Lucky Star Opinions

Postby KhakiBlueSocks » Thu May 22, 2008 8:19 pm

Peace and love guys!

I just finished "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" (One of the greatest series I've ever came across, IMHO) and I saw a preview for this cool looking and rather funny anime called "Lucky Star". Now, before anyone decides to just post the Wikipedia link to the article to be "helpful", allow me to beat you to it:

There. Now, has anyone seen the series and if so, is it worth investing in?

I remember when it first got fansubbed.I watched it for awhile but quit watching it before it was finished. It was good. Seemed kind of similar to Azumanga Daioh, but I loved the references, especially the one to Initial D. I love that manga/game/anime.

The first few episodes are a little weak in my opinion, but the show as a whole is awesome.
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.
All alone at the top of the hill, I watch as the seasons go by.

The best thing since sliced bread. But only if you've someone who's seen more Anime then the normal health limit. It's needed to get the 200 some Anime references the series makes. XD

Lucky Star is essentially pop culture, conversation, and moe~. If two or more of that is good chemistry for you, give it a shot. Conversely, thought, if any one bit isn't, leave it alone.

Basically, what Fish said. I like Lucky Star a lot and it does have its moments but compared to other pop culture/otaku/moe titles (I'll use Ichigo Mashimaro as one example that anime I loved.) this would rank in second or possibly third place IMHO. Though the Lucky Channel segments are hilarious and like others have mentioned it's an enjoyable watch. XD

If you've seen and enjoyed Strawberry Marshmallows, then you ought to like this one, too. I've only seen the first four episodes, but it seems on par with that.

Fairly zany and wacky, but probably not as zany or wacky as Azumanga Daioh. Definitely not as wacky as PaniPoni Dash.

That said, I've seen all of the ones I've mentioned and am enjoying Lucky Star as well.

The first few episodes are definitely the weakest part of the series. It gets really, really good soon after that. One thing that I really found kind of silly was the absolutely insane amount of Haruhi references. If you've just started, you haven't seen anything yet. In spite of that, it's definitely one of my favourites.

Well...I finally got my hands on Volume 1, and I must say, I really like it! It's very funny, the animation is great, and the storyline really interests me. I've always had a soft spot for the "Slice of Life" genre. I love all the Haruhi references! In fact, it was because of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" that I first became interested in Lucky Star!

I was quite puzzled, however, with the first episode--they spent about 5 minutes talking about the proper way to eat different foods. But it was a cute scene.

It's so catchy, and the dance is very reminicent of Hare Hare Youkai, which I also love!

Dude, I love this anime. :) The references, oh the references! And the theme. And the fact that Konata is such an otaku. XD

This anime really got me into the whole "Slice of Life" Genre. I never really payed too much attention to it before, but after I got hold of the first episode, I was hooked. The anime itself really picked up after ep. 4. I'm assuming that it had something to do with the change of directors. Whatever, it was for the best. :) I'm looking forward to picking up the first volume now that it's licensed.

I've seen a couple episodes of this before and thought it was nice but not really anything special. That was a while ago, though, and I did only watch the first couple eps... I think I'm gonna give the rest of it a try, based on what people have been saying about the later half of the series. XD That, and the fact that I've now seen Haruhi Suzumiya, so it ought to be entertaining for that reason alone...

There was a moment in one of the episodes when Konata (Voiced by Wendee Lee) did a SPOT ON imitation of Shin-chan From "Crayon Shin-Chan". That was brilliant! That was a PERFECT casting choice!

Is this anime dirty? because I won't watch it if it had dirty humor(like alot of hollywood movies have). I also won't watch it if the English scripts were writen by Wendee Lee. She's a great actress and director, but a sucky writer.

I ain't no prude,I just don't like dirty humor.

I'm going to let you read for yourself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_%E2%98%86_Star), but remember what you said a few months back:

Don't make fun.And besides,I've changed my position on the matter a long time ago. Whats past is past and you should leave it alone. I'm not proud of some of my past CAA statements(or threads)and I'd appreciate it if people never bring them up again....except for my 'Mainstream Christian Voice Actors' thread(the only thread of mine that I'm really proud of).

I <3 Lucky Star. And yes, it's actually very clean, Christisright. It's only about as bad as AzuDai.
