I adore comics. The vast majority of my collection is image, Vertigo, Darkhorse, or America's best, but there is some traditional Marvel and DC fare mixed in.

My favorite current running series is The Walking Dead.

I'm into DC whenever they don't completely tick me off.

Which is rare. I mean, after your favorite character just get killed/evil-ized/rewritten/retconned for the 50th time, you just kind of give up... (I'm not bitter, I'm not bitter at all!)

Impulse, Robin III, Young Justice, Batgirl II (III?) and some Teen Titans Go!. Blue Beetle III of course. Why yes, they ARE all teen superheroes. I cannot STAND the adult heroes because they are so full of pretentious, egotistical <s>JUSTICE!</s> ridiculousness. That, and while it's kiiiiiiiiind of OK for a 15 year old kid to think it's cool to run wildly around in brightly colored spandex, it is NOT OK for 40 year old men to do the same. (Sorry if I offended anyone around here >_>;) I think recently, DC has been getting a bit better-- Cassandra Cain is back to relative normal, Blue Beetle is being awesome, Spoiler might be back, and Bart Allen's getting some cameo appearances.

Generally, I like manga better, but there will always be crap manga and good Amecomi. I think one of the reasons I'm not into it AS much (aside from the abundance of superheroes and DC breaking my heart all the time) is because it's REALLY hard for me to read. I grew up on manga, it's hard to make the transition, and I feel like the panelling doesn't make sense (and I keep opening books on the wrong side!).

I really should read some of the darker, less superhero-y comics someday. Someday.

Though I do have some Marvel now(mainly Star Trek and X-Men)I grew up a devout Superman fan.Indeed my fave title is Supergirl(the '90s version).I also have a fair deal of Catwoman,Batman,The Flash,the 90s
Green Latern,etc.My greatest disappointment was the cancellation of
Elektra by Marvel midway through.

I blame my three-Manga-a-week habit on a youth misspent on Marvel... with some DC and Mad Magazine mixed in.

More recently, my American comics have been limited to occassional Dark Horse and Top Cow issues, plus every OEL Manga I can lay my hands on (except for a couple specific titles I thumbs-ed down for total lack of interest.) I've gone through the entire Sin City series, which ain't exactly CAA material, I know, but I've always liked Noir stuff in general, so I couldn't help it.

Oh! Comics! Yeah, I love them. XD Not so sure about the modern ones. My taste run more with the older ones. Especially the X-men. ^^ Nightcrawler has, and always will, be my favorite. I like the Avengers. (from the earlier 80s, late 70s) and then there's the Defenders. Flash was always my favorite of DC. Even the modern ones were good. ( to me, at least. n.n;;; )

Yep. Think I had the entire series at one point. Parked right next to She-hulk. I gave up, but I think Marvel might still be going (at least they were at one point.

Earlier, there was a Spiderwoman, too. I think she actually had a TV show at one point.

I don't buy much of either of the Big Two, though DC is more my style than Marvel is (especially with the Vertigo imprint). At least Marvel has the Ultimate Universe, whose existence seems a bit...shaky at the moment (darn it Joey Q, at least let me have Ultimate Spiderman after ASM was ruined THANKS TO YOU), and Nextwave, which has been cancelled for some time.

In the meantime, I lean towards smaller companies and indie books--Top Cow, Radical, Xenescope, SLG's and Image's creator-owned titles. There's more to comics than just superheroes!

I've collected mostly DC comics for the past 20 years. I still appear at my local shop every week for the new offerings.

I've seen Superman die and Batman broken. (Don't worry, they are both much better now).

After 20 years, though, the stories are definitely starting to repeat themselves. (Tim Drake has been 15 for about 15 years now).

I've enjoyed my years collecting, but I am in the autumn of my collecting years, to be sure. I've hung around long enough for most of my favorite heroes to be killed or forgotten or twisted by writers whose talents I do not care for.

I've also become a lot more jaded when it comes to women in comics. Even now in 2008 the primary role of the women in comics - even super powered women - is to be used and abused as emotional torment for male heroes who must save (and often fail to save) them.

It would be nice to see them completely break with the old conventions that guide their writing and do something new. I mean really new, not just the reappearance of a villain that this generation hasn't seen yet. That does not seem to be the desire of the fanbase as a whole, though, they seem to want more of the same.

Of course, one could say most of my problems come from a rather unfortunate tendency to like the characters DC feels justified in killing and forgetting. If only I could find it with in me to be a fan of Dick Grayson, the 50 year old 20 year old.

But don't pay any mind to me. Enjoy the comics. Love them for what they mean to you. I may sound a little grumpy right now, but I have no regrets. I still love the stories I loved and I am glad to have read them. Finding them was worth reading any of the stories I did not care for.

I think that may be why I've always latched on to female superheroes when they bring them out, the aforementioned She-hulk, Spiderwoman, etc. I latched onto a long forgotten comic called the Dazzler for the brief time it was running (late 70's early 80's time-frame. I can't remember exactly.) Probably even my fascination with Witchblade. My wife thinks it's her physique, but frankly... even in fiction I've always liked seeing self-reliant female characters instead of Sweet Nell. I'm sure it is a reflection on my family. My eldest sister, for example, is a firefighter and mountain rescue EMT (if you're ever get into trouble skiing at Bolton Valley, Vermont, it might be her saving your butt.) Nothing more frustrating to me than watching the girl standing paralyzed in fear or screaming as the monster comes closer.

Anyone ever notice that usually when you can see a woman's fingernails in American comics, they're almost always painted BRIGHT RED or BRIGHT PINK?! I've NEVER seen otherwise, and it bugs the heck out of me. For one, those colors look TERRIBLE on most people. For another, how many women do you see walking around looking like that?! Even making everyone wear French tips would be more realistic (oh GODS no). Male comic writers need to get out and interact with some real women once in a while.

Back before I became abjectly destitute because of gas prices, I was TOTALLY into comics. I'm definitely a Marvel and indie guy. I can't get into DC. I read a little bit of the All Star series but the Batman one was silly and the Superman one was even sillier. I was reading Astonishing X-Men, New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Runaways, Wolverine, Wolverine Origins, Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Fantastic Four, The Amory Wars, Ultimate Iron Man... I wish I could still afford them but I have to be able to drive. : |

This is one of the reasons I miss CrossGen. They had a lot of strong female characters fronting their own titles: Giselle from Mystic, Sephie from Meridian, Capricia from Crux, Arwyn from Sojourn and Emma Bishop from Ruse. The only one who had a traumatic past is Arwyn, who had her family killed (and then went all Rambo against the bad guy).

And they're always wearing high heels. When fighting evil. That, I think, is crueler than stuffing them in refrigerators: forcing them to fight in 4-inch spike heels.

I was raised by a single mother, so it's really no surprise I find strong resourceful women to be attractive. I think that's one of the things that actually attracted my to both comics and anime. It was a sad day for me when I realized that the even the most skilled women in comics still end up playing the damsel in distress way too frequently. If anything, it's gotten worse over the past decade, not better.

Black Canary in the 50's and 60's rescued her love interest way more than she needed rescuing herself. Then she met Green Arrow and a series of pathetic thugs she could no longer best w/o his help. Sad, really.

There are some gems out there, though. I love Shadowpact and the JSA. Huntress and Batgirl both have miniseries coming out, which I am eager (and somewhat apprehensive) to see where they lead.

I'm not much of a DC fan but I do love Marvel Comics. I also like the underrated series like Supermarket and Kissing Chaos. I also love the Marvel Runaways series and Brian K.'s Pride of Baghdad. Fables is also a 'not too shabby' graphic novel. I'm also an X-Men Evo. fan of both the comic and show.

And though this is slightly off-topic (in the sense it's not DC or Marvel based.) I was wondering if anyone here liked the W.I.T.C.H. comics? I adore that cute series! ^__^

I used to read comics a lot as a kid. I even read the Disney and Archie stuff. But as I got older and started working more, it became increasingly difficult, so I quit. I've mostly been a "Joe DC" myself, with Batman being my favorite superhero.
