pilot. Wizard of War was also a favorite of mine and perhaps the first game I played all on my own. Another candidate for that is Frontline.
Frontline was, at the very least, the first game to really capture my imagination.
The last time I walked into an arcade, there was nothing but street fighter type games. At that point, I knew the genre had passed me by. I was kind of good at Street Fighter 2, but it really wasn't interesting enough for me to spend any time or money on to get really good.
A lot of SUper Mario's made this list (and no real surprise there) but does anyone remember just plain old Mario Brothers? I used to love to play that int he arcade with my brother.

Proud to say that I started out my gaming legacy the right way: with a NES pad and a Super Mario Bros. game pak.

The first video game I ever played was called "Tank". In an arcade. You navigated a maze. You pushed a button and "shot" your opponent. There was a big rumbling sound that the box made, and a big explosion if you destroyed the other tank.

Hmm... it was probably Sesame Street on SNES... XD I was probably 3? Our video rental store allowed people to rent video games and consoles...
I also remember playing Tetras and Kirby's Dreamland 2 on the OLD Gameboy. You know, the GIANT one with the green screen?

Did anyone play for the NES 'Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back' I think that was a awesome game. I loved the controls on Luke, how you could use force powers if you wanted to FORCE jump all the time you could. Or you could switch from blaster to lightsaber. That game is great. I been playing it on my PSP lately as well.

My friend down the street got a Pong console for Christmas (actually it was a 'gift for the whole family' bought by his dad) when I was fourteen, so that was my first home video game experience. But several VGs were already out in the arcades before that. Either the arcade Pong or Night Driver was probably my first VG experience.
My first 'computer game', though was Star Trek, as written for the PDP 11. It was mostly a text based game, but it had a very crude 'star screen' (an array of alphanumeric characters) that a simple map to display where the Klingons were.
Not long after that, I encountered my first version of 'Lunar Lander' for TI Programmable calculators. That was kind of cool.
My first 'computer game', though was Star Trek, as written for the PDP 11. It was mostly a text based game, but it had a very crude 'star screen' (an array of alphanumeric characters) that a simple map to display where the Klingons were.

wow, lets see..its was either pitfall for Atari or some mickey mouse game for nes. i played pitfall nonstop..i loved that game.
wasn't all to good at it though if i remember well, those scorpions and snakes kept gettin' meh.
but i didn't really get the nag to play games till we got our snes and got Mario brothers 3 and Zelda a link to the past, those were the days!:rock:

You're kidding. There were plenty of great games for the N64.

Anyways, first game I ever played was probably Duck Hunt for the NES. I played it at a friend's house, and you couldn't pull me away from it.

First handheld game I ever owned was Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle, and the first console game I ever owned was Sonic the Hedgehog.

My first game was Super Mario Bros 3. My dad used to play it with me. I still remember I came home one day and he told me to go check out the game. He had made it to World 8! It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen.
