Looks like we're in agreement on this. I thought FFVII was decent, but that was despite the technology. If only they would do more games along the lines of FFX - just because it's fantasy doesn't mean it has to be the same Fighter / Black Mage / Crystal bit. For the most part I can take guns, but mechs go too far for me.
On the bright side, that thing floating in the sky is cool. I have no idea what it is or what function it might serve, but I like the look of it.

To me, it was more different than lacking. More political and less direct, but not necessarily worse. I won't say the plot was incredible (and it could have used some more character development) but I found it adequate. However, we're alike in that we consider plot the more important element.
