Fly for Fun, part 2

Postby Slater » Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:32 am

So, yeah... The other thread apparently died a few months ago. I was gonna revive it or make a thread like this one sooner, but what with the car accident and all... kinda sucked up my vacation time. Oh well, it's done and over with now.

But yeah, there's been quite a few changes to FlyFF (http://flyff.gpotato.com, for those of you who haven't played before) in the past few months. Version 9 came out, which (unlike most of the previous "versions") is actually a completely different version from V7 and its predecessors, redoing vital parts of the code that defined major aspects of the game. And now, we're in Version 10, which finally gives our level 120 players something to do.

At the same time, while there have been a lot of changes, it still remains a fun game in my opinion, and Sl0th (the new Community Manager of FlyFF) reports that the population of actively playing people is higher now than it ever was.

Speaking of the Community Manager, I was promoted to be one of the moderators for the official FlyFF forum. I've hosted a couple of "semi" official events with the help of the GM team, and have generally been having a good time. After all this time (man... nearly 18 months now!), it's still fun, but...

But I'm wondering, what happened to all the CAAers that I used to play with? I mean, if it weren't for you guys, I would never have even played this game to begin with. Many of you quit, I know, but I'm hoping that a few of you are still left in game, and it's never too late to start again.

Recently, I've been playing on the newest server, Demian. It's really fun there; like Aibatt before the Penya Hack (those who played over a year ago will know what I'm talking about). While it is officially the PK server (ie, PK everywhere except for in towns), the people are really nice there, it's easy to make a good sum of money, and there's very few overpowering equips out there anymore (Green weapons have essentially stopped dropping), so PVP is more balanced than on Aibatt or the other servers.

Anyhow, yeah... If you're still playing or plan on playing, let me know; I'm interested in knowing where my old buddies went.

(also, I hope that I don't get in trouble for making this thread since I am an official in the FlyFF community now; this wasn't made to be a shameless plug or anything)

I uh... decided to stop because it's too grind-festy. XD

I don't even play WoW much because I'm in school and all that jazz.

Minamo's still running around Aibatt server, just under the radar as of late. There's been alot of issues amongst the guild hierarchies on Aibatt lately, so until the crapshoot ends, I'll probably remain in the background.

Erm. I still pop in every once in a while, but I don't have nearly enough time to seriously focus on playing, and when I do I play Fiesta Online, where I'm already quite high up in the community (it depresses me in Flyff when I see hundreds of people much higher level than me XD)

It seems that there have been recent developments as well. The V11 beta is coming this week; the perfect way for people to get back into the game.

The beta will have 20x drop-rates and (essentially) 40x exp-rates. Having done this in the past, I can assure you that it's quite fun. Unfortunately, you actually level so fast that the money you make can't keep up with it, but... I will be working with the GMs to help keep peoples wallets full this time. A new currency is being introduced, one represented by stackable items. Using this, I'm sure that this formerly-major problem with the previous beta will be erased once we get started.

This update seems aimed at American and European players, so I hope this will bring a few more of you back into the game :D

v11 has cool stuff in it and all, but I really doubt it'll be enough to bring all the old players who quit back.

It is tempting, I'll admit, but I honestly just don't have the time. :/

I recently got a new computer and was unwittingly got hit be the ATI Radeon graphics card being incompatable.

Still waiting for a fix and playing Dream of Mirror online to pass the time but I would like to come back once the issue is resolved.
Will insert something intelligent here later... maybe

I actually uninstalled this game quite a while ago. I didn't play it because I had CoH to play. After seeing this thread I considered getting it again just to see how it's changed but I decided against it. I just don't have the time these days and I really need to focus on my school work.

EDIT: Wow, that didn't last very long. You got me curious about it and I reinstalled FlyFF just to see how the game was different now. Since I was just starting a new character I didn't get to see much but it still seems like the bad grammar, hard to read, buggy, grinding game I remember (sorry if that seems harsh). Though, that didn't keep me from getting to level 39 last time. Maybe I'm just missing out on the fun part of it. What keeps this game interesting to you Slater?

I'll be the first to tell you, Vagrancy and 1st class sucks. You really need to get promoted to second job to get a good feel for the game. You're severely restricted as a Vagrant, and as a 1st class character, you're not getting much more freedom. 2nd job is where everything really starts.

I mean, it's impossible to compare a bow Acrobat to a bow Jester, and a FS Assist can't even come close to a FS Ringmaster (I know from experience). If you're considering giving the game another shot, maybe give it a few more days until v11 comes out on Feb. 13th (Wednesday). I don't know what it'll really have to offer for low level characters, but it might have incentive enough for you to give it a go for a level 60+ character.

But it's all a matter of opinion, I suppose. Fly had enough to keep me going to level 109 (and I'm still going @.@ ) and Slater's clearly still into it. But that's my two cents on the matter.

And now everdred has me curious. How is the experience enhanced once you reach your second job? Is it the new abilities or is there something more?

I have a lvl 37 assist and a lvl 34 merc on Aibatt so I might try and get one of them up to 60 just to see what it's like.

Well, fly will always be a grind-fest. Exp progressively gets worse unless you venture into the dungeons, which have amazing exp compared to the normal monsters. There are, of course, amazing skills to get in second job. Ringmasters (my expertise) get four noteable skills:

Holycross; a de-buff that, when cast, makes the next attack against the target do double damage. Spirit Fortune; a buff that adds a nice chunk to your damage. Geburah Tiphreth; a buff that greatly increases attack speed and damage of your party members, and finally, Merkaba Hanzelrusha, the RM's aoe, which isn't really great, but it's cool to have =3=

Among other things, Blades gain the ability to wield two weapons, jesters get a 30-40% crit rate increase, and Billposters get the oh-so-broken Asalraalaikum, which I BELIEVE holds a damage record of just over 210,000.

So yes, I truly believe there IS an incentive to hit second job. And if your assist is support build, you shouldn't have a hard time getting to 60 if you party high enough above you. A merc wouldn't be bad to take to 60 either, it just might take awhile :x

If you need help leveling, give me a PM at the character Nasukkin, my RM.

CWing's not all I hoped it would be. Making 10m every 48 hours really isn't that great.

I got to like level 74 or 75 as a Blade.

I just deleted my character like a year ago. XD All I did was grind, and it was boring. =(
