favorite Final Fantasy villain

Which Final Fantasy villain is the best of all time?
Note: Because I haven't played all the Final Fantasy games (I know, shame on me:shake:), I'm only posting the villains in the games I've played and then posting an other option.

Sephiroth. He was bloodthirsty, insane, and was the perfect villain.

Seymour was a pretty-boy. He was annoying and really didn't seem all that evil until the end of the game. Before that point, he seemed like a scheming little weasel.

I can't say anything about the other villains.

Man, Seymour was probably the worst main villain in the series. My favorite is Kuja, though.

None of the above, including the "other" option. I think the FF series has relatively weak villains, overall. Take two of the most popular, for example:
- Kefka has some merit as being pure insanity, but that really leads to a shallow, one-note, bluntly-plotted character.
- Sephiroth had style and character design, but is overhyped and ultimately not that great of a villain in terms of how he's integrated with the game.

Seymore is just annoying. He's sort of like Liquid Snake, only not as cool... WHY WON'T HE DIE? Well, I mean...

Seymore's purpose in the game was really to prove there wasn't a real villain. It was a lot of people trying to do the right thing that screwed everything up, with the exception of crazy seymore who was just stupid.

Love how they played the "bad guy" music when you first meet him, even though you're supposed to sort of trust him at that point.

Why, you ask? Well, A). I like his name. B). He's an evil clone of Tidus, which makes for some nice angstyness on Yuna's part. C). I thought his background storyline was interesting and fairly unique. D). He's an evil clone of TIDUS!! mwahahaha! Tidus is the big bad. *dies*

As runner up, I'd pick Vayne from FF 12. He looked like my 10th grade History teacher, and it was cool to have a villian who used politcal manipulation and stratigy to perpetruate his villiany, rather than the "lets blow up the world with a giant comet" kind of stuff from previous games ^^.

While I don't disagree with your sentiment, I think you over-simplify Kefka. Kefka is a scheming individual who is a bit more complex than simply insane. He's certainly not well-developed, as we know absolutely nothing of his past whatsoever, but we do see a large slice of his development throughout the game. What starts as a messenger turns into a war criminal and a scheming villain who plans his moves in advance. While I wouldn't argue that by the end of the game he's totally lost his marbles, I think Kefka's case is one of 'power corruption'.

If FFVI were remade today with the attention to detail given to modern RPGs, I think he'd be a perfect villain. If anything, I call Kefka 'lost potential'.

It was a pretty brief sentence, so yes, I simplified. But it's actually the simplicity that I think gives Kefka a bit of his charm. He doesn't have a whiny emo motive, or any motives at all: he is pure destructive insanity. That's an interesting character design and somewhat refreshing.

What you say about power corruption is interesting. I'm not sure I really believe it (that the game designers wrote his dialogue and scenes with this progression in mind, I mean), but I agree that if that had been developed it would definitely improve things.

I can't believe only Bobtheduck agrees with me. Magic Pots! They give you a ton of experience or AP or JP or whatever that particular game's currency is for growth! They might always want your Elixirs but that's what makes them so devious: you have to trade your precious items for more power! I'm sure there's some kind of Faustian meaning there! Seriously, guys. Magic Pots.

They might always want your Elixirs but that's what makes them so devious: you have to trade your precious items for more power!

Unless you're playing Final Fantasy VII and use the W-Item Materia to clone infinite Elixirs.

Yeah, I'm the kind of person who hoards massive amounts of items and never gets around to using most of them.
...which is why I get irritated if the game has an extremely small inventory limit(also see Golden Sun/Riviera/Yggdra Union).

As for the topic, well, I never really could take Seymour seriously. And I guess when it comes down to it, I like Kefka and Sephiroth about the same.

I'm going to say Kefka. I loved his laugh. I think he had more personality than any of the other vilains in FF Series. Most of the other vilains seemed to have a purpose to bring the world to an end, or complete non existance and that was about it. Kefka actually brought destruction to the world, changing its shape, and left me(the player) overwelmed, and wondering how I was going to fight someone with that much power. But he turned out to be easy in the last battle. Back then I was still new to rpgs.

Also, I recall using an elixer in an emergency only once in battle. I believe that was in FF5. I used it on the last person standing, and barely won the battle. Most of the time I use them for last battles though, because I know I won't be using them again after that lol.

Your point, while true, still does not undermine the fact that Magic Pots are the best villain in the entire Final Fantasy series.

I've never found Magic Pots to be all that exciting. Sure, they give you a decent bit of experience, but it's never overwhelming. More importantly, it's rarely very useful. For example, in FFXII by the time you run into Magic Pots you probably have thousands of extra LP just lying around. They were useful in FFVII because they provided relatively high amounts of experience and weren't limited by Elixirs, but that just makes them a desirable random encounter.

That's exactly what happens to me. Sometimes on the final boss I start using them, just because it doesn't matter by that point.

But really, in most FF games by the time you reach the end attacks are likely to kill you regardless of HP level, so all that really matters are spells to resurrect at full life. If there was an item that could do this (or bring back two party members at once) that might actually be used more often.

Magic Pots + Triple Growth weapons = 300-900 AP a battle.

And that's why you use Cid, because next to Cloud, he's the only character with a triple growth weapon
