Summer 2008 Season

I've had a look at three shows so far and I think I'll be keeping two of them, in addition to Soul Eater from spring.

Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto ~Natsu no Sora~ is about a girl who goes to Tokyo for mage training. The backgrounds are simply stunning and the animation is just as quality. The pacing seems really slow, but I think it wouldn't hurt to keep on following it, and I get some pretty art to look at.

Natsume Yuujinchou is about a boy who can see spirits. His grandmother was also able to see spirits and she managed to defeat a whole bunch of them and keep their names in a book. So, now he's going to return those names so that the spirits are freed and go away. This looks like it will turn out fairly decently.

World Destruction is about a group of adventurers who try to destroy the world. It's based on the DS RPG by Sega. I was initially drawn to it expecting Yasunori Mitsuda's music, but found that he's only doing music for the game. Otherwise, the anime seems like a fairly typical video game tie-in. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it.

So what's everyone else picking up this season?

I'm not really sure what to watch now. I was pretty busy through spring, so I want to catch up on some old stuff.

I watched the first ep of Slayers Revolution, but I wasn't really into it the first couple rounds, so I doubt I'll keep it up. World Destruction sounds interesting simply because I like stories about people destroying the world, so I might pick it up, even if it is silly.

So I learned that BONES' new original project, Bounen no Xamdou or Xam'd: Lost Memories has started to be released. It's strange because it's being offered exclusively on the PlayStation Network. Apparently, the Japanese PSN isn't up yet, so it won't be getting it until September, but it's available in the States for $2.99 or $3.99 depending on the quality. It's in Japanese and has English subs. I had a look at the first episode and they style immediately reminded me of Eureka Seven. The first episode didn't really explain much, but it looks like it'll be about some sort of biological mecha thing that people can turn into. To me, it looks like it could be the most interesting thing that this season has to offer.
