Gurren Lagaan to air on Sci-fi Channel

Looks like Sci-fi is going after other companies besides Manga Video now. Read here for more info:

The series will run at two episodes a week through October. However, Bandai Entertainment could not announce the names of the dub cast members, as it previously suggested it would

Uh, no they are not. I already posted this in the lineup thread and it gives the reason why they are going to air this and they are not dealing with other anime companies other then Manga video.

Doesn't Gurren-Lagann contain a lot of mature themes?

It really doesn't matter, because Sci Fi Channel will edit that out of it.

I'm happy to see this come to TV, but I with it was on Adult Swim, since they wouldn't have a problem with the mature themes.

Not really. I'm watching some fansubs now and I'm on Episode 8, and there's been consistent light-to-moderate cussing, tons of over-the-top robot violence, a little blood, a fair amount of fanservice, and some undetailed nudity in one episode. There is a monotheistic cult-like community in one episode, but you'd have to read pretty far into it to find it offensive.
EDIT: If it's a concern, there is a Ron, a character who makes a few gay jokes early on and bugs the heck out of Kamina by faking coming on to him. It's only in that episode, that I know of.

I seriously hope Sci-fi will do a deal with another anime distributor soon. They need if they hope to make a success out of their anime block.

Wow this is some surprising news. I wonder how this anime will be perceived by viewers?

From what I read, the censored episode was aired on Japanese TV. I honestly did not like the series after a certain point when they started to talk about evolution, it just doesn't sit well with me. I remember him claiming that the power of evolution or something is what helped him win, not the power that God gave him.

I don't see how that will happen. Adult Swim airs most of its anime mostly uncensored, where Sci Fi Channel has edit things out in, mostly to show more ads. Its somewhat been hear that yes, Sci Fi Channel did get the uncensored ep six, but reading about the uncut version and how Japan TV had a problem with it, I really can't see Sci Fi channel show it uncut.

And yes, Japan television stations did run the censored version of ep six.

Quoted from the interview of GL's producer Yasuhiro Takeda on ANN.

ANN: Gainax has had to deal with concerns from television stations regarding mature images and themes in previous series. For Gurren Lagann, airing at a child-friendly time slot last year, did any television stations raise similar concerns about the series?

Takeda: Well, it's not Gainax's problem —], they said, “Oh, it shouldn't be a problem.” Yet, when we completed the animation footage and showed it to them, they said, “There's no way we can show this.”
