- Kefka has some merit as being pure insanity, but that really leads to a shallow, one-note, bluntly-plotted character.
- Sephiroth had style and character design, but is overhyped and ultimately not that great of a villain in terms of how he's integrated with the game.

More importantly, it's rarely very useful. For example, in FFXII by the time you run into Magic Pots you probably have thousands of extra LP just lying around. They were useful in FFVII because they provided relatively high amounts of experience and weren't limited by Elixirs, but that just makes them a desirable random encounter.
