Best Nintendo home console

Postby rocklobster » Tue Jul 01, 2008 10:21 am

Notes: Because the Wii is still new, I have decided it cannot be compared to the others. It just wouldn't be fair. Also, this poll only concerns the home stuff, no Gameboys and the like.

The best console experiense I have had is the N64, however, the by far best one is the SNES.

My family and I have had the most fun on the N64. XD The Wii is a lot of fun, and I imagine if we had one, it would be very similar, but for now, N64 all the way. XD

SNES has Super Mario World, which is my favorite Nintendo game. So it wins in my book. :)
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I'm shocked no one has chosen NES yet, though I chose SNES... NES was what made me a gamer, even though I started on 2600, but the SNES just meant a lot more to me. When I first got the NES, I didn't know what it was. I knew it was something else that played games like the Atari. When I got my Super Nintendo, it was after waiting a LONG time, from the announcement to a year or two after the launch... I was very excited, and that system introduced so much to me...

I know people who think that the 2600 was the peak of gaming history and it went downhill from there... Darn "good graphics" getting in the way of my fun, huh? Oh, the fun I had fighting with that stiff controller to get it to do anything. I was pretty good at it, though.

SNES , N-64 and Gamecube. not sure about the Wii since I don't have one yet.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Im really sorry that I never really got to play the NES or SNES. I do remember playing Donkey Kong on a Nintendo system. Was its from one of those systems? Because I remember a level where you road a cart through a mine or something like that. And that was from a long time ago before the N64. So I don't know.

I didn't get to experience much of the N64, but that doesn't mean I didn't have fun with it. Mario Party and SSB(The originals that is. Unless there was a SSB on NES or SNES.), anyone? And I also liked to play Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium(Hey I was 9, what can you expect?). Also Ocarina of time(Wonderful game!)! And last one of my favorite game series, Paper Mario!

Gamecube was also good. It brought me Tales of Symphonia, Luigi's Mansion, more Zelda, more SSB, more Mario Party, more Paper Mario, and it also brought my old favorite Sonic games back to life(From my Sega Genesis days. "Sonic the Hedgehog- Mega collection".). Plus other games that I can't remember right now.

So for me, it's a draw. (Sorry, I just can't choose!)

Well, though I clicked on N64, which was a great console. I would have to go with NES or SNES, I really enjoyed many of the games for both the platforms. I mean "Heavy Barrel" Will always be a priceless game to me. I wish the wiiVirtualConsole would include that game.

Which is why, I would say the Wii is a great console since you can play so many games from NES, SNES, N64 and many other consoles. Wii is also great just in itself.

So, I am very undecided since, I loved them all. But, Wii wraps them up coming in first now, specially since I can play games I love with my girlfriend.

WiFi SSBB anyone? hehe

Hee...hee...I'm going to LOVE this topic! May as well start with the losers...

The NES had one too many glitches for my tastes. In order to play a rousing game of "Super Mario Brothers" I had to...

1. Blow three times into the cartridge.
2. Flip open the pointless cover and blow five times inside the console
3. Slam the cart inside the machine and, while holding the cartridge as hard as you can inside, lock the cart in place.
4. Press the Power Button 5 times, the Reset button no more than 4 until the little red light stops blinking and the "Super Mario World"/"Duck Hunt"

The N64 is a great console...solid and very for-the-times. I loved playing "Hey You! Pikachu" on it for hours on end. HOWEVER, I think it had too many accessories you had to purchase for it. Expander Packs, Rumble Packs, Extra controlers. And it also heralded in the age of the multi-button controlers. I swear, playing "Starfox 64" for the first time in Toys R' Us was quite a confusing experience. But, to it's credit, the N64 Controler was really ergonomic and the graphics were out of this world.

I never owned a GameCube, but it had two strikes against it from the get go. I can sum it up in one word--DISKS. Gone were the rugged Carts of yesterday replaced with the thin slices of plastic that can be rendered unplayable after one drop. In addition, the controller looked like it DOUBLED in buttons and control stalks. Seriously, where does a game controller end and a keyboard begin?

That leaves my all-time favorite console...the SNES! What's there not to love about this system? No more huffing and puffing inside the carts or the machine. All you do is drop it in, push down and flip that big purple Power switch with a satisfying "Clunk". The controller is the perfect update from the original--curvy, with a few more buttons placed for advanced yet simplistic game play. Above all else, the SNES came with what has to be the last, great, home system accessory of the day and the rightful (if not battery hungry) sucessor to the NES Blaster--the SUPER SCOPE. As I write this, I pulled my old friend from out the corner and I can't help but notice the attention to detail Nintendo gave this thing with regard to color matching--unlike it's bright orange and white "Cream pop" predessor, the SS looked like it BELONGED with the SNES. Sure it didn't come with many games...but it was a BAZOOKA gun! When you placed it on your shoulder and looked through the viewfinder, you felt like you were holding something that could blow the TV UP! (As long as you kept feeding it 6 AA batteries and keep the little reciever box plugged in the right controller port...1Up mushroom to the first person who remembers what port!)

As you guys can see, this topic was right up my alley!

My vote goes to the NES. You folks have to realize that the video game industry was in the skids when the NES came out. The NES practically saved the industry. For that reason (and the simple fact that it's the only system on the list I owned), I vote NES.
