Best £20 Ever Spent?

Postby Galant » Wed Apr 02, 2008 1:01 pm

I've been doing a little thinking on this myself, and thought some wider perspective might help me out. It might also prove a fun challenge in general.

The task is this - to find the best way to spend a £20 gift card for Amazon.co.uk?

This being a one off gift card, there shouldn't be too much money having to be added on top. I'm thinking that best bets are probably complete sets, or combination movie purchases. A single volume purchase would have to be exceptional.

Personally, I'd love to find something new. So I'd be curious to see what you come up with. To kick things off, here are a few I've found so far:

So far I've enjoyed Kenshin, Tokyo Godfathers, Whisper of the Heart, a few other Miyazaki films, Last Exile was decent with a disappointing ending, and Samurai 7.

So far, I've noticed GitS - SAC Season 1 (£18), Last Exile (£20), Gunslinger Girl (£18), Samurai X Deluxe Complete Collection (£20), Tokyo Godfathers (£6), Sky Blue (£6),

If anyone's interested specifically in helping me out, anime I've enjoyed are:

Anything Kenshin, Samurai 7, Last Exile was decent (ending a bit frustrating), and I saw a few episodes of SAC which I enjoyed. Saw some of Cowboy Bebop which was okay.

Movies - Whisper of the Heart, Porco Rosso, The Cat Returns, Naussica, My Neighbour Totoro was okay, Tokyo Godfathers, Grave of the Fireflies. I enjoyed the world created in Appleseed and the mech aspect was enjoyable, but frustrated by the pseudo spirituality in the Biblical quotes before and after, pointless and annoying.

Looking forward to seeing what people come up with,

God bless,
G.

For those of us who don't know the exchange rate what is the current amount in American dollars you are talking about?
That said and everything,if you are into anything military at all I would suggest trying to find YUKIKAZE.It's a 5 episode OVA in,I believe,3 volumes.

According to Google, it's $39.61 dollars.

Giant Robo OVA economy pack for a clean £11.79. Pretty slick deal.

CAA has a review for it, or you can talk to Bigsleepj or me for the details.

Really? Well, I gotta brace myself, then.

Still thinking. I'm looking at Tokyo Godfathers and Grave of the Fireflies. The Samurai X collection still draws me too, but I've been contemplating whether it's better to take a £20 gift card and use only the £20 incurring no further cost, or to put that £20 to something more expensive.

On the one hand, limiting oneself to the £20 is good discipline and you don't dip into funds. On the other, If you're later on going to buy something more expensive, then the other option allows you to save that way.

The Kenshin series appeals.

PS - While I really like a few of Miyazaki's films, I didn't really enjoy Spirited Away. Don't know if it was the spiritual element, but I wasn't taken by it. I enjoyed Porco Rosso, Whisper of the Heart, and Nausicaa more. Princess Mononoke sort of fell flat for me too.
