Countdown to MGS4

Postby Bobtheduck » Mon Jun 02, 2008 1:20 pm

10 days

Man, it's gonna be crazy. So far it's gotten a metacritic rating of 97, and the lowest review, an 80 out of 100 by Eurogamer, is by someone who doesn't like the series... That's saying something. I, for instance, would likely rate GTA4 as something more like a 6 or 7 out of 10. (I have a bias against the series, which is why I don't rate it)

IGN says it's the perfect Metal Gear game, and a number of people have said it answers basically every question (except Eurogamer... Seemed to be the only one so far who hasn't gotten it, which should mean it isn't another MGS2 as a LOT of people didn't get that one...)

Gamepro gave it a perfect rating, saying it's one of the best games of all time.

Man... I'm stoked... Numerous reports have said the game is around 30 hours, which puts it in the low JRPG status there... It's an answer to those bemoaning the lack of long games this gen...

I reserved the LE with the making of Bluray with about 2 hours of content, and the soundtrack, a 2 CD soundtrack with some more epic music by Harry Gregson Williams (and some... Normal Metal gear music, too... Yes, I've been listening to the soundtrack on youtube while I wait for the game to come)

So... 10 days.

I would definitely get it if I had a PS3, too bad it won't be released on the 360:(. I'll just have to get a PS3 in the future to play it.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

My fiance is planning on buying the PS3/MGS4 bundle from Gamestop. Which is cool and all, but I wish there were other games to play on the PS3 so the 500 bucks would be better justified. >_>

There plenty of good games for the PS3, lol. Heavenly Sword, Drake's Fortune, and COD 4 are to name a few.

If you need a list of good games on the PS3

Uncharted: Drake's fortune -- no one should be without this one. Indiana Jones type story...

Folklore -- action RPG with good uses of the sixaxis and an interesting story, though lacking voice acting and too much reading. I believe gamestop sells it for 30 bucks new... Definitely go for it.

Unreal Tournament 3 -- If you're willing to put in a bit of work to install the mods and get some friends to play them with you online http://www.ut3mod.com the mods will NOT be on the 360 version, BTW

Resistance 2 -- is gonna be out in November, so it may be worth giving Resistance 1 a rent. It's not the most impressive thing on the system, though it certainly looks better than Haze and is, at least, the best launch title since Mario 64. R2, on the other hand, looks incredible.

Heavenly Sword -- If you can find it for 30 or less, since it's so short. It's a good game other than the length, and you really need to see the incredible effort Weta put into this game.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of destruction -- What can I say? It looks like a pixar game, and collecting bolts can be fun, as is upgrading all your weapons and armor.

If you don't have a 360 as well, then

Assassin's Creed -- It's a bit too, um, "open" for my tastes, which makes it very difficult for me to get into it, but whenever I do, it's always a fun experience. And maybe you like wide open games.

CoD4 -- Actually the PS3 version runs slightly better than the 360 version, though it's hindered by the PS3's (as of now) inferior matchmaking system. To be optimistic, though, that could very well change this month with the new firmware, but I've been hyped about firmware before and let down, so I'm taking it all with a grain of salt. Oh, and in all honesty, this game isn't my style at all (though the aerial support mission I played was incredible). I just suggest it because it's so popular...

I hear GTA4 is good, if you're into that (I'm definitely not)

Dark Sector seemed pretty cool... It's like a supernatural fantasy version of Gears of War

Oh, and if you find it for 20 bucks or so, overlords is a nice diversion... Certainly not worth 60 bucks, but I'm sure it won't cost that much for long.

There are a number of racing games on the system: GT5:P (I'd wait for the full game, personally, but I'm not a race fan anyhow), Dirt, Motorstorm 2 is coming this fall (concept seemed cool, M1 was a let-down because of the lack of splitscreen, mostly), and of course Burnout.

There are sports games... They all suck

Then there are PSN titles:

Everyday Shooter -- GET IT... Seriously. And if you haven't had too much of dualstick shooters,

Super Stardust HD -- It's one of the few games on the PS3 that allow for custom soundtrack, though again with the 2.4 rumors, the new firmware is supposed to allow for that across the board. The game is fun, and you can try to beat Omega's score... My top score is 7 million I believe, and his was like 70 or 80 million...

Pixel Junk Monsters -- Tower Defense, though I guess the ability to collect money from your defeated invaders is a new feature, so I've heard from fans of the genre... I wouldn't know, this is my first tower defense game. It's really addictive.

Piyo Piyo -- Tetriclone, it's only 3 bucks... And worth at least 5.

Mortal Kombat II -- The only game I can play competitively and usually win.

That's the last of the PSN games I still play... Oh, those and Blast Factor, but I seem to be the only one who likes blast factor now that Stardust and Everyday shooter are out... I don't play Calling All Cars anymore, because I have no one to play it with, and Rub a Dub was a stupid purchase altogether, as the 5 level demo was more than enough (though I got pretty good at the demo) Oh, great, now I'm gonna cry when I think of my favorite bald-headed former Sony exec... He loved those ducks so... And now he's rotting in Atari. Hope Alone in the Dark turns out great.

Just jumping in here to claim that I'm totally stoked about this!

For the record, I've been listening to the soundtrack and I preordered the game... planning on preordering the headset, too... since I don't have anything bluetooth yet.

Unless you REALLY like the shape, I'd suggest getting a cheaper bluetooth than that one. Just saying, the MGS4 one is pretty pricy.

Sure thing...

8 days

Famitsu appears to have given it a perfect score... Unfortunately, that's no indication it will do well in Japan, as they tend to be western game fans... Plus, they gave a good rating to Haze... Of course, my friend said the online play and the differences between the rebel and mantel sides make it worth it, so I may still pick it up once the price drops to half... not now... It's certainly not worth 60 bucks...

Ah yes, I have heard about this.

Now you and your boyfriend can find out what's so awesome about Bioshock. :D

Well... minus the little bit of the end. The rest was pure gold.

And as much as I love The Orange Box, I say that you should skip the PS3 version.

Apparently a number of retailers have broken street date, and either sold it or stolen a copy and taken it home, and one of the "lucky" recipients of the game just leaked a full description of the game from beginning to end onto the internet...

Time to be very careful.
