Batman : The Dark knight

I've talked Daymon into going to a matinee showing with me today. There's a theatre not too far from here where the matinee shows are $3.50! Win.

I really, really want to see this ...but I may not have a chance until next week. I have the money to go, just no way to get to the theater (Well, I could walk --I have friends who have --but it probably would not be a good idea--especially if the movie gets out after dark.)

My theater clapped no less than 6 times during the movie:

[spoiler]1. when the Joker was finally introduced.
2. The Joker pencil kill.
3. When the motorcycle was ejected out of the Tumbler.
4. When Batman flipped the semi truck over.
5. When Batman did the wheelie thing with the motorcycle.
6. When Gordon reappeared.[/spoiler]
And of course when the movie started, ended, and when Heath's name showed up in the credits and dedication.

The acting is great, the story is unpredictable, realistic, and great...Aaron Eckhart was stunning as Harvey...Heath Ledger really was that good. If I could shake Mr. Nolan's hand I'd cut my own hand off afterward and preserve it. He did it again, even better, and I can't wait to see where he goes next.

But maybe since they will not be able to have the relationship between harley quinn and the joker they have decided to go with catwoman instead.Overall I don't think poison ivy would fit as neatly into these new more realistic batman movies as either catwoman OR harley quinn[/spoiler]

[spoiler]That was my thought about robin too but some of the scenes with gordons son seemed to foreshadow that he would become robin. He is always rooting for batman, especially at the end of the movie. Also he was targeted by two face which could make him want to fight crime. Maybe I am overthinking things.

Yeah my theater clapped then to. I wanted to stand but and scream YES during number 4 and 6. Second time just as good. Can't wait to see it again XD

I saw it tonight. And my verdict is:

It was pretty okay.

Yes, not mind-blowing, not fantastic, not movie of the year, just pretty okay.

The major reason for this is I just thought a lot of the movie kind of dragged...badly. I was almost bored during parts of the movie. It's hard to explain why those parts were boring, they just were. It was during the middle of the movie I think. The beginning and the ending I wasn't bored at all. XD
[SPOILER]I think I was mostly bored during the part of the movie where the Joker was in custody...just...eh.[/SPOILER]
Now what else can I say? First of all, casting Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel? Ugh ugh ugh. She is not attractive in the least. :\ I know they couldn't get Katie Holmes to play Rachel again but geez, when the Joker is sitting there saying "My you are a beauty, aren't you?" and the woman is clearly not attractive then it kind of ruins the whole thing.

Heath Ledger was amazing as the Joker. Seriously. Jack Nicholson has nothing on him. It's a shame we'll never see him be able to reprise the character. D:

Aaron Eckhart was also fantastic as Harvey Dent. Also I hope this isn't a spoiler, as I didn't follow many of the trailers or hype surrounding the movie, so I don't know if it was common knowledge...but I know if it wasn't then Corrie will probably edit it into a spoiler for me. XD But I seriously didn't expect Harvey to turn into Two Face in this movie, and man, his character design was gross, which means that it was great.

And uh...I dunno what else to say. XD Oh yeah, except...

EDIT: OH YEAH HOW COULD I FORGET.
[SPOILER]The scene where the prisoner on the ferry takes the detonator and throws it out the window. That was powerful stuff, definitely my favorite scene in the whole film.[/SPOILER]

Dude..."just okay"? Come on. XD

At first I was pretty skeptical. And then once it picked up the pace (which didn't take long) I forgot about being skeptical because it totally sucked me in. There were a couple of moments powerful enough to make me tear up:

[spoiler]- When Harvey Dent was threatening to kill Gordon's son
- When it was looking like those people on the boats were just going to blow each other up, and then when they didn't I was like "YAAAAY"[/spoiler]

Both Harvey Dent and Joker were terrifying, but in different ways.

[spoiler]Dent was frightening because you know how dedicated he was to whatever he set his mind to, and you know how he could have been a great force for good, but as was said in the movie, Joker took the best of them and made him fall. That transformation was downright chilling. (And I don't just mean his face.) Also, brilliant performance by Eckhart-- I didn't know he was capable of such good acting.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]At first I wasn't really impressed by Joker, but then he just kept upping the ante, until I realized just how scary he is. Joker is scary because he is the embodiment of fear and chaos. He's scary because there really isn't a method to the madness-- he's just mad. To quote the movie again, "some men just want to watch the world burn". Heath Ledger's Joker is a villain for the ages. It's a shame Mr. Ledger is gone now.[/spoiler]

Now that I have enough sleep to be coherent...
My only complaint about the movie is that we didn't get to see all that much of cocky Bruce Wayne.

[spoiler]Although I did really love the part when he drove his car into the truck trying to ram the armored truck... and then glared at the guy who was trying to out him. Haha... great! While I'm at it, I also really loved when the Joker showed up at the fundraiser, and when he was dangling upsidedown at the end... that was stunning. The moment on the ferries when the prisoner threw the detonator out the window was also very poignant, and I was literally holding my breath when the civilian guy almost did it.[/spoiler]

Overall, I really liked the theme of the movie as well. It wasn't overly preachy, and it demonstrated its theme with the actions of the characters instead of just using their lines to put it across. So yeah, I'm gonna try to convince my friends to see it again with me tonight. XD

Really? I thought she was very pretty and she gave the part a lot more character and depth than Katie Holmes. I mean, even she isn't considered pretty, there's not a lot of hope for the rest of us.

Although I felt their were some spots where her acting didn't match katie holmes version of rachel but overall she fit OK. But the change of actors was my biggest gripe about the movie.

our theater was sold out the first 2 days(people camping out a month ago), so i'm going to see it tonight at midnight night after i finish babysitting. this movie will be the bomb dizzle man! The Joker and Ivy were my favs!
i'll prolly end up tearing up seeing Heath Leger. he was my favorite actor of all time(not cuz he was hott!)- he was amazing at acting and had completely different roles in every movie(unlike most actors these days that stick to the roles they're good at).

I'm about to complain about a bunch of things in this film, so to preface, I loved it, but that'd be boring to write.

This post is going to have more [color="Red"]spoilers[/color] than a trans-Atlantic race between the Titanic and the Hindenburg.[spoiler]The Dark Knight's focal weakness was that like Return of the King had too many endings, Dark Knight had too many climaxes. Most movies tend to have two climaxes, one near the middle where the villain ups the ante, and the ending where the good guys win, scorched Earth blossoms, and peace returns to the land. The problem is that Dark Knight had like five or six climaxes, which lends the film to feeling dragged out when the pay off is postponed for more build up again.

Crane is in this movie, though I can't imagine why. He's tacked on and out of character. It was much more satisfying when he got tazered on horseback in Batman Begins. That should have been the last we saw of him. Dead, or alive.

I hate cocky Bruce Wayne every time he's on screen. I can only tolerate him as Batman's diguise.

Heath Ledger's Joker was excellent, which is why I disliked it that he was left for the police to arrest. He was suitably defeated (not by Batman, but the passangers of the two ships), but the clean up was infeasible. The danger of imprisioning the Joker earlier in the film is that when he escapes it shows just how useless capturing him again would be, which is what happens. The Joker is insane, he's not going to accept defeat because his point was sabotaged, that would be too rational of him. The minute he saw neither ship destroyed the other, he simply decided to kill them both. For the Hell of it. And now that Heath Ledger's dead, he has no chance of reprising the role, which would be the only reason to leave the Joker alive. He's not Crane. He is still dangerous.

And the ships, I honestly would not have been surprised if both crews were actually given the detonator to their own bombs, and in attempting to kill each other destroyed themselves. This isn't a complaint though.

And finally, Two Face. Well-conceived, but what'll they do with him? After Commissioner Gordon's deliberately whitewashed memorial speech, they can't have him walking around downtown Gotham. Is he dead? Is he secretly incarcerated? Living in hiding?[/spoiler]The rest was liquid excellence.

The Joker, as far as I know, never really got killed off in the comics, and I'm glad they left him alive here. I've heard that Nolan doesn't want to make another installment to this Batman series, and if he ends up leaving it as-is, then I think it works that the Joker is still alive and, even if imprisoned, could still fight Batman someday. It's just tragic that it'll never happen, with Heath Ledger's death.[/SPOILER]

Yeah, I know my opinion in this matter is not relevant, but I watch movies where the guy the girls are supposed to be slobbering over is at best "all right" and at worst "smarmy and ugly as sin," but I just suck it up and get on with the movie.

Many girls here on CAA are far better looking than Maggie Gyllenhal (I'm not being a stalker type I'm just telling it like it is). But I think you can do far worse than Maggie (personally I find her attractive). She also has some brains and a great personality (unlike many other girls in the industry).
