Iron Man- Apparently Amazing

Postby Cognitive Gear » Wed Apr 30, 2008 3:39 pm

Is anyone else planning on seeing Iron Man this weekend? It's the first movie created by Marvel's own studio. Frankly, it looks awesome. I can't wait.

Rotten Tomatoes currently is counting 31 reviews and it sits at 94%.

yes. the movies seems to be quite well-crafted. rather than focus all on the special effects, it would seem the movie dives deeper into the characters and their development. it should be quite interesting though i wouldn't rely on RT just yet.

Hence why I noted how many reviews are being counted. A movie with this kind of budget will have around 200 reviews before all is said and done. I'm just generally excited, as it actually looks truly good.

Maybe this will be the first Marvel Superhero movie where the hero even remotely acts/looks like the real thing.

Still, I suppose they're using Black Sabbath's Iron Man song as a theme? That looked awesome.

not to get too off-topic, but i believe that the Spider-man movies did a pretty decent job of capturing the main character's personality.

I have been waiting for this movie since the first Spider-Man movie.
I was like Spider-Man is great but I wish it was a Iron Man movie instead. I am going to see it Thursday at an advance showing. I am soo excited I cannot get to sleep.

I just finished seeing it. I thought it was okay but that's because I thought there was too mcuh comedy in that movie which is weird for me cause I like comedy in movies like this. and they did have some cool stuff done for the special effects.

I liked it, I did. but if there is anything I must recommend to you about this movie is to stay after the credits, because THERE IS A KILLER SPOILER OF WHAT MIGHT BE MARVEL STUDIOS NEXT MOVIIE!!!! "

You'll be like "no way!!!"

Infact I urge you to. please do. You'll thank me later for telling you.

yes. the movie looks to be quite the thing w/ such high ratings on RT. however, firestorm's comment regarding the after-credits clip has also caught my attention. what could marvel studio's next movie be? i am quite curious.

I can't say (most) of the trailer for Iron Man did it for me, but if it's focused on more than just mindless action and is well-made, then I may check it out.

i don't know about mindless action. from what i here, the story is more of a set-up for future Iron Man sequels and sorta sets up the background story of the main characters.

Iron Man was absolutely FANTASTIC. By far the... SECOND best superhero movie I have seen (The first being Batman Begin). I loved Tony Stark's "lovable jerk" character, and his one-liners and deadpan humor was amazing.

I highly recommend it.

This movie was fantastic. This gives me hope for all of the future Marvel Studios movies.

Next up: The Incredible Hulk.

I guess I'm going to have to be the voice of dissent. It was an enjoyable film, but in all honesty I don't think it was a very good one (outside of technical quality and acting, which were of course excellent). Perhaps it would be better to say it was a good film with a mediocre story.

They begin with gritty realism, bringing up issues of patriotism, terrorism, weapons manufacturing, the military-industrial complex, so on and so forth. And then they do absolutely nothing with them. Tony Stark goes from being a jerk to being slightly less of a jerk with exactly the same set of values.

Our villains fit right into this system, being generic Bad Guys with no apparent motivations other than demonstrating the fact that they're evil at the first possible opportunity. Had Obadiah been an extremist patriot who wanted to serve his country he might have been interesting. As things stand, I was surprised he didn't start laughing maniacally or reveal that he killed Tony Stark's father.

With a film like Iron Man, technology is also important. I went in with a great deal of suspension of disbelief prepared, but the computer "hacking" sequence was painful to watch. "So where do you keep your incriminating evidence?" "In the folder marked Ultra Secret, naturally." "Good call, good call... isn't that Omnipotent Command Prompt feature convenient?" I'm not qualified to comment on robotics, but the absurdity of this scene makes me wonder if all of that is just flashy nonsense put together by someone with only the vaguest understanding of the field.

Not to say that I didn't like quite a few things about it. It's great to see a romantic subplot that doesn't wrap up in the end. Having Nick Fury make an appearance was also nice (Iron Man is a good way to introduce the Avengers, in my opinion). They already have the Hulk worked out, so they're well on their way...

I will totally agree with the villains being more than just a little lame, but I did indeed love the movie.
