Steve is gonna get a PSP

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

Steve is gonna get a PSP

Postby Stephen » Tue Jan 08, 2008 8:28 pm

So. Yeah. After the shock settles down. Suggest some good PSP games. A buddy of mine got one and after giving it a shot I kinda like it. Plus I need to get Portable Ops.

I sadly have little experiense with the PSP, but if you are a castlevania fan I hear Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles should be worth a look. FF Tactics: War of Lions is also something that you might want to try. Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow has one of the highest rateings on the PSP game collection, at least on gamespot.
Of two evils, choose neither - Charles Spurgeon.

Yeah I was thinking about checking out Syphon Filter. I used to love the old PS1 games.

FFT: War of the Lions and MGS: PO are both incredibly satisfying games. GET THEM.

Is Elite Beat Agents for the PSP, or the DS, I can't remember. Anyway, if you can get it, that's a hilariously fun game.

Yeah, it is, and it is so incredibly worth it. The grammatically correct translation is so excellent-- not to mention grammatically correct.

Some things to consider

Postby Omega Amen » Wed Jan 09, 2008 10:34 pm

First, Steve, make sure you get the newer PSP model, PSP-2000, sometimes called the PSP "Slim" or "Lite". It has a better screen, speakers, buttons/d-pad, and reduced loading times. Also, you will need a memory stick to save your game data. My recommendation is a 1GB or 2GB stick since that keeps your options open on utilizing your PSP to the fullest extent without emptying your wallet.

Since you are a big Metal Gear guy, in addition to Portable Ops, here are some other Metal Gear titles to consider.

Metal Gear Portable Ops Plus - Recently released and it is an expansion to Portable Ops, meaning more missions, characters, focused on online multiplayer combat, and an extra single-player mode. It does not add to the plot of Portable Ops.
Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2 - Although they are card games, I really enjoyed these titles since they played more like a strategy RPG than card games. Plus the cards themselves has a lot of interesting Metal Gear lore and info that hardcore Metal Gear fans would love, including occasionally playing memorable videos of past Metal Gear games when you use certain cards. These are the first card games that I actually enjoyed.

Some games from my current collection that I recommend are:
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War
Jeanne D'Arc (a solid Japanese Strategy RPG like FFT, though simpler)
Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles

Here are some games in the near future that will be released that are anticipated to be good:
Wipeout Pulse (sequel to Wipeout Pure which is one of the best PSP racing games)
Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Final Fantasy Dissidia
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Echochrome

Finally, with a good size memory stick you can download games/demos/themes/videos/wallpapers from the online PSP store: Click here

To use it, you will have to create an account (that's free) and the same network account can be used on the PS3. You will also need Windows XP/Vista to use the downloader software.

You can purchase full games for download like Beats, which takes music on your memory stick and creates a rhythm based game, or a few PS1 titles. There is also a lot of free stuff to download as well.
Find me on Steam, PlayStation Network (OmegaAmen), Backloggery, Twitter, and Twitch.tv

I am also in the Christian gaming group, Tribe of Judah in the Christian Gamers Alliance.

I hear the GOd of War game is good, Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow are a must have, that Ratchet and Clank game, perhaps Silent Hill Origins according to some (I myself am not really fond of that franchise) Definitely check out the Final Fantasy games on it.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Alright, so I got a ton of money for my birthday and thought "Gee, I've always wanted a PSP but never actually wanted to spend money on it." I'm... kind of cheap. And broke. So yeah! I got a ton of money for my birthday and I picked one up. I had almost exactly as much money as I needed down to like... five bucks. I grabbed a silver PSP and FFT: Lion War, which is fantastic!

Also, this means I can TOTALLY get Crisis Core! Booshah!

Power Stone... The best fighting game ever made. Better than Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and Brutal: Paws of Fury combined. Get it. NOW. If you like fighters, there are also Guilty Gear games on there, but honestly? Power Stone. *huggles my dead dreamcast lovingly, wishing it would get better*

There is actually an exhaustive listing and review site of PSP RPGs that covers things like Load times in addition to the standard review stuff, but I can never seem to find it when I want to link someone to it... I thought I Bookmarked it, but I have so many bookmarks... I can't seem to find it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.
